I picked up a pair of these when I found them in an open box deal. I hooked them up to my second tv with a nice Yamaha receiver and I was instantly blown away at the sound quality. Nice, bright highs, clean mid-range and nice bass without distortion (I have a woofer with a low end crossover hooked up as well). The upward blasting radiator really helps the sound open up with these speakers. They work very well for watching tv and casual music listening.

WOW! Took about a month for these to start really singing, but once they were broken in and set up properly, these made a BIG IMPROVEMENT in my listening experience. I replaced a set of Def Tech Pro Monitor 1000 speakers with these Studio Monitors. So much more depth and the midrange......spectacular! My system has really come to life with movies and stereo music. If you are in the hunt for a pair of monitors and a great price......how do they sell these at this price level?......look no further. You deserve a listen!

You couldn't ask for a better compact speaker. Speakers priced at 1k more have a hard time justifying your hard earned money spent on them, compared to these. I'm a die hard Definitive Tech fan I have a long line of their speakers. For these hit a sweet spot for me. The small footprint and full huge sound these give off is almost to good to be true. I use these as my lower rears for I can not put a full sized tower where I need these. Honestly now I wish I just bought 8 of these to have as front, front wide, sides, and lower rear. My high rears I use SR8080hd which are another phenomenal set of Definitives. I'm using 8060hd full tower fronts and playing around I took them out and put the studio 55s in place. I swear they have a better more responsive punch than the 8060hd towers. That's due to the lag from the sub signals that incorporate the towers. Don't get me wrong I love my 8060hd towers but its more of a theater sound from them not so good at music and not recommended. If heavy music is your taste either go with these studio 55s or if you need bigger for a little more go with the 65s which are killer.... heavy soundtracks and movie quality fulfillment go with the towers 8060hd or 8080hd. You can not go wrong buying the studio monitor lines. for the price there is nothing that compares. NOTHING. AND THAT'S GOING AGAINST PSB, CANTON, ELSON, B&W, M&L, KEF, & KLIPSCH

Great sound at a reasonable price! I replaced 40 year old tower speakers with these and now have a much wider dynamic range and clarity with decent bass response. A subwoofer would be a great pairing with these speakers.

There is no doubt you could get a better tower speaker for the price, but our house did not have a good place to put towers. When paired with a sub the sound is amazing for the speaker size.

I went to the store looking for a different set of speakers. But after I heard these I knew I these were the ones I wanted. Once I was in this category , I compared them to B&W in similar price range. Even though I am a fan of the British loudspeakers I referred these. I like that they can be bi-amped which I did to my Pioneer Elite SC-71. I paired it with a Definitive Technology center speaker Good times all around

Incredible sonic definition let's you hear the details of each and every instrument. Powerful, tight bass and incredible percussion. Amazingly clean mid-range provides extraordinary vocal clarity at any volume level. Produces the most pure, powerful, room-filling sound I've come across in an attractive, compact enclosure that fits neatly in any room.

These speakers offer remarkable sound. They are substantial in size (for a bookshelf speaker). The build quality is excellent and the cabinets are heavy and solid. They sound amazing out of the box and the sound quality gets noticeably better within the first 2 weeks of regular use.

We just did a makeover on our family room and this included replacing our front speakers on theater system. We also paired these up with the matching Def Tech 8040 center channel and what a great combination. I wanted something that had crisp highs and great presence. I think I got what I was after. I also wanted to get the great sound without taking up lots of space.

Wife wanted new furniture and unfortunately my floor speakers weren't past of the design. Needed something that would work well and foot in with my center channel and sub. These speakers sound great by themselves and also with my surround system. I have enjoyed music and movies as they are very good in the highs and mids. As expected the bass is lacking a bit but my sub carries that for me anyway.

Great price on some outstanding speakers in an open box demo deal. However, my only gripe was that one of the speaker grilles went missing from the time I listened to them to the time the sales associate packed them up. He simply couldn’t find it after they went in the back room...other than that a great purchase overall

These speakers replaced a pair of 30 year old Polk 10's as the front channels for our surround sound system. Obviously we were hopelessly out of date but I've always liked the Polk Audio's warm sound. We started shopping when we got a pair of Def-Tech patio speakers and loved the clarity. These have proven to be all that and more, but what is really impressive is that they have made the rest of the system sound much better because of their efficient power usage.

Nice upgrade from DT ProMonitor 1000

Got these on a crazy sale--Def Tech must be bringing out a new upgrade--that helped me step up from ProMonitor 1000s. I now have four of the 1000s out in my wood shop with a Polk sub: crazy good sound despite all the sound-bouncing garage surfaces. So as for these new Studio Monitors. Very good mid and treble, with impressive bass that has me still turning down our DT ProSub 800. This L/R set is paired with a ProCenter 2000, which does most of the work for movies and TV, but they really excel in 2.1 mode for music. Feel lucky to have picked these up for my *second* AV room, which happens to be the place that I listen to music more regularly. Still breaking them in, but very happy

Impressive Sound for a Bookshelf Speaker

These distinctive speakers look great with removable grill cloth assembly attached or removed. Sound, especially highs and mid-range, is better than what you might expect for the price and size. Some sound, mostly bass, also comes from grill covered top of speakers, so placement in a tightly enclosed shelf would not allow for optimal sound.

These are fantastic sounding speakers! Perfect for up front in your surround sound! They do need a high wattage receiver to get the most out of them or a sub.
