I had a few hesitations purchasing this device at first looking through online reviews and what not, and was mainly deciding between this device and the Fitbit Charge 3 that released around the same time. I didn't care much about the GPS factor as I almost always have my phone on me and the Garmin Connect app connects to Strava, which maps your runs anyways.
Where this device really shines is that it is a fitness tracker. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less, but it does a very good job at doing just that, being a fitness tracker. It's extremely slim form factor makes it easy to forget that you even have it on. The battery life is awesome as well (I have yet to get close to empty, but I do take it off daily [not always] when I shower) and I've had this product for almost a month now! So A+ for design and battery life so far.
In term's of usefulness, accuracy and metrics. This device comes with all the advanced sensors except for GPS as mentioned above, which may be a deal breaker for some. In terms of tracking heart rate, it has proven to be very accurate so far for myself though I've read certain variations if doing overhead activities (which makes sense because the blood is flowing away from your extremities here...) and something that I find acceptable. The HR tracker is all-day and I haven't looked for a way to turn it off, since I like continuous readings. This device can also be configured to detect when you are exercising based on your heart rate zones, which are automatically set based on your body dimensions and changed as your work out.
This device also tracks your sleep extremely well and one of the most awesome features is the "Body Battery" tracker, which uses various data points to determine if you are exhausting your body and should rest/refuel, or if you have enough energy and are good to go. I have found this to be extremely accurate across various situations.
Similarly to Fitbit, the Vivosmart 4 also checks your sp0(2) levels, or oxygen saturation levels. Many people might not care, but fitness junkies (and well, everyone) should, as it is a indicator of how efficient the cardiovascular and respiratory system are working.
In summary, I love this device. I was choosing between this and the Fitbit Charge 3 as mentioned, but saw many and personally seen too much variation in HR readings from Fitbit devices. If HR cannot be accurately measured, it would alter all the other "metrics" that Fitbit claims to be accurately calculating. The Vivosmart 4 wins with being a pure fitness tracker (I rarely look at it or interact with it, which I think is the point), form factor, and overall price.

I am a non-techie who's well over 50. I reluctantly gave up my fit bit zip because it didn't support my new Samsung smartphone. In addition to step tracking, I wanted to see heart rate and was intrigued with the sleep and stress functions and hoped to have an alarm function for when I was travelling. I looked at lots of options and decided on the vivosmart 4.
I have used it now for just over a month, tracking everything from dog walks to a strenuous hike up 2500+ feet elevation to a NH mountain top and down again. The step tracking is great, the heartrate tracking and stair flight counts pretty good, the sleep stuff interesting, and the other functionalities not of much value to me.
T really like the multiple day battery charge and the waterproof design (including swims in the ocean surf). Some of the icons have taken some time to understand.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase and don't find the quick recharging required every few days to be much hassle (my concern, coming from the several month long battery life Fit Bit Zip).

The sleep tracking is fantastic! Love the O2 tracking and the details provided by the pulse sensor, use the “body battery”to better understand when I’m tired and stressed. Helps be recognize when I should be taking it easy or working on getting a better nights sleep. Supper sleek design and battery lasts 5+ days, small profile works great on wrist with dress shirts. Only two down sides are that the vibration for smart alerts is weak and clearing them on your wrist doeasn’t clear them on your phone.
Highly recommend!

I purchased this the desire to track my HR while I exercised as well as to see how my body reacted while sleeping. Great product for the beginners and or not "serious" athletes.
Battery Life 4/5 - Lasts around 3-4 days depending on my activity.
GPS 3/5 - Didn't run into any issues at initial set up, relatively quick to connect/sync with my phone. At times given the weather or maybe even my phone it takes a minute to connect so I'll say it's good for it not having internal GPS.
Interface/Software 4/5 - Very intuitive and easy to navigate, has all the basics you would need plus some cool detailed figures once you begin to explore.
Price 4/5 - In the league that you would put this in it's not the cheapest but for overall for what you get and the name behind it i would give it a good bang for buck at retail price.

Forego all the special watch functions and just keep track of your health and activity. The companion application is easy to use and provides plenty of information regarding the activity and general health. Paired with a battery that can last upwards of a week, you will find yourself quite pleased with the vivosmart 4. Primarily, I used this for tracking swimming which I would definitely not trust some of the more expensive activity trackers. During all my activities I found that it tracked my activity rather accurately whether it be step counts or just 'activity time'.
I went with the vivosmart because I found it to be unobtrusive and sleek. I didn't want anything bulky and for it just be there. So far, I haven't had any real issues with the device or the syncing between the band and the software.

I previously had a Garmin soft strap for my HR workouts and it worked great. The vivosmart 4 does all that and more. Even solves some issues, like no more stinky strap. I wanted it specifically for the pulse ox features, but my issue is its only setup to run at night while you sleep and not during your workout. It's geared for people with sleep apnea, not people trying to optimize Sprint efforts.
I like the body battery feature and it's amazingly accurate. Recently got a bad virus and the battery closely matches how I felt over the week.
It buzzes a lot with notifications that dont matter to me, not that they stay up long enough for me to see.
It does broadcast ANT+. But it won't do anything else while broadcasting.
The battery does last a week and charges in 2 hours or less.
Heart rate seem pretty close to what I got with my strap.

This unit worked well. It had good battery life and I liked the fact that it has pulsox, a feature that is lacking in most competing products. The main reasons I bought this were (1) to be able to track heart rate during exercise and rest and (2) to track sleep patterns. I especially like the ability to see reports on heart rate and oxygen levels during sleep. Ultimately I returned it because the screen was too small for me to read easily and I wanted to try something with a few more features, like text message and email notification. Since then I have tried a fitbit versa and an apple watch 4 but neither is as good for sleep tracking.

I previously had a large FitBit that really irritated my arm. I would get deep tendon pain in my arm and elbow after I wore it for more than an hour or so. I researched that issue (which is more common that you'd think) and found a fitness tracker with the ability to turn off Bluetooth and ended up at this Garmin. I love it so much! It's slim and fits my small wrist perfect (I ordered the S/M size). I've turned off the Bluetooth AND the heart rate monitor (which turns off the flashing light) and I've been wearing it almost a week now and no pain! I do turn Bluetooth on at night right before I go to bed to sync it with my phone and update the app, then I turn Bluetooth back off (I don't wear it while I'm sleeping). The battery is great - I haven't had to charge it yet (got it Monday, today is Friday)! I couldn't be happier with this little fitness tracker!

I was looking for a tracker that would track my heart rate, steps, sleep and calories and this one does that perfectly. My only disappointment is that it sometimes does not want to connect to my Pixel 3a after coming off the charger. I have to re-sync it to get it to work. But that could be my phone, since the Pixel is not as compatible as maybe an iPhone or Samsung. All in all, I would recommend it to my friends and family.

I was using the vivofit 2, so this is a technology upgrade for me. After using this a couple of weeks, I have found that it meets my needs. I purchased it for the heart rate as well as partially waterproof quality because I like to keep it on when I shower. It takes some adjusting to get used to navigating the widgets, but overall I am satisfied with the tracker.

I have resisted getting any kind of fitness tracker for a long time despite the fact that I am a cyclist and runner, as well as have an active job. But I finally decided I wanted a heart rate monitor for training sessions. The VivoSmart 4 was such a goo price that I got it instead of a simple HR monitor, and I am so glad I did. It linked easily to my phone, and gives me more information than I expected, and I haven't even used it to its full potential yet. I was concerned about comfort, since I don't like the feel of watches or jewelry on my wrist, but it is surprisingly comfortable. I like the streamlined look and feel. Very nice!

Bought these due to the small size and price and I did not regret it. Despite having bought the small/medium vs the large it fit quite well, the phone app really give a lot of easy to read and understand categories with Rich colors. The battery is really insane at a 5 to 7 day max all depending if I'm using the raise to turn on feature or not. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some kind of half watch half health tracker. Not a great looker as a fancy watch like others and it is limited to certain things that other bigger trackers use like Fitbit but you won't go wrong with this by, I wound recommend...

I bought this to replace a vivosmart 3 that the buckle broke on. I like the smaller size of this one. I was worried it would be harder to read, but is actually clearer and brighter than the 3. The distance calculation is off a little, I have not tried to see if I can adjust. I am also not sure on accuracy of the heart rate monitor. Battery life is very good.

I had been a Fitbit user for years, but became frustrated with how they dropped support for linking multiple trackers to a single account.
I decided to give this a go, and have been very happy. It is easy to setup, comfortable on the wrist, and the integration with Apple Health is a nice bonus.
Some of the features like the "Body Battery" can be a bit confusing for someone coming from a different ecosystem. This is a product where I definitely was looking certain functions up in the manual. However, I learned the specifics fairly quickly.
My only complaints would be that sometimes the screen isn't as responsive to taps and that it isn't as good at auto-recognizing workouts as my Fitbit. However, I definitely am happy I made the switch.

This is a great activity tracker, so if that is what you want on your wrist, this is highly recommended. One big positive surprise - it has a built in SPo2 sensor that you can use to do on-demand SPo2 readings. It has CONNECTED GPS, which certainly works well, but I do appreciate the on-board GPS of the full sized Garmin units. It is small, so be aware that navigating the tiny touch screen takes some getting used to, and the screen is black and white only, which is fine with me as it is very easy to see even in direct sunlight. The Garmin phone application is the best in the business as far as I am concerned, and this unit gives you access to all the major features of their ecosystem in a small but powerful unit. So if all you want is solid activity tracking, this is a great option. If you want more smartwatch features or a color screen then you should look elsewhere.

I upgraded when my previous Garmin had bluetooth problems. The vivosmart 4 has more information available in an easy to access manner, is smaller and lighter than the old one. It's c omfortable to wear and looks more like a bracelet than a tracker.
Only downside, I don't like having to charge it on the laptop, I liked the battery life better.
