This is my first foray into a gaming laptop and doubly so with Intel and Nvidia. I've always been an AMD guy but the value proposition with this laptop coupled with DLSS and ray tracing made it an enticing purchase for me. I bought this so I could continue to game on the go without having to bring my Xbox with me, potentially a monitor, and all the extra cables and frustration of hotel TV's and their lack of input switching. With Xbox's play anywhere initiative gaming is so accessible allowing cross save/progression on PC and Xbox.
Initially I thought I made a less than ideal purchase due to the factory settings being set for battery life vs gaming performance. After some tweaking, updates, a handful of restarts, and some Google searches to figure out how to maximize performance HOLY MOLY, this thing is a beast.
The built in cooling system is fantastic. Keeps the temps in the 60°c range after hours of play at max settings.
The monitor is just ok. The 144hz is great but I'm used to 4k OLED on my desktop and Xbox so it seems a little flat. I'm also used to vrr so the minor screen tearing I noticed was definitely more noticeable than I'm used to.
The included power brick is manageable. It's not too big but also doesn't provide enough power for those longer/heavier gaming sessions. I noticed after playing for a couple hours that the battery on the laptop was less than 100% despite being plugged in. The first time it was down to 90% and the second time it was down to 93% The laptop draws power from both the brick and batteries to power everything during intense gaming sessions. Not an issue for me since I've set this thing up to be a gaming powerhouse.
All in all I'd highly recommend this laptop. PC gaming is a tinkerer's hobby and expect nothing less if you'd like to get max performance out of this guy. I haven't really tested battery life in general because that's not why I bought it. I intend to stay plugged in while I use it. I actually canceled my steam deck pre-order because after weighing all the pros and cons, this made more sense.

I bought this laptop on 12/07/2021 and since then it has been nothing but crash it crashes when i', playing a game, watching a video or just surfing the net?
I'm lost at what to do should i return it seek help from best buy.
The error that keeps happening is
machine check exception cache hierarchy error
whea-logger 18
Windows 11 is update to date and i used a 3rd party driver updater to update all the drivers.
I'm lost at what to do i just don't understand how a brand new laptop from the factory can have such a critical error.
I don't wanna score it low since its a great laptop but what should i do.

I got this thinking it was an amazing deal when on sale for the specs. It was but thats where it ended. The trackpad froze endlessly which is a massive hardware problem according to the reddit page on these. The omen software is pretty poor and not very good controls the only one worse ive seen is the acer nitrosense. Dont even think about trying to use this as an actual laptop because it only lasts 2 hours max on the lowest settings possible just browsing internet with nothing else going on its actually insane! My screen had terrible backlight bleed (see photo) and it blue screened on me several times before i finally gave up trying to fix issues and just returned it. Look into the poor reviews and known issues for the model before you also make a mistake.

Just getting this at a replacement for the Legion Slim 7, obviously not quite at thin or portable but seems light and portable enough for 16.1 inches (16:9 aspect ratio) gaming laptop, not too bulky power brick. On sale for $1200 you get an Intel i7 11th gen, RTX 3060 (high wattage version)
Screen: color accurate, matte, 300 nits - average, 350 nits would be a lot better (the unit I got come with a stuck pixel, fortunately was able to fix this, will need to see if it comes back, possibly exchange for a non-defective unit)
Thermal: fan constantly switch on when necessary to deliver good gaming performance, no throttle (i.e Halo Infinite, high quality setting), lot of room for airflow
Port: gsync not working over usc/thunderbolt and HDMI display output. Possible need to use mini-DP to DP cable to get this to work
Upgradability: very good, 2 RAM slots, 2 mvne SSD 2280, Wifi/Bt card. Bottom cover is very easy to get to, remove all visible screws and gently prying-off starting at the comer (close to exhaust area)
Battery: haven't got enough time to test this out yet, but considering Intel + high wattage RTX 3060, suspect won't be good compared to Ryzen version
RGB Keyboard + decent-size Trackpad: good for everyday use, tactile feedback, and responsive
Chassis: average, plastic top, metal frame, keyboard deck

This is an excellent value at $1200.
From what I’ve read this has the higher wattage 3060 and this easily maxes games out at 1080p. I’m reasonably confident this would have no issues at 1440p if it only had a higher resolution screen.
I took a star off because the screen does have backlight bleed in some of the corners and a stuck pixel near the center of the screen. I know this drives plenty of people nuts and I used to be extremely bothered but it’s a laptop screen. It’s in the plastic bezel tight and the pixel is so small that you really don’t see it in games even when it’s dark on screen. These are typically pretty easy to replace anyway and relatively cheap. If you don’t mess with your computers I would expect some disappointment.
I tried Dells equivalent model of this configuration and this HP has a better cooler design and software to manage it. It does in fact run cooler. I always repaste my laptops and the cooler also come out significantly easier. After the repaste the CPU that runs hottest has gone from upper 70c/low 80c to high 60c to mid 70c. The GPU temp is typically excellent and overall gaming temps with Omen in performance mode is low to mid 70s average. This down from low to mid 80s (which is better than most laptops running games at max.
I was extremely pleased because the Dell machines in comparison barely keep it in the low 80s and repairing sometimes makes it even worse. I don’t know what Dell is doing on the G series laptops anymore. This is better if you’re willing to take a gamble in the screen.
This is much improved from HPs older gaming laptops. I tried one 3 years ago and it was garbage. This really checks all the box. Latest gen processor, high wattage gpu, 3200mhz 16mb memory. Decent drive, swapped my 1TB in. Supports Gen4 Nvmes. And a 144hz screen with decent color.
The form factor for a 16 inch screen and build quality is all very good. The back panel comes off as a single piece and hardware changes are easy.
Considering how good the cooling is, I don’t think another $1200 pc is better. If you can find this in stock it’s really worth the try.
One last note, the keyboard lighting is in sections, not on a by key basis. There are a left non letters, wasd, mid letters, right non letters lighting section. It still looks cool but worth noting if you want to customize explicit keys as you can’t.
You can disable hybrid graphics as well and great that this has an HDMI 2.1 port.
I do not have any expectations for battery life on gaming laptops. With hybrid graphics it seems like you can get maybe 4 hours? I’m really guessing because I lost 20% browsing temporarily unplugged. I would think it can get better but that isn’t something that matters to me.

I Bought this because Best Buys' system doesn't seem to keep track of what products that have and I always get told by the store that they don't have it after I've set it up for p/u online. As far as this laptop, For the price I've been very impressed. The screen while only 1920x1080 is great for movies and games alike. Other than resolution I have nothing bad to say about it. The keyboard is very nice but I would rather a number pad and not dedicated keys to a calculator and the omen center but typing on it is a pleasure compared to other laptops i've had. The fan can get loud and the system does peak to 80-90c when playing on high settings in most games like cold war or elden ring. It plays both very well but does get very hot. The speakers are very crisp with decent mids but not much else. Gaming it is great as they are loud enough to hear over the fans. I ended up adding a 2tb NVMe drive as a game storage drive and it works just fine. Battery life for just web browsing is about average of 3-4 hours. Gaming 1-2 hours depending on the game. if your trying to save batter life I'd watch out for that omen software as it will run your dedicated gpu all the time in the background. For the price and features I would choose this one again.

This laptop checks the boxes I need for a gaming laptop. For the price of 1100 you cant find a better deal for a RTX3060. i checked my gpu and this 3060 is the 100 to 115w model which is great considering so many other laptops with 3060s are tue 80 to 95w models. Hp does a decent job for the unboxing experience, cosmetically the laptop is sleek non finger print material, has the ports i need, pretty decent build quality. The screen isnt to bad i was worried a 300 nit screen wouldnt be bright enough for gaming compared to some other laptops that have over 500 nit screen but this HP looks great gaming. The hinges are okay not the best and the screen has some screen wobble but i plan on being careful. Keyboard is decent but Asus and MSI laptops have better keyboards. Comparing the other 3060 laptops that are in the 1500 to 1700 price range you will notice some differences but for the price you cant go wrong. This laptop slaps for gaming is alittle warm but every gaming laptop gets hot. The HP gaming software is pretty nice too easy to use. I would recommend this.

Excellent laptop and handles almost all my games at the highest settings. Is fairly heavy put still usable as a daily workhorse and then a gaming pc when you need it. Have loved having it on hand for work, school, and games when I have the time. The screen is bright and vivid and the customizable keyboard lighting is a very nice touch.

Great laptop. Fast speed. Excellent graphics, love keyboard touch and lights. I’m not gamer. Have hobbies which require higher end electronics. Initially experienced issue with speakers crackling. Called HP Support, worked to resolve. Bench tested overnight, intermittent crackling. Resolved by adjusting speaker settings.

You could say this was my first big boy purchase from Best Buy. All in all, a high quality laptop that will run some very demanding games without issue. And you don't have to splurge as much when compared to a desktop :) Couple years on, and still going strong. The one thing I will say is to make sure you don't skimp on storage space. Get the biggest SSD you can if you're gonna build a game library, space runs out faster than you think.

This laptop was beyond what I was expecting. I wanted a laptop initially for my wife to play WoW on with me. But I’ve used it for a variety of games on the go. I’ve recently used it for Starfield, and it runs this game with no issues. Almost always a steady 60fps with some of the highest quality graphics. This laptop has a nice solid yet slender design that makes it compact and easy to transport in a slim carrying case. I highly recommend you getting this if you’re looking for a reliable laptop that will live up to your expectations.

I purchased this laptop open-box, in original packaging, at a great discount, as a gift for my fiancé. The laptop and it’s power cord were packaged in the box and looked brand new as if it came straight from the manufacturer. I was immediately impressed with the in-person appearance. The stock photos I viewed when I purchased this online didn’t do this laptop justice. The traditional laptop design, as opposed to the gaming laptop design, was refreshing. The laptop is a nice size, and wasn’t as heavy as I’d expected. The casing has a durable and smooth feel to it, and the hinges make it very easy to open with one hand, and is magnetic along the inner edges of the keyboard and screen to keep it closed. The matte black color give the a high end and super attractive look. I was impressed right away with the processing speed. The screen resolution is sharp and bright with no lagging. The bang and olfufsen audio produced loud, crisp and clear sound with really nice bass. One of the key aspects I really loved was the 100% sRGb backlit keyboard. Being able to customize the colors gives an opportunity to show your personality and make it your own. I love the feel of the keys themselves and the track pad registers accurate touch. We keep the laptop plugged in at all times, so I don’t really know how well the battery life is. But it also wasn’t something I was super concerned about when shopping for a laptop to begin with. I will say, however, that I was impressed with the size of the included charging adapter. For it being 230w, it is relatively small and compact. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my purchase of this laptop, and my fiancé loves it. Getting this laptop at the amazing price I did just because it was open-box had me feeling like I hit the jackpot.

Works just fine for me, took a little of messing around to make sure the GPU was actually being used right after purchase. The display is great and the keyboard feels nice. The only issues I’ve had is the battery life goes quicker than most and after long periods of time, you get lines on your wrist from the edge near the touch pad. Fans are not too loud either with good ventilation. Would buy again
