data should stay on the drive indefinitely as long as it is taken care of & kept away from magnetic items.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is a solid state drive. So the data should stay there indefinitely. The older drives were essentially spinning wheels but even that type I have three or four that are 10 years old. I have never had one of the solid-state drives like this fail. You just have to make sure you have it formatted correctly for the computer you’re going to use it. If it’s formatted for a Mac it needs to be read by a Mac. If it’s formatted for Windows it needs to be read on a PC
