The item has a cord with a standard USB plug. You can plug this directly into an open USB port on your laptop or simply use a wall plug with a USB port. I would recommend using a laptop port if available. This item does use a standard cycling breathe effect when plugged in and receiving power. However, if plugged into your laptop or pc it will install as a device and you can use software to customize your lighting effects.
