Customers praise the DEEBOT OZMO U2 Robotic Vacuum & Mop for its excellent cleaning performance, ease of use, and quiet operation. Many appreciate its combined vacuuming and mopping capabilities and find it offers good value for the price. However, some users point to navigation inconsistencies and limitations in battery life and dustbin capacity as areas for improvement. Concerns were also raised regarding the reliability of sensors and app control.

So I do love this vacuum/mop. It works so efficiently and it’s just a joy to watch. It’s easy to clean and start up. Super self efficient.
However, I think it scuffed my floors. The wood floors in my apartment have a plastic varnish and in one corner they’re now all scratched up. I can’t think of anything else that would have done that. So that’s super disappointing.

This is our second robotic vacuum and coincidentally, both are from Ecovac. We also own DEEBOT N79SE that we got about 2 years ago. We have been using that one almost everyday and are used to its functionality. So using DEEBOT OZMO U2 wasn't challenging. There are few differences between this and the older one but main is it's mopping functionality. The older one is just a vacuum but U2 can mop as well. That was something new to us. Other difference is that U2 lacks a dedicated remote control. Our older vacuum came with one. But that is not an issue for us as we barely used it (3 or 4 times max in 2 years). The mobile app does what the remote can do. I received U2 little more than a week ago and have been using it since that day. We are impressed with the way it works. It does job for you automatically when you are feeling lazy. And on top of that, it will automatically charge itself when it's about to run out of battery.
First of all, let's see what comes in the box:
1) The ECOVACS Robotics DEEBOT U2
2) Four round brushes (of which two are extras)
3) An extra filter
4) Mopping plate
5) Disposable mopping pads
6) Charger and cable
7) Brush for cleaning the vacuum and round brushes
8) Owner's Manual
Setting it up was really easy. I didn't know Ecovacs launched a new app. The vacuum had a QR code sticker glued on top of it. All I had to do was scan it with my phone which lead me to their app page on Apple's App Store. I downloaded the new app, added my new vacuum and that's it. I already had an account with Ecovacs, so didn't have to create one. Ecovacs instructs users to charge the vacuum for at least 4 hours before first use which we did and gave it a try. It has been doing a decent job but again does about 80%, not complete which is okay for the excellent price. It can be connected with your wifi but only with the 2.4 GHz not with 5 GHz. Just like the older one, it can be connected with Google home or Amazon Alexa. We own both, so I set it up with both. Honestly, setting up with google was way easier than Alexa because in Alexa, you have to add a skill and follow few other steps that is kind of unnecessary IMO.
It does an awesome job of vacuuming on both carpet and hard surface floors. We have a two story house with hard floor downstairs all over except one den room that has carpet. We turned on the vacuum and let it do it's business. It did a pretty good job on hard floor, much better than carpet which was expected per our experience with older vacuum. We then tried the mopping functionality. Ecovacs recommends only water has mopping liquid. We normally use actual mopping solution just because my wife is a big germaphobe. So it was kind of a let down but still we gave it a try with just water. It did what it was designed for but don't expect it to replace your conventional mop. Also, I found it really hard to take the vacuum plate off of the vacuum. I felt like I'm going to break the plate tabs that go inside the base of the vacuum. And you HAVE TO take the plate off in order to charge the vacuum. Vacuum itself is not very loud. Other added feature is the voice prompt which our older vacuum doesn't have. I've attached pic of both new and old vacuum side by side for comparison.
It's a good product overall with few minor issues but for the price, I would definitely recommend it.

I don’t recommend this brand. We bought one last year not even a year ago and we exchanged it as a piece in the brush broke. We got another one 2 months ago and same thing broke!! Pics attached so you know what I’m talking about. I don’t want to keep paying the warranty for it to break in 2 months again!!! Try another brand! Liked it when it worked but not worth the money if it'll break quick.

Far from The Jetsons’ “Rosie”

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Being a lazy house cleaner, I’ve been longing for an intelligent auto-clean bot, hence following this category of robotic vacuum cleaners for a few years now.
[TL;DR let me cut through the chase, … I regret to inform you, … we’re much closer, … but not quite there yet. The Jetsons’ “Rosie” remains the holy grail ]
Having owned a couple of these robot vacuums in the past, I had high hopes the recent technological advances in technology would yield a true replacement to traditional handheld plug-in vacuums.
I break them into two categories, smart and dumb vacuums. Unfortunately, I’d place this one in the latter category, despite being a definite upgrade from our previous 2017 dumb robovac (pic silver).
Competing smart vacuums today are equipped with LIDAR systems (laser echo-location so to speak) emitting a beam, and measuring the feedback loop. Benefits being they mostly avoid bumping into floor-standing obstacles, like guitars and corner lamps. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for Ozmo.
Other smart robovacs may employ ceiling mapping cameras to learn your house, and navigate its cleaning route, while others utilize smart AI algorithms, and many offer pre-defined Clean vs. Restricted / Avoid areas (keeping it away from stairs and narrow spaces it’s been known to get stuck, etc).
While the Ozmo U2 offers app integration to modulate cleaning modes, (general path, corner scrub, etc). I was unable to detect a plethora of intelligence in its routing algorithm. This unit repeats the same areas while neglecting others.
e.g. A> I have counted 6 times (and counting), <make that 8x now just ten minutes later>, that this unit seems magnetically possessed bumpering between a guitar amp and tower stereo speaker.
e.g. B> Ozmo cleaned an area in our kitchen, moved to the next area (though got caught under a cabinet easily dislodged by a nudge), then returned to the area it just completed, before getting stuck under the same cabinet at same exact point (rug in front of kitchen sink minimizes height.
Having said that, the app is incredibly helpful, and obviates the need for a handheld remote control, with many features worthy of exploration.
DISCLAIMER : the following supposition has NOT been authenticated. It is merely this reviewer’s observation and nothing more.
————
Initial setup for me proved problematic, as trying to register the vac in the Ecovacs app was unsuccessful and required a call to a very capable and attentive support rep.
Ozmo U2 has a QR code to scan, but would not add the vac to the app.
The problem was iOS 14 beta on iPhone 11 Pro Max, presumably to be fixed.
Using my wife’s iPhone 8 (iOS 13) setup was more straight forward, as long as you don’t mind “FORGETTING YOUR WI-FI PASSWORD, and RE-TYPING IT INTO THE ECOVACS APP”. Sorry: it’s probably benign, but I get a bit wary sharing sensitive data foreign or domestic.
Requirements included Location Services, and suspiciously “Forgetting your WiFi Network”, and typing your router password directly into the app.
I’m probably overly paranoid, but admit heightened privacy concerns when supplying sensitive information like Exact Location, house plan maps (some models) and Wi-Fi Passwords.
*** I suggest you use Guest WI-FI account credentials ***, with limited access to the devices on your network.
As a professional reviewer I did NOT let these qualms influence this review in the least.
PROS
————
+ Voice feedback
+ App Locate Deebot
+ Do Not Disturb mode
+ Programmable Cleaning schedules
+ obstacle detection quickly disengages vs forging ahead
+ seemingly excellent battery life (3x alternate version)
+ Ecovacs Magnetic Boundary (tape off problem areas)
+ easy setup (save for iOS 14 beta bug that prevents registering it)
+ Customer Support very responsive and help, with excellent follow-up
+ ability to clean areas traditional vacuums seldom do (under sofas and beds)
CONS
————
-WiFi password collection heightens my privacy concerns
-certain areas repeatedly draw Ozmo like a magnet
-random cleaning patterns minimize confidence
-manually collection bin empty (other models use repository)
-collection bin could be much larger, accumulates quickly
-too much prep work : forced-air vent covers, phone chargers, plugs, cables, cat toys, etc.
CONCLUSION
————————-
An an entry-level robot vacuum, this model provides a tremendous level of value, and likely serves many customers needs, however some may claim my standards are unrealistically high.
While this ECOVACS Deebot Ozmo U2 unit is a big upgrade from previous models I’ve owned, I feel that applying the money you’d spend on this unit, towards a more feature-rich upper-tier model ( Ozmo T8 AIVI, or other), would likely resolve the drawbacks I encountered, and prove to be a wise investment.
It is for this reason that I DO NOT recommend this product to a friend.

The Deebot OZMO U2 has the ability to vacuum your carpets and mop your tile floors all in one unit. This is extremely useful to me as I never seem to have enough time in the day to keep picking up after my 2 little girls and 2 dogs. Luckily, the dogs do not shed so I do not need to worry about the rather small dust bin (400ml) getting full of dog hair. There is a XL dust bin accessory that is available if you do have dogs that shed that can hold a lot more, but this unit has a 300ml water reservoir for the mopping feature. I found this design to be very cleaver. The small dust bin is nestled inside the larger water bin and this allows the U2 to do both functions. Run time has been around the advertised time of 110 minutes or so, when I turn up the section to Max or Max+, then the run time is affected by about 15 to 20 minutes. Deebot U2 has three modes of cleaning and they are Spot, Edge, and Auto. Auto mode is a random pattern while vacuuming and a back and forth mode while mopping, this is activated by installing the mop attachment. Edge cleaning will take your little robot for a tour around the edges of the house and the last mode is spot mode which will have your robot circling around for 2 minutes in the area of your choosing.
Now let’s talk of performance. The vacuum has three suction modes, standard, Max and Max+. As I mentioned before using the Max and Max+ modes will lower the run time, but it will pick up more debris. I was satisfied with the amount of dust and dirt in the dust bin on standard mode and I think this is the mode that I will use the most. The noise of the vacuum in this mode is just a little loud for TV when it is close to you, but any distance away, it does not seem that loud. Max and Max+ modes will also increase the noise. Mopping has been a great feature. The robot has been great with reaching nearly every area in my kitchen in a systematic back and forth pattern, but in vacuum mode it goes in a random pattern. I have some magnetic boundary strips that keep the OZMO U2 just in the kitchen area. Object avoidance is good with this robot as well. I have many obstacles in my house between three big rooms, dining room, family room, and living/kids room with tons of toys in it and the U2 will only get stuck on small items, but it is recommended that you pick them up before running it anyways. I am a bit disappointed in the lack of a mapping feature but at this price point I cannot complain too much. It does offer a lot in the fact that you can use this to mop and vacuum and it does a good job at both of those.
Pros:
Price
Vacuum/mop feature
suction modes
noise level
voice prompts
easy to set up in the app
Cons:
small dust bin included
lack of mapping
random vacuum pattern

Nice Entry Level (with no pets)

DEEBOT U2
Ecovac
This is my first robot vacuum and so far, I am pretty impressed with the concept.
Its movements are random for the most part, but leaving it run for a
while really does get the carpets clean. You can set it to a more uniform cleaning pattern for hard surfaces which is nice. The noise level is not bad at all.
We have two dogs and the dust bin compartment fills up very quickly.
That being said, I think that if I ran this every day, that would not be the case. Most of our cleaning surfaces is carpet as well. We will be going to hard wood. I look forward to seeing how it works on that.
If you have animals like us though, I highly recommend the optional XL container though.
I would also prefer the vacuum give you some indication of when it is full.
It is a both a PRO and CON that this robot is so flat it can fit under
almost anything. I am finding myself putting blankets near cords and
pillows on the floor around my bed so that it does not get stuck.
I see there is an option to purchase and place magnetic tape around the areas you don’t want the vac to go. I think we need to go this route. (Plan on spending over $1+per foot for that tape.)
Amazon Alexa works for my simple test of telling it to start cleaning and return to charging dock.
I am not a fan of emptying the container. You must take out the main container, then lift out the dirt chamber,
open it, remove the filter that doesn't seem to want to move..no lift tab, and then dump,
then place the filter back in and close it. Filter tends to not go in level easily. Just a lot of steps to complete to empty a dust bin.
The return to base only appears to work if the unit starts from the base. Once you pick it up (to let’s say empty it) it seems to lose track of where the base is.
This is a nice entry level robotic vacuum for floor layouts free from a lot of obstacles or you invest in the boundary tape.
Personally, I feel I spend more time emptying and babysitting than it is worth. Wife likes it as a helper.
I believe the next model up has SmartNavi 3.0 system which provides more enhanced navigation technology and gives you the ability to set virtual walls and some units even have auto emptying. Probably a better fit for our needs.
If you DO NOT have animals, I would recommend this unit, but if you have dogs or cats, I would take a look at the T8 line, but plan on spending a bit more.

Thank you for your review. The DEEBOT U2 has a large 400mL capacity but can get filled over time. Especially when cleaning for the first time, many people are surprised by how much the DEEBOT picks up. Once a regular cleaning routine is established, the dustbin can get through cleanings without getting too full. After a few uses you can determine the best frequency for cleaning without needing to empty the dustbin in the middle of cleaning. Should you have any questions or other comments, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.

Great Vacuum and Time Saver

I have been up in the air when it comes to robot vacuums but had a friend tell me nothing but good things about one they picked up. When I saw the EcoVacs Deebot Ozmo U2 I decided to take a chance and try it out.
We have two dogs here, one on the bigger side who sheds like crazy. I knew this vacuum would be put to the test and didn’t expect much.
Setup via my IOS device was super simple and no complaints there.
As for use, this vacuum far exceeded any expectations I had. I was almost embarrassed seeing how much dog hair it picked up considering I vacuumed with my full size yesterday.
Also used to to do a quick mop job and at this point I realize this will be my primary vacuum going forward.
Only issue one may run into is if you have any loose wires or string on the ground, it will catch it and get tangled. If you read the instruction book it does state to make sure there is nothing like that on the ground. I learned the hard way but on the flip side, when the unit does get tangled, it stops and sends you notification to alert you to undo the tangle.
I’m a big believer at this point and wish I found this vacuum sooner considering all the time it will save me going forward. Have a schedule set at this point so now I’ll just let it do it’s thing and I will only worry about cleaning out the collection bin.
This is a must have for anyone who wants to keep a tidy place but is limited on time or simply someone who wants one less chore to worry about. Excellent vacuum and I highly recommend it.

We hadn't owned a robot vacuum before so I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that this one was a good first choice. There are a few things we don't like about it. First, it gets lost on occasion when it is trying to find the charging dock. Today I found it in the bedroom closet about an hour after it said it was going to the dock to charge because the battery was low. Otherwise, it can get stuck on cords like any other vacuum. It is pretty good as far as not pushing against things like the dog's water bowl. It does a great job of vacuuming overall. We haven't tried it in the mopping mode because we're not sure how it will handle the rug we have in the living room. It was hard to get it to connect to the wifi, but once connected it hasn't disconnected from it.

Had purchased one some years back and really like it so i upgraded to this one. It has great suction, the mopping is good for touchups to your usual mop routine. Depending on your size home or space, i would monitor it in mop mode so you can add more water if it's a large area. My vac hasn't quite figured out my home so it makes it back to thr base about 3/4 of thr time. Also be aware that if you have small tables like a tv dinner table up, be ready for whatever is on it to end up on thr ground. It also wrestles cords (glass lampshade R.I.P.) so get all of those up and away from becoming tangled. All in all i would invest in this again!

I like this vacuum robot cleaner, I bought it primarily for vacuuming but the mopping is nice addition too. It seems to clean well and leave no spot untouched. The quality of the vacuuming is good. The mopping feature is okay, it doesn’t detect carpet so it’ll mop everywhere. You can not add cleaning solution to it, you can only use water, so basically you’re only getting rid of dust. One of the cleaning modes doesn’t efficiently clean. Overall, this is a good product with an affordable price.
