You can have this professionally installed, but I did it myself. Very easy to install. Tied into my reverse lights so my Overdryve 7 Unit automatically switches to reverse camera when I put the car in reverse. Slight (2 second) delay from gear shift to back up camera image. Works well at night in low light levels. If you have an Overdryve 7, then I highly recommend the back up camera.

I replaced the backup camera on my motor home. Transmits fine to 40'. Most units are $400 or more...what a deal on this one. Picture is very sharp and clear !! Only drawback is that it only works with the OverDryve 7 tablet. No stand alone apps available ...yet ???

I bought an OverDryve7C from a local Walmart ($30) and bought this item here $30. Installation is not hard. Just uncovered trim of tailgate, and connected it to reverse light bulb.
After setup completed, the screen is automatically shown up when reverse mode.

I had reviews about this camera before I purchased it and they were all in favor of purchasing it so I did. Problem...I never truly got to install it as I took everything back before that could happen as I was disappointed with the GPS UNIT and rubber non skid base. I am only rating it a five as others have rated a 5. Not really sure how well it really would had worked

I found the RandMcNally OverDryve7 and it required the purchase of a separate rearview camera. This one is the recommended option, so I bought it along with the OverDryve7. It was relatively easy to install, but it requires some basic knowledge of auto wiring connections. The wireless connection occurred quickly and has been very reliable. The one disappointment is that there is a 1-3 second delay after shifting into Reverse before the picture displays on the OverDryve7 unit. When it does the picture is very clear, automatically adjust to the lighting conditions, and display a backup grid depicting distances. It doesn't predict your path as you turn while backing as some of the in-dash units do, but that is not a major problem. Very handy addition to my pickup which has found it's way to some short obstacles not visible over the tailgate. Now I have no excuse for backing into those short obstacles. If you are going to buy the OverDryve7, I strongly recommend adding the wireless backup camera.

Good Camera...but stopped working on Apple IOS 13
Posted .

I've been very happy using this camera for over a year with my iPhone 6 S. Very happy with it. But it stopped working with the Apple IOS 13 upgrade.
The problem: Once connected to the camera, there is a message that does not go away "No Wi-Fi connection detected. Please check your settings". When you click 'OK', it kicks you back to the RM menu screen. See uploaded photo.
Rand McNally tech support have acknowledged the issue. I don't know when their App update will be ready, they have not provided any information.
So the ONLY reason I'm selecting 'No' to " Would you recommend this to a friend?" below, is because it will not work with IOS 13. More than happy to come back and update my review once the fix is in place.

there are 2 options to install: 1 by plugin directly to cigarette adapter - this way your backup camera is always ON and no need to cut any cables. 2. by tap into backup light cables (red and black) - easy too - they provided the extra pair of tap in case you tap into wrong cables. There is no picture on instruction, but if you look at the box, you see how the finish supposed to be like. I installed w/ Option2, so signal kind of slow to pickup. My case put in Reverse, power source feeds to transmitter in backup camera, then open Backup Camera app, it will pickup a bit faster.

Best Buy installed it and I had to go back to get it adjusted. First it didn't recognize the back-up camera. They fixed that and told me it was a little slow due to wireless. That did not bother me but it started jumping up on the screen when I was driving. It stopped working and now I have to go back in to get it repaired. I'll try to let you know if it gets fixed.

Good picture and easy to install. Wish the overall build quality was better because this is my second purchase of one after the first one I installed a little over a year ago stopped working. I suspect it is from road spray and salt from New York winters. We will see how well this one holds up.

OK it works the only thing is it does lag sometimes which makes me a little scared when backing up and sometimes its takes the overdryve tablet a while to switch to the backup camera app(which it does automatically if setup correctly) and while switch back and forth between D and R the tablet may get stuck on the backup camera app with a gray screen

I bought two wireless backup cameras. One of the cameras did not work. The other camera works fine and I like having a view of what's behind me without using my rearview mirrors.

This camera was much easier to install than the wired one I put on my other truck. It does take a while to connect so I'm glad I wired it to the running lights. The only downside is it sometimes disconnects for no reason -- but that could be the tablet I'm using.

Great $30 Backup Camera

I purchased this backup camera not expecting anything great or it even being that useful but after playing with the camera without installing it (has a cigarette lighter plug) I was happy with the little to no lag on my LG G7 and iphone 8 so I installed this on my back license plate and hooked up the power to my backup lights. A fair warning that you will need to hold the brake while in reverse (or don't turn on the engine and put the emergency brake on while the car is in reverse) and wait for the WiFi to show in the settings and set up the password and save it to memory on your phone when you set it up. After that initial setup just make sure when the engine is on and you're ready to reverse that you hold the brake for 4-8 seconds for the WiFi to turn on and the app on the phone to connect to the backup camera before you move. I normally only use the app when there's big vehicles parked next to my coupe but it does the trick with a little patience.

This camera was an easy install and I had never done an install before. Great wide angle view.
Every now and then it doesn't communicate with the overdrive unit.

Installation was easy. My only complaint is the extreme fish eye effect this lens has. I wish it was more of a realistic view. I may replace the lens on the system at a later date.

The daytime performance is ok but the image is fairly dark. At night the view is unusable. The angle of view is much wider than a built in back up camera and things are much closer than they appear on the screen.
