I've had my GE66 Raider for a few days now and have been loving it. The long and short of this review is: The product is pretty much perfect and delivers everything advertised, with the main hang-up being the price. Pros: - Most beautiful laptop I have ever seen, especially at night. If exterior design is important to you, and you're a fan of bright neon lights (like I am!), I don't think there's a better laptop on the market. Just look at the picture! Captivating colors in front and all over the keyboard, perfect for late-night gaming and useage. The silver backplate with the metallic dragon shield is super cool, too, giving this laptop a spectacular look all-around. - Aside from fan issues (noted below), this laptop runs games at high settings with a spectacular framerate. Even at max graphical settings, the benchmark test in Civilization VI (which simulates a HUGE game to test your hardware) never dips below 80 FPS, while early game you'll actually max out your frames. Not that this is the game where you'll most want those extra frames... but it's the one I play most, anyway. - Just super duper quick all around. With the SSD plus 32 GB(!) of RAM, everything runs fast and flawlessly. I have yet to experience any kind of slowdown whatsoever due to RAM usage, which I'm pretty sure will be the case for anyone with such a high amount. I've never had a laptop so quick and seamless at all times like this. - 1 TB of space on the SSD is the perfect amount for a laptop. Remember that a lot of that space gets eaten up by the OS, which is why I personally find 512 to be way too low. My previous laptop was 512, and it didn't take long at all to fill it up (and I don't even install a whole lot of games). - Lots of different ports for folks who need 'em. Personally I find the SD card slot useful for transferring the screenshots and videos from my Nintendo Switch (you'll need a MicroSD adapter to do that). Cons: - Despite purchasing it, I feel this laptop is priced a bit too high. There's a GE75 Raider model also by MSI with all the same specs for the same price, except it has a 300 Hz screen instead of 240. I still chose this one because I preferred the 15.6" screen size and the other one was sold out on Best Buy's website (pretty much ever since it was listed), but there are certainly better "bangs for your buck" out there. This was the main reason I removed a star. - In regards to the front LED, which is the defining feature of the laptop's design, there is an internal white/miscolored piece near the touchpad that obfuscates the lighting in that area. It's minimal, but once you notice it your eyes will be drawn to it every time, which unfortunately takes away from the beauty of it. - The fans can get loud when games eat up a lot of memory. This can be reduced by turning down graphical settings, but if you're paying for that RTX 2070 SUPER, don't you want to put it to use? - Sometimes audio can be on the quieter side. I've noticed this especially in Discord calls with certain soft-speaking users, who I could hear fine without maxing out my audio on my previous laptop. However, as I've done few Discord calls so far and haven't made too much of a concentrated effort yet to adjust the audio settings, I can't say for certain whether this is unsolvable or not (but certainly not through checking all the "obvious" settings). So altogether, if you're willing to shell out $2,199.99 plus tax for this model, you'll most likely be very happy with what it has to offer. Just do your research first and be certain that it's the model you REALLY want. Personally, for me, I feel that it was, but shop around and find out what's right for you. As far as the laptop delivering on what's advertised, it absolutely does.

This is the best laptop in it's price range. Keyboard is clicky with good travel. The fans keep it cool especially with cooler boost on. Battery life seems better than the i5-1065g1 in the laptop I returned that claimed 8.5 hours and was only 4 tops. I would expect over 6 hours with light use and battery saver turned on, just beware that battery saver makes it slow down a lot. The screen is bright and no dead pixels. Backlight bleed is minimal in the bottom corners, nothing to be concerned about. Colors are accurate and 240hz 1080p is great on a 15.6 inch screen. Trackpad is good and clicky. Build quality is very good , aluminum screen lid and keyboard deck. Upgradable ram and extra nvme slot. Per key rgb is fun to play with and set up for games, as well as the led light strip in the front. Very fast GPU, full powered Nvidia RTX 2070 super max-p which allows for overclocking, but it's not needed yet as this handles any game available right now. The temps are great. It's faster than to rtx 2080 max-q so avoid that one. The GPU clocks higher than the standard rtx 2070 laptops out there, so don't believe some of the videos on YouTube that claim it runs the same as the standard rtx 2070. I don't use RTX ray tracing in games, but if you want it for that, you might want to wait for the 3000 series to be available around January 2021. I wanted a super powerful laptop now and this is it. It out preformed my GTX 1080 on my desktop so I have confidence it will be future proof for at least the next 4-6 years. By then, I expect streaming of online gaming to be the replacement and, any laptop will work at that time. If you want a powerful well built machine now, the buy this while they are available. They sell out fast. I first purchased the hp omen with ryzen 7 and 1660ti, the ryzen is more powerful with its 8 cores 16 threads as this has intel i7 with 6 cores 12 threads, but the 1660ti is no match for the RTX 2070 super max-p. Just buy it already.

I am a cybersecurity engineer student and I was looking for a powerful laptop for my last semester of school. I needed a laptop with a strong CPU since I need to run multiple Virtual Machines for software testing and System Penetration. I also needed plenty of Ram to share with my virtual machine and still have my Host OS running smoothly. Thermals on the laptop are surprisingly very good, Before underbolting the CPU 100Mv the CPU was reaching temps of around 70-80c under stress. Which is not bad given you have 2070 Super 115w. After underbolting the CPU Temps hover around 40c-84c pushing the cpu to its max running 2 virtual machines along with the host OS with some tools in the background. While gaming the temperatures managed to stay pretty cool after underbolting. The fans do kick on and they can be kinda loud but, its to be expected with such powerful components. Screen- I am not a big fan of the screen. Coming from a Macbook Pro the screen does not look as sharp or bright. Also, the colors are not as accurate as the macbook. I would rate the screen 6-7 out of 10. But again this is not a creators laptop its a gamers laptop. In the department the screen is responsive and feels buttery smooth! Keyboard and Trackpad- Coming from the Macbook Trackpad. I would say the trackpad on this laptop is 7 or 8. It's not as big as the macbook but, it feels smooth and responsive. It's not a glass trackpad but, its feels very smooth while using it. The keyboard I absolutely love! The keys feel nice to type on. Wish there was a little bit more travel but overall I like it better than the Macbook Pro Magic keyboard on the Macbook Pro! Speakers- They are garbage to be honest. They sound terrible but, since i always have my noise cancelling earphone on, this is not a deal breaker for me. If you're looking for a laptop with great speakers.. Do not buy this rig,, I repeat DO NOT buy this rig, Battery i would say its a solid 5-6 Hours. Which it doesnt sound like its a lot but, considering the components this laptop packs it's actually pretty impressive. ] Wifi6- Superfast! I can get 700Mps download speed on wifi. It also offers a good range since its wifi 6. The new more expensive MacBook doesn't even offer wifi 6. My thoughts- The Build quality of the laptop is not Macbook Like BUT, it feels very solid. No flex while pressing on the keyboard. Very little or no flex at the screen. The laptop is a little bit on the heavy side but, I like it because it feels rogged. If you're looking for a Great Gaming PC that is also a very capable machine to run virtualization software, coding or video edeting(Using a nicer monitor i recommend). This is the laptop. Its a very powerful laptop even though the i7 is not the most powerful out out there but, that is ok because it also doesnt run super hot. I recommend underbolting the machine and disabling turbo mode when no extra performance is needed. You will gain more battery life and the machine will run quieter and cooler. If you can't decide to go with this or a Macbook... Ditch the Macbook overpriced and not very good thermals. This rig is way better!

Wow! What an impressive 15” beast of a laptop. I have had an ASUS Zephyrus G15 and a Maingear Element 2 before finding what I think to be the perfect gaming laptop to run the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. It has a great aluminum build, amazing SteelSeries keyboard, awesome Sharp 240Hz panel, strong 6 core i7-10705H CPU performance with wonderful thermals when undervolted, 32GB of DDR4 3200 ram that’s running at 2933Mhz, Western Digital SN730 1TB NVMe SSD, and an RTX 2070 Super 115 watt variant. This baby has it all and I can’t wait to see how well she’ll run Flight Simulator!

I thought it was high time to chime in on my thoughts and impressions so far with this MSI Gaming laptop. Well, there's no denying it, I love this computer. This PC has handled all the games I have thrown at like a champ [Monster Hunter World Iceborne, etc.] Coming from a much larger gaming laptop, I found the smaller size a welcomed feature and I didn't really need it to have a ten key. The software to control the computer is also really simple to use and understand. You can tone down the power for those moments you are not going to be gaming and make this machine very silent. I ended up upgrading the OS to Win 10 professional, but that was my personal preference. I also like that the main inputs to this machine are mostly in the back. I currently have nothing plugged into the sides, which makes for cleaner cable management. When you are gaming on newer AAA titles, this machine can get pretty loud with the fans. However, that's true of any machine that computes at these specs or higher. If you game with a nice headset, this will probably not be a huge deal. To be honest, my only gripe is the lack of cool first party accessories. I wish MSI took a page from Razer and made tons of accessories for their great machines. I ended up purchasing a MSI USB C dock for this PC. I wanted to the ease that dock could provide...one cable in and ready to go. The dock unfortunately works on only a small percentage of MSI laptops which was disappointing. I know, it's nit-picky, but i wish they offered all kinds of cool cases and accessories. On a final note, finding a sleeve for this machine proved to be more challenging than i expected. A traditional sleeve fitting a 15' laptop won't always cut it; as this machine is thicker than most 15' laptops. I must have returned 3 sleeves, before finding one that worked great [Solo laptop sleeve for 15.6']. I highly recommend this machine and I personally feel it's worth the investment. I hope this review helps a bit.

This laptop is one of a kind beast. It can run pretty much any game you like with high frames. I’m not a desktop guy so I got this instead and I don’t regret my decision. Pros: Battery life Keyboard font is really unique and cool Doesn’t get hot while playing if fan is on high setting Overall looks and design RGB keyboard lighting and front edge lighting Cons: msi software is a little bit buggy but not to the point to annoy you while using it Overall its a great laptop and I would repurchase it in a heart beat if I were to go back in time.

It’s beautiful. Runs games buttery smooth. It’s a 2070 super, NOT max q, this thing beats the 2080 super max q. 32GB dual channel RAM goodness. Runs relatively cool. Fans aren’t super loud, only when cooler booster is on. Uses an interesting proprietary charger. This thing is pretty future proof for the price. And the 15.6” factor makes it super easy to carry around. This is a great machine with great cooling.

This MSI GE66 is a BEAST! I just bought the Alienware M15 R3 wrote a review as it was the only open box laptop I can find with a 2070 Super and not a dumb down 2080 MAX-Q or 2070 max-q. Soo the Dell M15 R3 - Boy does the it get extremely HOT to 100c solid. I used ThrottleStop and it helped but yesterday accidently I looked up a MSI GE66 and found an open box for a much better price lower price at Best Buy. So I brought it home and yes the MSI is Superior to the M15 R3 or any Alienware laptop running 20 degrees cooler without running ThrottleStop every time I boot up and want to play games. Both laptops have the same GPU AND CPU but MSI cools much better comes with 32gbs of ram upgradable not solder onto the board like the Alienware laptop and the MSI comes with 1TB SSD nvme. holy crap!! They're roughly identical in size and weight. MSI isn't perfet but the performance is amazing tripple AAA games running on highest to ultra settings solid FPS between 86fps to 200fps SICK!!! Love it. So far today I spent 10 hours testing both laptops right next to each other and MSI wins BIG. Tomorrow I will return the Alienware M15 R3 for a full refund. Boy did I get a heck of a deal on this MSI crisp, clean and in perfect condition for under $1250. Oculus Quest 2 via link cable on ultra settings Boneworks at 120hz AMAZING. Half-Life Alyx and Saints and Sinners on Ultra settings breath taking experience unbelievable graphics performance. I would go into more details but I rather just get back into the gaming........PEACE! MSI IS THE BETTER PRODUCT with crazy flawless performance. if you don't like the front LED bar turn it off. laptop looks good and clean. Yes Desktop is a MSI 3080 x Trio 10900k, 32 Corsair Dominator ram at 3600 lol....gaming pandemic.

I'm a occasional gamer and I wanted a laptop capable to handle Microsoft flight simulator 2020 and this one is a beast enough to run it a very demanding game at 1080p everything in ultra settings at 35fps+ , also I'm getting 60FPS stable in every game tried. Fans are loud but its ok , this is a powerhouse packed in a very thin and light case. Keyboard and the front light are crazy customizable , trackpad is good , has a very bright screen and all the videos look amazing. I'm happy with my purchase and glad I choose this brand over the Alienware .

As a casual gamer that looks for the most amazing video game experiences that I can get on games that I really enjoy playing on my spare time, I've to say, what an amazing machine this MSI laptop is! I decided to upgrade to this laptop from an Acer Nitro 5, Intel i5 8th Gen. Processor, with an NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti graphics card, that comes with an 256GB Kingston SSD, (had to buy a Samsung 1TB SSD to upgrade the Storage Capacity on it, since it's upgradable, and it met my needs for gaming), and it's a very amazing Mid-Tier laptop overall. But, after using it mainly for gaming for sometime, I decided that I wanted to get a better fps (frames-per-second) experience, since my Acer can only reach 60fps max. I wanted to buy a gaming laptop that could handle some heavy Triple-A games, with high-ultra settings, and that had more than 144+fps for the smoothest gameplay that I could experience, so I started browsing and researching from multiple tech reviewers, videos, and online stores. And after a while of doing this, there it was, the MSI GE66 10SFS! YES, it's very pricey, and I was still debating if I'd rather build my own Gaming Rig little-by-little instead, but at the end this dragon of a machine convinced me! I bought it, mainly because of its 240fps, which are MIND-BLOWINGLY AMAZING for smooth gameplay, and I'm really enjoying the experience gaming on it so far! I'm recently playing MSFS2020 (Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020) on high settings in my spare time, and WOW is this laptop handling it wonderfully, since that game is VERY demanding, some critics even saying that "currently there's no proper, powerful enough hardware available in the Market that can handle the highest settings, (Ultra Settings, 4K resolutions), for this game!". I completely believe them, since this laptop does get very, VERY noisy with the fans while I'm playing it, which means that's under very heavy use. Overall, superb high-end laptop with amazing features for a reasonable price, (if you were to compare it with other brands with the same, or close to the same specs as this one), in my opinion. I superbly recommend it to those gamers looking for the greatest, smoothest gameplay, with the highest HD resolutions, (not 4K), in a gaming laptop!

Purchased this laptop because I am going back to school to finish my degree in Photography, but also needed a laptop powerful enough to run a DAW on for my music projects. I am also an avid amateur astronomer, so the computer will be used for imaging and guiding software for that as well using programs like PHD2 and Backyard Nikon. So far, the computer is good overall. Setup was easy and straight forward. The keyboard is excellent and the build feels really solid. It is a bit on the heavier side, but it’s a work horse, so you have to expect it to not be a light weight portable machine. The only thing I would add to this machine is some biometrics for Windows Hello. Other than that, it hits the mark all the way around.

I've had the GE66 for 11 days now, and it's been everything I'd hoped it'd be. Zero issues, worries, or gripes. It runs anything I throw at it, and looks incredible while doing it. 12/10 would recommend. It's expensive, but at about $120/mo for 18 months 0% financing through the Best Buy cc it seemed like a no brainer. I plan to upgrade the RAM to 64GB, and add another 2TB SSD in the secondary 2.5 bay. It's nice to have room for things like that built in, thanks MSI. Overall this thing's a powerhouse. If you're considering other laptops in this price range, i'd seriously consider this as your choice.

Since last year I have debated on the correct laptop to purchase for Architecture School and I narrowed it down to Apple, Microsoft and MSI. It made my decision easier by getting some advice from my advisor, online reviews and the programs I would be using. Skeptical at first I strayed away from the gaming pc because I figured it’s only meant to game but I was wrong. I just opened my laptop and started downloading needed programs such as Auto Cad, Revit, Adobe Photoshop and sketch up with ease. I start school in a month and I am super impressed with the speed, durability and compatibility of this gaming laptop. MSI has done a great job for multiple uses with this set up.

So I've owned this laptop for a little over two months now (didn't want to leave a review after just a couple of days/weeks) with fairly consistent, daily use. For context, in the past I've worked for a large, well-known manufacturer, for a few years, building/programming computers. As well as building a few of my own for personal use over the recent years. I can honestly say that this is one of the most complete, ready to go, right out of the box performance-oriented laptops I've seen. I was skeptical at first, due to it being a laptop, especially regarding thermals.. but wow! I purchased this computer (after about a week of extensive research) mainly for audio production, video editing & software development. It excels in each & every area. I've also spent quite a few hours gaming, on Ultra settings & have yet to see the GPU reach above 70° & CPU above 68ish.. heavy games too, like Star Citizen, Insurgency: Sandstorm & Microsoft's recent Flight Simulator to name a few. Flawless performance! I will add though, that I do use ThrottleStop & Afterburner, mainly as a precaution & out of habit. Though depending on your luck with your unit's application of thermal paste, they may not even be needed. I could run mine without them, but as I said.. habit. I've also not had to adjust any fan settings, as they seem to keep the machine cool as-is. I do always recommend elevating your laptop though if you're running at full-throttle (since they pull air in through the bottom) with a vented stand/cooling pad. Internals are solid upon inspection (added a second M.2 NVMe drive), ports are solid, the SteelSeries keyboard feels nice & responsive, durable (although the RGB software seems to bug out at times, requiring a full system reboot, but I haven't noticed that happening since the most recent update). System is quiet most of the time, & even under stress, the fans really aren't that loud at all. It is a bit on the heavier side, but that is to be expected, all things considered. As for the audio quality of the internal speakers.. they aren't the best out there, but there are certainly far from horrible. For typical browsing, YouTube, podcasts etc. they are perfectly fine. They are located on the sides of the laptop, as sort of an after-thought it seems, which is probably one critical reason they don't "sound" better than they do. But it makes sense, considering the overall design & purpose of this particular laptop. I do use headphones most of the time anyway so the internal speakers weren't a selling point for me to begin with. Battery life is as expected for such a demanding machine. It can be tweaked however, to squeeze more run time out of the machine.. & although I typically have it plugged in, when unplugged, on modest settings, coding, reading, browsing the web etc.. I can get between 4-6 hours of use out of it. Maybe 8ish, depending on what I'm doing & how many programs are running in the background. Which again, is to be expected. I think my only complaint would be with Dragon Center, as it can be a bit inconsistent at times.. but it isn't dire by any means & can be ignored or even uninstalled. At the end of the day, I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends/family & would personally, definitely purchase from MSI again based on the build quality alone.

I am very satisfied with this because of several reasons. 1. It was significantly cheaper than an Apple laptop somewhat comparable in specs. 2. It was made to be geared towards both creators and gamers, and I'm a creator. 3. It runs incredibly well with multiple Adobe software opened at the same time. 4. It works well with a drawing tablet hooked up. 5. I do not have to carry an external webcam with me. 6. It's extremely powerful for the cost. 7. It quickly cools down. 8. Being able to both play and do work on my computer is important, and this will enable both with ease. I am looking forward to see what it's like after a few months, but I do not think I will be disappointed.

So far this computer has been nothing but amazing! From the very customizable rgb keyboard and front bar down to the simple press of a button to kick your fans to high. It has ran every game I’ve tried so far at max settings and doesn’t skip a beat!!

I bought this on sale but would still recommend it, at least until the 3080’s start being sold in laptops. Runs a little louder then I would like but stays fairly cool if I don’t use it for more then 4 hours on hard tasks. (newest games on their higher settings, rendering large photos or editing 3D art and for heavy workloads.) Other then that it operates as fast as one would expect for its stats. The keyboard is nice and responsive the track pad is... well a trackpad... the metal case is really neat and no pixels were burnt out or functions missing so I’m rather pleased over all with the laptop.
