Would not get calls back to schedule appt

Never called me to set up the appt to set up our room. Finally, after several calls got to speak with SOMEONE!!!! Much ado to go through to get the appt set up. Told me they would call the day before and give me a smaller window of time to come and set up the whole room. Called three times the day before, only to get a recording, stating that they would call between 5 and 7, I believe. No call, called again, the recording said they would call by 8. No call, Called again at 8:55 and the recording said they would call by 9.....hmmmmm....within the next 5 minutes. No call. Finally at 9:45 I was able to get a hold of a PERSON. He states he has no record for an appt for me, but had put it on my credit card two weeks prior. Now they could not come until the following week. The reason I called two weeks ago was to get this set up because we were having a group over for the Packer game. Needless to say, I canceled the order and then he had a heck of a time to figure out how to credit my account because there was no work order available because they had no record of my appt. But, as I said they had record that my credit card was billed. Quite a nightmare.

The technicians were prompt, very friendly, did the job quickly, and very patient with me in explaining how the system worked. They also gave me their phone number to call if I had any issues or couldn't remember how to operate a piece of the equipment.

As our first smart tv, In order to get this tv as part of our entertainment center, we had to have the Geek Squad which did a great job of getting everything talking to everything else. It works great.

I love Geek Squad! The service is prompt and top quality! Ernesto deserves a raise and a promotion! ZVOX sound bar is just what we needed for our flat screen tv. It brings the voices out, and balances great.

Did not let me finish explaining problem, had to ask for manager, waited ten minutes, drove to store to complain to manager , was told he cannot do anything. Lousy customer service all around. Will never buy anything from best buy.

Geek Squad tech's, Tom and Jake were awesome.

Had BB tech, Jake, do a home theatre consulation. He was very professional and told us exactly what we needed and gave us directions on how to hook up the Pioneer AVR 1122-K. We were able to make the appropriate connections but could not make the. Zone 2 control our home speakers independently of our surround sound speakers. Had to purchase the whole room setup for $169 in order to have a tech come out and show us how to use the AVR 1122-K. BB tech, Tom, came out and helped us make the appropriate settings to control our surround sound and in home speakers. Tom was very knowledgable and helpful. He took his time and "trained" us on how to set the AVR to our system. He also assisted us with our Harmony remote. In fact, he left and I had another question, so I called his cell and he returned and showed me how to correct the issue I had. My only complaint is, all wires etc, were properly connected. All BB had to do was train us on using the equipment, yet we had to pay for the whole room theater set up. BB should have a "training" package that is not so expensive. Tom was at my house 45 - 60 minutes. That is a short time for the 169 we had to pay. But at least my system is running the way I want it to and I understand how to make programing changes.

Receiver hook up
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I paid $169 for someone to come out and just hook up a receiver. The first team that came out was very good but it turned out the receiver was bad so I had to take it back and get a new one. Since all the speakers were in the place I wanted them and the components were where I wanted them they sent just one person out next, but after 2and a half hrs he still couldn't get it hooked up right. So I asked him if he's come across where 2 of the same items where bad and he said yes a few times. Now the 2 guys that were here for the first one said that there was nothin wrong with my components or my tv, but this guy said that there must be something wrong with my inputs on my tv's hdmi even though the first 2 had instruments with them that could detect something wrong with them and said it couldn't be the tv. The guy that was here the second time kept getting calls on his phone wanting him to meet someone for lunch. So he finally said he could hook it up in a way that it would work but suggested I not mess with the settings on the eq and all the different sound presets. On top of the $169 for the installation I paid over $400 for the receiver so I could have different presets for my cable, blueray, games, and music. So now I'm stuck with a receiver that in my opinion is bad and can only listen to one preset for all of my different needs. I urge u unless u can't get to the back of ur tv and components read the instructions and hook it up yourself. Geek squad is totally useless. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is cause I believe the first 2 guys were good and knew the receiver was bad but the other guy just didn't want to admit that yet another receiver was bad.

Rating reflects store, not GS

BestBuy may want to start thinking about sending GS to Circuit City of Office Max, etc.. Many people have stopped shopping at BB just because of GS. Without going into details, (there's not nearly enough time or space on this page) here's my thoughts. I am a frequent shopper at BB. (already at about 2000 points before Feb.(And no, it's not because of 1 or 2 huge purchases, its that I prefer to send my business there instead of the other guys. In-store shopping is great. I've heard a lot of people complain about this, but maybe our local store just has better employees. I don't know. This, along with good bargins here and there, and great one on one in store help, is the HUGE upside. The HUGE downside........GS. And I mean hands down, and for many different reasons. In short, GS= mass confusion, mistakes, and so on. Basically, GS= Dell customer services, without the accents. That is all.

I bought a 55 inch tv with the full works. I paid mint for the installation with the hidden wiring of the speaker wires. Well, where shall I begin. We were told that they would call before 9pm the night before to give us a better idea do what time they would show up. No call, so I called the store at 8:55pm and told them I had no call. They gave me no explanation but said they would call in the morning at 8 am. Again no call. I called the store at 10 am and they said the guys would be here between 10:45 and 10:55am. I get a call at 10:20am from the drivers saying they would be here soon. They show up at. 11:10am. As soon as they get here one of them needs to use the bathroom. I said my teenage son just went in the shower and the other br in under construction. Well they decide to go find a bathroom and both of them drive off. Ten minutes later they pull up in front of my house. I am waiting for them to get out of the truck and was wondering why after another 10 minutes they were still sitting in the truck. So I looked out the window and they are both taking a smoke break. Guess it was hard work going to relieve themselves. I finally had to go out and said how long is my job going to take. They said it make take quite a while. Five minutes later they tell me they can't wire the speakers in the back of the room. In order to do so they would need to charge me an additional 50 dollars for each stud they had to go through. There is so much more I can say about what went wrong but let
me put it into a nutshell. Be careful what you pay for. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for them just plugging in the tv and attaching the Xbox and front speakers. I thought I asked all the right questions but I was wrong. Never again, I should have learned the first time I used the Geek Squad for my desk top computer. That is another story.
The Geek Squad is a million dollar idea and so needed, but they need to work on their customer service and communication. Hopefully they read these comments and fix the problems.

Absolute Disaster

This was one of the worst experiences I have had with Best Buy. I bought the service online and received a confirmation email that clearly stated that someone would call me within 72 hours to schedule my appointment.
After 5 days, I called the Geek Squad helpline to be told that apparently I was supposed to have called my local Best Buy to schedule the appointment (though this was not what the email instructed). I then called my local Best Buy to be shuttled back to Geek Squad, and then back to Best Buy. Finally spoke to someone in Best Buy who told me that something was weird with my order and that my best option was to cancel the order made online and deal with the local store directly.
I then called the Best Buy number and spent thirty minutes on the phone, through about 10 different people, explaining myself each time, with each person responding that they couldnt cancel my order for some reason or the other. Finally got to someone who (hopefully) cancelled it but now I have to wait 7 days for the credit to appear. I refuse to try again with this product and am really frustrated with Best Buy at the moment. This is absolutely unacceptable.
Needless to say I am NOT repurchasing or rescheduling this order - there is no way I am going through all of this again. A colossal waste of my time, it is just not worth the effort and trouble.
From some of the other reviews, it seems that I am not the only one to have this experience. Best Buy, check your online service purchase system, something is wrong with it.

"We're gonna mount the TV we brung"

I am writing this review while these two novices are handling my 5 definitive technology speakers, pioneer elite receiver and 55'' panasonic. After spending nearly 4K on equipment, I am severely disappointed with this service provided by the geek squad. After my in home consultation (which was fantastic by the way!) the guys came out to install everything last week. My "old" TV apparently was defective and they were unable to mount it. I had to buy a new TV and reschedule for today! my appointment was from 8-4 this morning. I got a call at 8 from Jonesboro arkansas? saying that they wouldn't be here until 10. They showed up at 11. Then realized that they cannot mount the TV with an in wall power extension because there is a shower on the opposite side. I mentioned returning the entire system to the store and dropping the whole thing. The agent said "whatever you want to do". I wonder if the store GM would make the same comment about losing this sale....
I settled to have them mount the new TV on the wall with all the wires dragging out the bottom of the TV. It looks decent I suppose...
I should have spent the extra money and gone with a local audio/video company to install my home theater system. What a disaster.
The boss also came to my house initially. She asked if I had an in home consultation. Thats when I knew this was going to a disaster. She had no idea about the policies, equipment, pricing. They even asked for my wifi password so they could access the internet in my home on their computer.
Overall, nice people, but I was looking for more than that to get the job done right. There is severe lack of knowledge, expertise, customer service/people skills. Nice try, geek squad.

Not worth it

I ordered this service online, which was my first mistake. I received an email stating that I would receive a phone call from the Geek Squad to scedule my appointment; 5 days later, still no phone call. When I finally called the 1-800 number, the operator told me that I had to call them to schedule the appointment (contrary to the email I received). I made the appointment for the following day and later that afternoon I was contacted by the tech to confirm my appointment. I also wanted to confirm what they were going to do. Apparently, this service does not include mounting the speakers, despite the fact that the ad says installation includes speakers. The cost to mount the speakers is an additional $50 each!! This service is essentially nothing more than pluging in your TV and connecting it to the DVD/Blue ray player, which I can do myself. There is also a disconnect between ordering online and the people on the phone because the technician who called me to confirm the appointment said I had a balance due, which I did not because they drafted the $169.99 from my account the same day I ordered. Even worse I have to wait 7-10 days for them to refund my money. Never again!

Horrible waste of money

My husband thought he would surprise me by having a "professional" link together our older receiver with the new HDTV and BluRay Player we bought. I have never seen such an amateur job. The wiring for the speakers was too short, and rather than use longer wire the technician just stretched the wire diagonally across the walls instead of following the corners and ceiling lines. It looks absolutely terrible. The front side speakers are placed right next to the front center speaker. One rear speaker is behind the couch to the side while the other one is in front on the other side. Just what does SURROUND SOUND MEAN? On top of that he hooked up the old DVD player, not the new one. I am not at all happy and this definitely ruined what my husband had hoped would be a nice surprise for me. In fact he was quite embarassed. Save your money because I guarantee you can do it better yourself!

My husband and I purchase a new smart TV from Best Buy, to replace the existing TV and system we already had (and which had been left behind by the previous owners of our house). The existing system was pretty in depth, with surround sound throughout the entire house as well as outside. These guys came out, set up the new TV, remote, and Blueray with no problem at all, were able to make sense of the tangle of wires for the existing system and got rid of what wasn't necessary any longer. They hauled away the old stuff, and also let me know about Best Buy's recycle program in which we would get gift certificates in exchange for. I could not be happier with the friendliness, expertise and timeliness of the installers and would definitely use them again. They made an existing home theater mess that was hard to use and quite frankly a pain, into something easy and convenient.

Agent came in to install my apple TV, and new Denon 1913 receiver and integrate them into my system and into my Harmony remote I'd bought from them a few years ago. The agent was a very person but the outcome blew! I only get sound from some channels, the sound from my movie rentals via iTunes is totally gone, volume varies SIGNIFICANTLY from one channel to the other, and my cable box, whereas b4 was fully integrated into the Harmony remove, now requires manually to be turned off and then back on once I power the system up so that the "Denon" sign goes away and video/cable/tv input's on the screen. Tee'd me off wicked. I can only hear the sound of the audience and not the announcers on football,...blows!! The agent told me it's the receiver's fault, for recognizing so well audio input from different sources, and the cable broadcaster's fault.

Wow. Unless you truly cannot plug your television into an outlet, do not waste your time or money on this service. While the install team was nice enough, this service simply has little to no value to even the below average tech-consumer. Despite what the "salesman" at the store promises, this is not a professional install. I do not consider screwing speakers into the wall behind the TV to constitute installing surround sound. This was a huge disappointment and I can't imagine using the Geek Squad again.
