Yes you do not have to use the steam function. It is a separate button to push. I don't use the steam function all the time . so far I love the dryer and the washer

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Since the steam kit is sold as a separate item for the dryer, I did not purchase it. So, when I use my dryer, I just don't use that option since it is not hooked up to any water supply. Not having the steam feature on the dryer doesn't make any difference as far as the operation of the dryer - I just don't select that feature when I am programing a load to dry. So the answer is "Yes, you can purchase the dryer and not use the steam option." I hadn't known the steam kit was sold separately when I purchased the dryer - nobody in the store mentioned that to me. I found out when it was delivered and installed. I didn't care though since it's not a feature I would have used that much anyway. I get wonderful results w/o the steam feature and have been very happy with the dryer.
