A YouTube reviewer also said the BestBuy remote uses an IR or infra red blaster to change the channels which requires line of sight, whereas the other model has a WiFi remote that doesn’t need an unobstructed view.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Minuteman is mistaken. Both models have full local dimming. The remote is the only difference. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.reviewed.com/televisions/content/tcl-6-series-tv-review.amp
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From reviewed.com: "... the R617 models are more expensive than the R615 (Best Buy) models because of a difference in their remote controls. The R617 models cost $50 more because they include the version of the Roku remote that supports voice commands—the R615/Best Buy models do not."
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. And the price for that feature. You can use an app as a remote and to listen with headphones. You can also use a universal remote. I have a Harmony remote, therefore I don't want to pay $50 for a remote I wouldn't use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 65R615 comes with an IR remote, but responds to an RF Remote as well. (I tried a remote from a RokuTV box that supports RF (point anywhere) and it worked great, but doesn't have all the buttons I need. (I don't have the voice enabled RF remote.) A note: While RF is great, I also use a Logitech Harmony remote which is IR because it can also control my older AppleTV, Channel Master OTA DVR and Samsung Blueray player. The included TCL Remote is great and simple but if you want to control additional devices from one remote IR and a universal remote is a great way to go. It's pricey, but you can purchase the Voice Enabled RF Remote from https://tcl.encompass.com/item/11666297/TCL/06-WFZNYY-ARC580/

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The only difference is the 17 has an IR remote. Personally I'm going with the 15 from Best Buy because I use universal remotes which wouldn't work with the Wi-Fi remote to 17 uses.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In my opinion, there is a huge and important distinction between the 65R615 and the 65R617 models and it has nothing to do with the remote. The difference is that the 65R617 model has Full-Array Backlighting and Local Dimming while the 65R615 only has Edge-LED Backlighting. This is going to make a noticeable difference in the picture quality, brightness and contrast. For the small difference in money, I'd recommend going with the 65R617.
