Great sound in a small package

This set came immaculately packaged and I had no fear of any of the items being damaged in the shipping process. More importantly the setup was a breeze and the sound is AMAZING! This set sounds way better than my previous audio equipment and is less than half the size. I really like that it has 2 optical audio inputs so I can hook up my console and pc without having to use any old analog cables. The sound-stage was clear, accurate and honest when compared to the source material that I listened to. One downside is that if you leave the clock feature on it counts as the whole unit being on so it consumes a lot of power when just being idle so I would recommend powering it off if that is a concern.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me here.

Compact Stereo, Full Bodied Sound

This shelf system is nice and compact and is quite a space saver yet it delivers a full rich round. The setup was simple enough and operation is pretty straight forward and simple. The sound can easily fill just about the largest residential room without a problem. There is slight distortion at the loudest setting but it isn't much and I have yet to find a speaker that does not distort at the highest volume. The CD/MP3 feature is nice but a bit outdated as I really don't have cd's and if i'm going to play mp3's then I would just stream it from my smartphone. I'm guessing the addition of the cd player is pretty much the equivalent to adding a record player (LP) for us older listeners.
It does come with an analog input so you can connect a record player via the analog (rca) inputs. It also has the connection for an additional subwoofer and the optical input for the addition of another component.
The bluetooth feature is really nice, it was easy to connect the cellphone and stream any audio from any streaming source. You can also connect a tablet and stream Netflix but there is a lag from the audio to video but that is the case with any bluetooth speaker streaming audio from a video.
The only down side is if you are looking for something other than a nice speaker system. This is a great space saving stereo for the garage, basement, or even outdoor space but if you are looking to make it a centerpiece to a home theater system then this is not the system for you as there is no component/hdmi connections.

Excellent Basic Micro-System

This is an outstanding little micro-system. With the COVID forced home office, I added it to my desk to enjoy some music during the work day. I have been slowly working my way through my old CD collection and am rediscovering the joy of playing a single CD. The Bluetooth streaming works well, the receiver is good and the little enclosed speakers sound outstanding for their diminutive size.
As others have noted, the unit and speakers are well-built and both surprisingly heavy for their size. The best amps from back in the day were always heavy, and that helps confirm the build quality of this little unit. In this day when we as the consumer pretty much expect nothing to work and to always be disappointed, Denon gives you some hope that at least some quality items still exist.
This is a basic unit, no network, no second set of speakers, no multi-zone. Just a good quality compact stereo for pure musical enjoyment.
Very happy with this purchase.

Terrific Sound Quality

I wanted a compact system that sounds great, and this is it. Everything about it is solid. The speakers are heavy, indicating that they are built to last, and the speaker wire connections are very secure. You can add a subwoofer and a turntable if you wish, and the included FM antenna works flawlessly even 50 miles from the source. Both rock and classical sound great!

Sound quality is very good and really like the Bluetooth feature. Thought it was a little expensive but have a large collection of CD's that I wanted to be able to listen to and was Leary of the portable players. Remote is large but it works well.

I like a good, clean sound from my speakers and headphones. This system delivers the kind of sound I like in a compact package! Although it delivers good bass response, it is not as bass heavy as many popular Skullcandy, Bose, Beats, and Sony systems. This system delivers a crisp, clear sound that I can enjoy listening to. Furthermore, the sound signature is very well balanced. I hesitated getting this system initially due to the price. However, it is well worth the money!!

This system was a gift for my teenage son, for his bedroom. Out of the box I was surprised by the full-bodied sound, considering the small speakers and the relatively low power. Even when we tested it on the table of the dining room it could play plenty loud, considering that our home has an open floor plan, with the whole lower level being essentially a 1,000sqf big room. The sound is well balanced when listening to a CD (best source), neither tinny nor dull. You can tell the difference when streaming through Bluetooth, but it is still respectable quality. When listening to the radio it looses on the low end (bass), but it can be somewhat compensated with the tone control or the bass boost using the "SBD/Tone" button on the remote.
Usability is also very good, the buttons on the front panels are few and a little small with tiny icons (and have no backlighting), but the remote is a full size remote with plenty of buttons to control everything (but still no backlighting). I have read of people complaining there is no eject button on the remote for the CD. But you need to get to the main unit to remove or replace the CD anyway, so I do not see what the big deal is :-)
The display is adequate in size, best for viewing from a few feet away. If you are on the opposite side of a large room, do not expect miracles. The display can also be dimmed in three levels, if I recall correctly.
Other nice touches:
- The radio will autoscan all stations received and fill in the memory (up to 40 preset). The name of the station can be edited.
- There are a clock, a sleep timer (90 to 0 minutes on 10 minutes steps) and alarm, to wake up with music.
- The Bluetooth can pair and remember up to 5 devices
- There are two optical inputs, an analog input and even a subwoofer output. Excellent potential for expansion.
- The speaker connectors on both the main unit and the speakers are substantial and can accept banana plugs, like those found in regular sized audio systems. No wimpy spring loaded connectors.
- The speaker wires are each about 6' long and of good gauge, not the ridiculously thin wires sometime shipped with other mini systems.
- The overall build quality is very good. I am an audio enthusiast and work with electronics. Over the years I have owned or listened and handled countless audio systems. This little thing looks and feels like is built by the same standard as the regular size systems from Denon or Marantz (which are sisters companies). The speakers too are built well and seems to employ good quality components. The fit and finish is very nice, although minimalist. Both the main unit and the speakers are also quite heavy relative to the size. That is generally a good indicator when it comes to audio gear.
- The speaker grilles can be removed and they are attached a a fraction of an inch away from the front baffle. It gives the impression that they are floating in front of the speakers, nice touch.
Now for the "I wish..."
- I wish they had not removed the USB port. It was present on the previous version, but that had not Bluetooth. Having both would have been fantastic.
- I wish the radio had at least RDS (to show on the display the song title, author, etc.) If they had included HD Radio (digital) it would have been an absolute gem. The European version has DAB, which is the Digital Audio Broadcasting standard over there, similar to HD Radio in US.
All in all, very satisfied with the purchase. Denon brag about having made several improvement to the design with the goal to increase the quality of the audio. I have not heard any of the previous versions, but in itself and compared to my main system which is worth more than five time as much, it can certainly hold its own.
We have had it only since Christmas, so we'll see how it is durability over time. Definitely recommended.

We were looking for a compact system that featured a CD player, without a typical “clock radio” format. There were several reasonably priced options but I’ve always had good experience with Denon hardware and elected this kit. Very pleased with the value and performance — exactly as expected. I’d recommend adding a small subwoofer, however, to enhance the overall sound field.

This is my review of the Denon D-M41S Personal Component System. My first impression out of the box is the weight of this little audio system. It is quite substantial given the small size. It gives the impression of extremely solid, fine construction. Set-up of the Denon system is simple, following the instructions of the Quick Set-Up Guide. The full Owner’s Manual is available for download from the Denon USA website (it also comes on disc with the unit accessories.)
Of course the most important part of an audio system is the quality of the sound that it provides and the Denon exceeds expectations here. The sound is loud and clean with no distortion or rattles. The bass response of the included speakers is good and they actually have good presence despite their small stature. (An optional subwoofer is available if you want a more floor rattling sound.) The volume of sound is more than adequate for my small apartment.
I have tested all of the features of the Denon system (read the manual, there a quite a few of them) and they all work well. Bluetooth pairing was easy and I had no problems maintaining a good signal with my phone in my pocket all around my apartment. This system even has a built in headphone amplifier setting in case you use a set of high impedance headphones. In conclusion, if you are looking for a compact audio system with quality sound, I don’t believe you need look any further than the Denon M-41S.
Note: for the purposes of full disclosure, I feel I must state that the first unit I received from Denon did not operate at all, however it was quickly replaced and the second unit that I was sent has functioned flawlessly.

I read the reviews on this Denon mini and I was not disappointed. Great little system for bedroom or smaller area. I added a 10" subwoofer from Dayton Audio and this thing now rocks excellent sound quality and volume.
The speakers included don'y disappoint either.

This system is small in size but has great sound and power. It has the ability to play CDs as well as link to my phone/iPad. The sound is clear and fabulous. I am able to get many stations, too. I love the compact size of the speakers and unit making it easy to fit in any room of the house.

Needed a small compact CD/Am/FM unit. This Denon Sytem
Fits my needs. Great Sound with a single CD player and comes with
a remote and display shows the time. The speaker cables do not plug in. They are old world wires which are inserted in a screw adjustment.

I tried to buy the product when it was on sale and I was traveling out of the United States. Immediately upon my return I went to the store and told the manager I attempted to purchase the product but was an able to while it was on sale. I paid the full price for it. I doubt I will be shopping at your store in the future.

This system fits perfect on my entertainment furniture. The sound from the bookshelf speakers is really good. The music on my 1970's CDs is amazing. Guitar chords and strumming crystal clear. Vocals sound almost like they are in the room. The remote is easy to use once you figure out all the button functions. The player unit is solid and doesn't move when I push buttons. Very solid and quality construction compared to a cheapo CD player this replaced.

The Denon Micro D System sounds amazing and if you did a blind fold test you would never assume its small size. In the box you get the CD receiver, 2 speakers, remote, batteries, antennas, power cord, quick start guide, and the owners manual. Set up was a piece of cake. Connect the speakers, power cord, antenna and you are ready to go.
The Denon system has multiple ways to play music. CD, radio, from a Bluetooth device, digital in, and others. The way I like to listen is via Bluetooth. I have all of my music library on my phone. So its very easy and convenient to stream from my Galaxy S9+ to the Denon. And using the remote you can control the system easily. And of course you can play CD's. I hadnt used CD's in quite awhile, but I am glad I kept them. Now to dust them off so I can enjoy my collection again.
Like I said in the title this compact system literally and figuratively rocks. It has amazing sound. The bass rocks when you want it to, and the overall sound is very well balanced. Great highs, mids, and lows. 30 watts doesnt sound like much. But its plenty for me. But if you want extra bass there is an output for a subwoofer.
The display is also simple and easy to read and navigate. It doesnt have so many different buttons like other systems that its intitially overwhelming. Its laid out well and takes only seconds to figure it out to fine tune the system, settings, etc. to how you want them. The remote is also nice, although a bit on the large size. But I guess that could be an advantage too, less likely for it to crawl under your couch cushions ;-). Its also simple and easy to learn.
Overall this is a great system. Perfect for someone just wanting a simple compact system that is easy to set up, with plenty of ways to listen, and excellent sound. Highly recommended.
