Then I let the Alpine play...

I'm quite happy with the Alpine 7. I got it because of its large screen, lack of physical buttons, and Apple Carplay functionality. It fit perfectly into the factory slot of my Toyota Tacoma 2018 model. Best Buy installed it without issue. The unit has more features than I currently use like separate bass controls and built-in EQ. My greatest satisfaction is to be able to view and operate Waze on the face of the unit without having to have my phone produce from my dash. I installed an aftermarket wireless CarPlay receiver (about $60) that worked perfectly with the unit and I can simply hop in the car and everything connects without plugging my phone in.

My first radio I installed in my 2007 Mazda speed 6 was a android head unit and it was overall a pain in the butt. The back up camera cut out when the car was running CarPlay was buggy and it only had 2 speaker outs making it practically useless. I was very skeptical of buying a radio at this price but I’ve heard very good things from alpine. I believe this is the first 7 inch radio put in a Mazda speed 6 in Michigan just because this car isn’t mean for a aftermarket radio based on the stock one. This radio gives you literally everything you need quality rcas for multiple cameras, 4 speaker outs, usb, (etc). I did have 1 small issue with the Bluetooth mic. I bought a powerdewise mic hoping it would work but I got no sound. You can try other options but alpine gives you a mic with the unit which is solid. I was very happy with the quality of this product and the fact that my back up camera actually works now. If anyone is looking to buy this head unit remember even if it says it doesn’t fit look up dash kits and you can usually always make it work. You also have a return period with Best Buy and a 1 year warranty with Alpine making the experience that much better.

I bought this unit to replace my stock Infiniti system in my 2011 Wrangler unltd. and I could not be happier! The stereo is a perfect fit in the dash and looks like a factory unit but sounds much much better. I bought it because I hated the Uconnect phone system that was horrible sounding and unusable and i wanted to install a backup camera. I lost factory nav but gained Apple CarPlay which works better anyway. The unit is simple and easy to use but has great sound and more power. It works seamlessly with my factory powered sub and was fairly easy to adjust the bass levels to mix perfectly. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and as usual, BestBuy did an amazing job with the install. My only con if you wanna call it a con, was the extra money that it cost for the adapter plugs and install kit to make it work with my steering wheel controls and USB port (that is located on the back of the stereo) were pricier than expected. Also one annoying thing is that you cannot change any settings or switch between phones unless you stop and pull the emergency brake first. A safety feature that I would love to bypass but you cannot. For the price, $299 with fee installation and 0% interest it is the best deal hands down!

After reading some of the more negative reviews, I was a bit wary of some function loss going along with the enhancements this new head end would bring. After installation, I realized that I just needed to change a few ways I did things and the result was fantastic audio, all the functions I had before and more (I did lose the CD player which I never use). Geek Squad guy Javier even put my backup camera on screen while still leaving it and all other functions in the mirror of my 2013 Tacoma. Android Auto works flawlessly with no drops, and I credit that to purchasing a high quality transmission cable that had snug fits, depending on my phone and Alpine headend to be doing their job. Most Car Play and Android Auto failures are due to transmission problems. The radio knows when it is doing Bluetooth and when it is doing Android Auto, no issue. My wife's Car Play, no issue. The double emergency brake unlock for functions not allowed when driving is to deter bypass wire-arounds, so makes sense. I personally am not so dense as to try to use high attention demanding functions while driving, and believe trying to defeat this is scary dumb. I am quite pleased.

I find this unit to be perfect in every aspect except if your battery goes dead, it is a pain re-doing the settings. Looks amazing in my 350Z! And it really enhances the sound on my Bose speakers.

The interface of the radio works extremely well, and has no lag when changing between applications. Apple CarPlay works extremely well with the iPhone and the map and screen resolution look great. I really appreciate having the flexibility of being in control of the equalizer and extra advanced settings that I truly want the radio to have that many others don’t.

Easy to set up. Easy to use. Works good. One thing that the rear view camera resolution is not great though. And remember this unit only can connect to 4 speakers. My van has 4, perfect.

Installed this on my Jeep JK with the factory Alpine amplified system and I now have CarPlay and a much better sounding stereo. Install was fine, but some options in menus remain grayed out even after parking brake detection is working. I don’t get any audio from Siri, but audio from apps works fine. From the research I’ve had time to do so far, there may be some issue with the latest iOS updates and the firmware on the alpine. I need to look into updating the unit but will be annoyed if I have to take it out to do so.

Replaced the factory Bose system in my 2008 Porsche Cayman S. I chose this unit because of the completely flush front face, i didn’t like the other double DIN units that had a “button chin” at the bottom that ruined the flush look. The touch sensitive virtual buttons along the bottom work well, but my only complaint is that there is no forward & back track/seek buttons. There is the option for plugging in a adapter to use factory steering wheel controls, but my car is not equipped with any. I can use the on screen controls to adjust tracks, but when connected to CarPlay and using navigation, i would have to switch apps, to change songs, then switch back to the navigation app. I’m hoping iOS 13, and updated CarPlay interface will solve this problem. The other complaint is that this unit often will display that the phone connected is not recognized, or is incompatible. I have a iPhone X, running the most up to date version of iOS. I have to power cycle the radio, and power cycle the phone to get things working right again. My Hyundai Kona, with the factory Hyundai CarPlay interface has never had such problems.
