I bought this product because I refuse to wear a chest strap. It is basically a chest strap for your wrist that also has a display to show you your real time heart rate. It gives pretty accurate heart rate readings as well. If these are the only features that you're looking for, then you won't be disappointed. You need a good app on your phone to sync with so you can record your workouts because this watch doesn't really have to keep track of all your workouts. Overall, i am very pleased with my purchase but I admit it is a bit pricey for what it does.

Easy to initiate After reading the instructions. Button areas not as sensitive as iniitially expected after read the operating instructions. No need to cinch absolute tight on wrist. 98% of my issues/problems resolved by software upgrade sent by email to me upon request for answers to my email questions. The customer service phone number is very busy and phone messages may be replied to within days. No need to sync to any device to view information.

Best heart rate monitor. It works underwater, it's strapless, and it would be good for research studies. It has Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities.

I am using the Mio Alpha to monitor my heart rate 24x7. Collating data to get an insight into exercise ‘zone’, stress and sleep patterns. It’s on my wrist constantly, giving about 30 hours off a full charge. All I want/need from it is a wireless/strapless heart rate monitor and a basic watch. This is exactly what you get. The Alpha syncs real time (about 0.6 second delay) to my S3 running Jason Pribble‘s BLE Heart Rate Monitor app. The app allows me to export all the heartbeat info to a .csv (or tcx) file. Which I import into excel for some number crunching. During a recent doctors visit, he asked about my ‘watch’. Aside from telling me it looked cool, he manually took my pulse for comparison and said it was accurate. This is the only reference I have for the unit’s accuracy. It does exactly what they promise, so I have would recommend this product. Other points: I haven’t used the Alpha during exercise yet, all my data is from normal day-to-day activities. Works in the shower. The unit does get a break, I can’t wear it when it is on charge (about a couple of hours), but aside from that, I have run it for 12 days with no problems at all. I called support to confirm battery life. Got straight through and they were helpful. They even asked me to call back if I ever had any issues. I’ll update the review with comments if anything comes up.

Great HR monitor without the chest strap! I've compared this to chest strap HR monitors and also the HR monitors on the gym equipment at my local gym and it's spot on 99% of the time! I combine this with my LG life and touch and the jawbone UP24 fitness trackers...the Adidas mi coach app works well with this HR monitor as well

I love my heart rate monitor. I've gone through many chest strap heart rate monitors and they are great but I hate the cutting of the strap. I love how this is all in one. Works great in any condition and get accurate results. The one bad thing is that it doesn't give you calories count on the actual watch must have an app to sync wireless to get all the results. One bad thing is that it doesn't have a back light.

I've found it super helpful to be able to track my heart rate as I run. It's way easier to put on and take off than chest monitor and it is nice and comfortable on the wrist. The reading seems very accurate and consistent about 95% of the time. Periodically it will drop about 20BPM for 30 seconds or so, but will recover fairly quickly. All in all it is a great watch for exercising and I like that it is waterproof.

I wanted something where I could keep track of my heartrate on my wrist but still have it bluetooth to my fitness app on my iPhone... carrying my iPhone around during a workout is just not practical.. the Mio Alpha works GREAT! It's not perfect though, about 5% of the time it will significantly under report my heart rate.. but it doesn't happen often enough to really bother me. the battery life is great and recharging is easy. I like it's simplicity (my fitness app can give me all the nerdy data).. it's easy to pair with my iPhone and works like a charm. Highly recommend.

The Mio Alpha is gets an accurate reading about 95% of the time. Usually when it is off it because it has loss contact with my skin due to excessive sweating. Overall I am glad to get away from my chest strap.

The HR readings are so erratic it sometimes makes the device useless. During every workout I'll see a consistent reading of 140 for example and then it will drop to 60 for a few minutes and then if I'm lucky get back to the actual number. I think the device is best for stationary biking. I've found that when my arms are moving the device just doesn't work that well. Save your money until the technology improves.

I've had 2 previous MIO products, both worked out very well for me. The watch is very slick looking in detail. Very easy to see. User friendly and simple to use. It connects with phones via the blue tooth. But if you don't have a capable phone, this product wouldn't be very useful given its price. Watch doesn't save any data, doesn't connect to a computer either.

Expensive, but worth it. It works as advertised. Does not connect to Garmin cycle computers. Does connect to one android phone ap BLE Heart Rate Monitor. Battery lasts much longer than advertised, especially if you only monitor, not starting the timer. Use it on a Nordic track skier and on a mountain bike. Love this monitor. No regrets. No chest strap!

It's a lot of money to check your pulse rate but it is very accurate and looks good. Could use a backlight for night use.

This heart rate monitor is hands down the best value on the market. It may cost a bit more than some other brands but the open functionality to use it without a chest strap, as the band alone, or with either smart operating system was a huge seller for my wife and I. We both use it regularly and love it. The accuracy is great, better even than our at home blood pressure/heart rate monitor! I highly recommend this product. If there is any drawback it's the size of the face and band which can be a little cumbersome in the gym if ur wearing wrist straps or gloves... But well worth the set back for the quality.
