I was looking for a lightweight reasonably priced option that my son could use for school. Most of his work is done through Google classroom but we were also given a year of Microsoft office. All my other devices are Apple so it was hard for me to adapt to a windows based device. He's much more tech savvy and it's perfect for his needs plus he loves the color.

The perfect computer for any college student. I love the touch screen and the price of it. Despite some of the reviews that I've read, I don't regret buying this product at all. I haven't had any problems. I would recommend buying a micro SIM card along with this computer to have extra storage.

At first I was nervous using a windows laptop, but once I started playing around with the different features I became more familiar with the system. I love the fact that I can use the touchscreen feature, and the camera!
some cons are:
it does not have a hard drive, but one can be purchased separately.
the laptop is not detachable.
no USB cord.

The HP 13.3 inch laptop is a perfect travel companion. I'm not lugging around a heavy computer when I have plenty of other things to carry. I'm a writer so every chance I get, I'm pulling out my laptop. Having one that's compact yet still does everything you'd expect from a great brand like HP works for me.

This si My First laptop, it's very easy to use, I love the color. Only thing I don't like is that it has no where to insert a CD, therefore I can't watch movies, but it does have the nextflix app which is great, works almost like a phone with all the apps:)

This is the best laptop I have owned. While I am a gamer, this is by no means a gaming machine. But for the basic things needed for study, surfing the web, excel spread sheets and documents - this is far better than owning a tablet in my opinion. I have a Dell 8" tablet and a basic laptop and this combines the best of both worlds.
I can read PDF documents easily and surf the internet via touchscreen. And the keyboard is there whenever I needed it. Typing is comfortable.
The trackpad isn't the best - other laptops beat this, but then again, this one got touchscreen so I'm mostly using that.
Battery lasted me around 5-6 hours on light surfing with data entry which is very good. Boot time is only around less than 10 seconds.
The only con is the storage but I've fixed that easily by inserting a microsd 64gb card in the reader.
I brought this to a 3-day seminar and never failed on me. The next one seated beside me had a Macbook pro and saw him creepily touching/feeling my laptop and when he noticed me staring...he said - "Nice looking laptop and it feels so good!". And I told him, "Yes, and it's only $279 bucks" and his jaw dropped. The funny thing is when we have been required to connect to the internet to gather data, his macbook pro couldn't connect and when it does - drops occassionally while the HP Stream was better.
The last HP notebook I had 10 years ago left me a sour after taste which made me hesitate buying this. But, being the laptop with a touchscreen that is only $279.99 - I jumped on it. And so far happy with it.
HP should continue making these things - they're on the right track.
Also, only Best Buy carries this model. And ordering online for a pick-up later on was a breeze.

Having arrived at a vacation destination with laptop in case, only to open it and find no power cord, I started shopping for power cords. When I realized it would cost me $65 for this essential accessory, I decided to dedicate that amount to the purchase of a low-cost state-of-the-art laptop. Enter the HP Stream. What a bargain, and what a simple yet powerful productivity partner! I've been using it faithfully now for a month with none of the usual Windows OS issues. This little package starts up and shuts down fast, has incredible battery life and enables all the streaming tasks which I have become dependent upon, including responsive video streaming and Office 365. I've all but abandoned my larger, bulkier laptop in spite of reuniting it with its original power cord.
Pluses: start-up / shut-down time; responsive streaming; no noisy, hot fan; lightweight portability, yet solid construction; great keyboard design and spacing; attractive color and design; great HP support
Minuses: limited storage capacity (but advertised as such)
Advantage over Google Chromebook: ability to download limited software, including the ubiquitous and necessary Office 365; touchscreen versatility
I've been able to carry out all of my normal business tasks efficiently and satisfactorily without bogging down in useless extras.
Thanks HP for an excellent, low-cost product!

Exactly what I was looking for

I was looking for an inexpensive (around $250) netbook/laptop that was small, light, had multiple apps, but most importantly could handle actual word processing (so not a chromebook). I needed it to have the native versions of Microsoft Office so I could work and create real .doc documents. Most inexpensive laptops don't do this (they are just media/app/music/gaming devices). After some research, it was clear HP Stream had everything I needed. Went to Best Buy and was checked out with my new computer in less than 10 mins. I got the 13" but there's also an 11" that I was considering. It's a great size for travel but I decided against it because it doesn't have the touch screen. You'll love the touch screen. Comes in so handy. Great product. Gets the job done. Some things are a little complicated but that's as all Microsoft Windows PC products go. The only thing that annoys me with this product is the placement of the home button. It's right next to Backspace so I press home a lot while I'm typing thinking I'm pressing backspace. Annoying. Other than that, it's great. Highly recommend if you are looking for a product with the attributes I mentioned above. I got the blue color which is a bit more adult than the purple and pink. One last downside now that I think of it, is that it only comes in colors. I would have liked a black or silver or even gold one. But the blue is actually really nice. My sister saw it and was like I'm going to get one ASAP!

I bought this computer for my sister who started school. She needed a word processor to get through most of her courses. We headed into the Best buy in my neighborhood and we were immediately loved the color and compactness of the computer. It was portable which she needed, and it happened to be touch screen too. Just what we needed. It even came with Office 365 for free for One year which was excellent. My sis has been able to get through her homework pretty quickly now that she has her computer. The only con is the 32gb of space runs up pretty quickly if you are running application so it requires you to make sure you save your work on a portable drive so that the space on your computer doesn't get eaten up so fast. I would recommend this for a a high school or first year college student. It will do most of the processing applications as needed and can't be the price and the size of the screen.

This laptop reminds me of one of those bumper stickers I keep seeing around town, this HP Stream 13 is "...Not perfect, but forgiven..."
I purchased several of these units for interns in my company. I wanted to keep my costs low because when the internship is over I will give them the computers. I have been doing this for several years now and I can testify that most laptops that people buy at this price point are hardly usable! Not so with the HP Stream 13. Amazingly, for a very cheap price you get a 13 inch Touchscreen, an Intel Celeron processor (not a cheesy cellphone processor like so many tablets/cheap computers are sporting these days), 32GB of SSD hard drive space and 2 GB of ram. Typing on the keyboard is conformable mostly and the trackpad performs as expected - I always use an external mouse so maybe I'm not a great judge of that. The 13 inch size really hits the sweet spot for thin and light computing and portability.
The good - Inexpensive and solid little machine. Surprisingly reliable performance from a low cost computer. The combo of the SSD drive and the Celeron processor work nicely together to give you pretty snappy and reliable performance. Also the touchscreen works great, Windows 8+ is optimized for a touch enabled user interface so that is a great feature especially considering the price. You can expand the sparse storage space by adding a Micro SD card...a 64gb card makes your space for media quite a bit more respectable than what it comes with. Also it is not bad looking - it is a fairly attractive machine with blue gradient coloring and rounded smooth edges.
The bad - the screen resolution is not that great, the hard drive size is small for a Windows 8 machine (you have to discipline yourself to focus on cloud computing if you don't want to run out of HD space fairly quickly!) Remember Windows 8 uses a lot of HD space so almost half of your HD space is in use by the Windows by the time you open the box.
Summary - It's not perfect but it is definitely serviceable.and for the price. I would rather carry one of these than a tablet...at least I will be able to easily use Word, Excel and PowerPoint for productivity on the run, I could also use it for web surfing, plus stream movies or music from one of my favorite services. Playing games on this would be an exercise in futility so don't even think about it unless you are a fan of games that can be easily found on the Windows App Store. I would think of this as a possible tablet replacement (as opposed to a desktop replacement).

I love this computer! It's fast, it boots up and shuts down quickly. I love the color. It's so light and easy to carry. The touchscreen works really well. The battery lasts so long! If I only use it for basic stuff like surfing the web and checking my email, I can charge it only at night like my cell phone.
The only complaints I have are about the storage and the touchpad. The internal memory is only around 20 gigs and that is not a lot. I've only had it for a month and it's almost full. The touchpad registers right and left clicks incorrectly sometimes.
All in all, it's an awesome computer for the price. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I bought this machine for my wife and I to use in making presentations before groups, to browse the internet and to do simple tasks, such as email. It is our first experience with Windows 10. It upgraded perfectly from Win 8.1. The video tutorials have been helpful in making the shift from Windows 7. I was somewhat dismayed by the minimal amount of available space on the hard drive after doing the start up and installing CCleaner. I do highly recommend getting a 64 GB MicroSD card on which to store data. I love the touch screen as well as the feel of the keyboard. The touch pad is fine, as is the monitor. A big plus is the lengthy time that the battery keeps the machine going. I'm getting up to 7 hours. This is really a good product when bought and used for light workouts.

I bought this for small light weight travel and around the house use.
Has a great battery life and the touch screen is excellent.
Price was also great for all the features. I added USB DVD and Hard Drive for more features. But mostly just use the laptop without the DVD and Hard Drive. The speed is unbelievable. Defiantly a great buy.

FIRST THOUGHTS: This laptop is excellent for casual internet users, business users, and students/children who don't need a ton of processing power or internal storage capability. I bought the HP Stream after several months of frustration with a Chromebook which has very limited software and a less-than-great office suite, and the complete lack of printing capability without having a Google-friendly "cloud" printer or going thru another computer (like a desktop) with the Chrome browser set to print from the cloud, a total hassle that should not be.
PROS: Nice "thin" and lightweight laptop, cool blue color; no moving parts inside to wear out; no mechanical hard drive and no fan (passive cooling only), this is not a problem as the components are low voltage and run cool; this laptop comes with the full version of Windows 8.1 and one year of Office 365 so you can use your PC documents and software, and you can print to your local printer without going thru the cloud; there is a built-in microSDXC card reader (those are the tiny cards that go in your phone or tablet) and 3 USB ports (1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0) for storage expansion (I picked up a 128GB USB 3.0 drive myself)... also includes 1TB of OneDrive "cloud" storage which is nice for backing up your data; the battery life is excellent; the Bluetooth 4.0 is great and allows you to connect a wireless mouse and other items without tying up a USB port; the built-in webcam is nice and great for Skype and other apps.
CONS: Only 2GB RAM non-upgradable RAM and 32GB (about 15GB free) non-upgradable eMMC SSD "hard drive" soldered to the motherboard; no RJ-45 Ethernet connector; having a touch screen is totally not necessary on a laptop; no internal CD/DVD drive - buy an external USB drive if needed; HP put the slowest and cheapest wifi card they could find in this thing, it is a wireless N 54Mbps card and not one megabit faster, making advanced users like myself note this as a con.
Don't hesitate to pick up a HP Stream laptop if you don't need the additional expense and bulkiness of a full-power laptop. I'm glad I bought this one and you will be too!

Bought this for less than retail at Best Buy and was surprised that for under $300 I could get a touch screen laptop that isn't laggy like my W8 Lenovo @1.3GHz. This says its 2.1GHz but its actually boosted to 2.66GHz. Only downsides are the RAM is not expandable and the memory is only 32GB, but you get Cloud storage and its easily expanded with a MicroSD Card. Overall I would pay more than a hundred dollars what I spent for this experience. I do some lightweight gaming on this and it flies by at around 40-60FPS @720p. Incredible machine for an outstanding value.

This is a great laptop for anyone, im a college student so the price along with the quality was a steel! Very happy I purchased this laptop while it was on sale and in a bundle. Touch screen works great, laptop is sleek, perfect size for me and has a great color. I got it with anti virus software, so far computer hasn't glitches or froze on me. Reviews said that the pixel quality wasnt the best, but i stream netflix on it and says fine. If your in the market for one, especially if your a college student who can't afford a macbook, pick this laptop up. Won't regret it

As being only around $300, you wouldn't expect much from this... but it is AMAZING. The touchscreen is very handy as well, it's a great addition to the one this laptop upgraded from; I would definitely recommend to get the touchscreen HP stream (this one) rather than the non-touchscreen one because it's only around $30 more, but still VERY INEXPENSIVE.
PROS:
-great packaging (sleek, bright, lightweight)
-touchscreen
-battery lasts a LONG TIME
-one of the cheapest yet one of the best laptops
-easy to use
-great for traveling
CONS
-keyboard is a little small [but honestly who cares, this is around $300!!!!]
