After an extensive comparison with its rivals, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 34" stands out as the pinnacle of gaming monitors, offering a perfect blend of style and substance. Its sleek design not only elevates any gaming setup but also packs a punch with features like high-quality built-in speakers and a convenient 65W USB-C port. I personally bought the LG 45" UltraGear OLED, Alienware - AW3423DWF 34" OLED, and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 34" to compare all three models side-by-side. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 34" won and here's why.
Design and Features:
The G8's design is nothing short of elegant, fitting seamlessly into a professional environment while boasting features tailored for the ultimate gaming experience. Its surprise package? The remarkably good built-in speakers and the versatile USB-C port, a boon for MacBook users.
Gaming Performance:
Paired with an RTX 4080, the G8 offers an immersive gaming experience. The visuals are crisp, colors pop, and the overall performance is fluid, making every gaming session an event to look forward to.
Pros:
- Crisp, vibrant display
- High-quality built-in speakers
- Sleek, professional design
Cons:
- Clunky UI
- Wobbly stand without a stable desk
- Micro display ports could be a turnoff
Final Verdict:
This monitor is a beast in the gaming world, and at its sale price of $899.99, it's an absolute bargain. While it has its flaws, they are overshadowed by its performance and design. A solid 4/5 stars from me.

I recently purchased an open-box monitor in good condition from Best Buy. The display is excellent, with a crisp and vibrant image quality that exceeded my expectations. Watching content or working on this monitor is a pleasure due to the sharpness and color accuracy.
However, I do have a couple of caveats to mention. First, the monitor's port options are limited to a mini DisplayPort and micro HDMI, which are quite rare and inconvenient. It would have been much more user-friendly to include standard HDMI or DisplayPort options.
Regarding the open-box condition, while the monitor functions perfectly, there were a few cosmetic issues. I noticed some scratches on the back and a bit of sticky residue on the display itself. Fortunately, these haven't affected the monitor's performance.

Absolutely superb monitor. Incredible color, pretty sharp resolution, the refresh rate is amazing to have, and overall feels like a very premium, well made monitor, as it should be. I bought one of these to replace my previous set up of two 27 inch 1440p monitors, and seriously, ultra wide is the way to go. I do not miss the second screen at all. Even with the price tag in mind, this monitor is absolutely stellar and IS worth the money. I really only have 2 complaints about it, and honestly, with everything that it does correct, I look past them most of the time. My first (and much smaller) complaint is the stand. It’s just okay. Doesn’t feel super smooth to adjust, and the base in particular just feels a little cheap. Completely serviceable though, and as a person who doesn’t need to constantly change the height or angle of the monitor, doesn’t bother me much. The software, on the other hand… it’s just bad. I do not like the smart hub features, and I also do not like how basic the settings menu is. The settings I can adjust feel very limited, and for a monitor that is going to resonate well with enthusiasts, I don’t think this should be the case. Even with that, though, once I got everything to where I wanted it to be, this display blows everything else out of the water. Getting work done and multitasking open programs is amazing, and ultra wide gaming is just as good. Very easy recommendation for anyone who wants an ultra wide and cares about the picture quality of their display.

This is a beautiful display. It's QD-OLED, what do you expect. Whatever great things you ve heard about it, it's true. Colors are bright and fantastic, and blacks are true blacks.
I so far haven't noticed any color fringing issues with texts yet. I bought it to play games on and to watch videos so your mileage may vary, but I honestly don't see any at all.
I did have the same issue as some others have had with the monitor waking up and needing to hard reset my pc but (fingers crossed), I suddenly stopped having that issue for a few days now where it would happen consistently if the pc went into standby mode. Silent background update? Who knows. I am on the latest firmware which is relatively painless. You can download the latest firmware through the monitor menus.
The G8 hasn't been headache free but it's a brand new product, there's bound to be some early adopter troubles. If that worries you, then wait a little bit while Samsung irons out the oddities... but with a pretty basic pc knowledge, it's been great.
Previous daily driver was a 240hz IPS gaming monitor (AW2518H) and haven't noticed any frame rate differences between 240 vs 175 when gaming (CS and OW). Only time I'll notice a difference is the mouse cursor smoothness on the desktop lol. The near instant latency probably helps a lot with that.

Yo this monitor is cold easily the best monitor i have ever seen and beat out everything i have had so far the only down side is that its not as big as the 45 inch oled that i had from lg but i sent that back because of brightness being to low for me. I had the Alienware qd oled 1st one, neo g9 neo g8 and the new 45 inch oled from lg All good but not good enough for me, in my opinion this monitor leagues ahead. For those of you thinking you could go for the Alienware to save money over this one sorry to tell you, but that’s not gonna work. This one is destroying the Alienware. I think the panel have glass on it rather than the cheap plastic Alienware uses so it looks much crispier more like a regular oled panel like the TVs S95B and a a95k or a more vivid brighter C2 34 inch oled TV , love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Monitor looks and works great. Colors are vibrant, haven't really had issues with brightness which is something I hear a lot with OLED screens. Built in speakers are also nice to have, they aren't amazing but they definitely work well enough for me. Overall great purchase for sale price. Regular price may be a bit too steep to be worth it in my opinion.

I have had this monitor for about a month. Went from having a 1080p 27” and 1440 32”, to only this monitor. Picture quality is marginally better than the 32” since that was also 1440p, but the contrast and color saturation just makes looking at this screen so enjoyable, I could just look at it all day. The base being metal is a nice touch and really makes it feel premium, I kind of wish the entire stand was made of metal but that’s just nitpicking. Performance wise - it’s an excellent monitor, I use mine for content consumption, gaming and very light office work. I would recommend this monitor to friends if they want a good looking premium monitor. The only thing I can mark it down for is that I wish the rgb lights were brighter and this might be personal taste, but if it was 38” it would be perfect as a single monitor solution, but I can deal with 34”.

Outstanding monitor. User interface is a breeze and the amenities are endless. From the built in game hub and app style home menu it has all the benefits of a smart tv with all the form and functionality desired from a monitor standpoint. The RGB blacklight is subtle yet can make your space feel like its yours. The speakers are surprisingly good sounding. Amazing for gaming with vivid and standout colors and deep blacks. The 34" display is the perfect size for me and was a phenomenal upgrade from a 27 inch. Considering i got this monitor on sale at 999.99 value will get a 5 star. 1500 may be a tad much but at 1200-1300 i believe its still very worth that.

Being a OLED panel, the colors are vibrant and the viewing angles are awesome. Also a super thin and sleek looking monitor. I am impressed with the performance of this monitor. Only complaint is there is a bug with displayport that will sometimes not wake up the monitor after windows was in sleep mode. This is fixed by using an hdmi cable instead.

Wow! Bought a open box in good condition and came with every thing with box and all the accessories, no scratches just a perfect looking open box monitor. For under $600 I nearly felt like i stole this monitor at this price.
Coming from a 27 inch 1440p this Ultrawide 34 inch is mind blowing every time I use it for gaming. Seriously the most beautiful monitor I've used and I've used high refresh rate panels up to 240hz and this Samsung G8 OLED is no comparison on how amazing everything looks and the 10 Bit HDR gorgeous display with 175hz refresh rate is plenty fast for any game out there.
If you're worried about burn in this G8 has all the preventive measures such as Pixel Shift so nothing is static on the screen for long periods of time, it's moving those pixels around and you don't even notice it while in usage. Also whenever you're monitor is off or in standby it does it magic of Pixel refreshing and clearing any image retention if it detects any at all. Plus it also has a Logo Brightness option you can adjust between off, low and high for any images that are on the screen such as overlays, subtitles, or just small logos taking up the screen.
Love the smart features inside the monitor so I'm able to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime whenever I need to and get the best quality for movies and shows. But that's just icing on the cake this monitor is just meant to be gaming on HDR with it's immersive 34 inch Ultrawide screen. If you want the best HDR gaming experience this is hands down the best monitor out right now. I still can't believe I got this monitor for the price I did.

Even at 50% brightness, this oled looks just as good as my miniled monitor.
PROS:
Bright HDR and color reproduction.
Fast and responsive.
Smart TV options.
Speakers are passable.
Lots of options for calibrating the screen.
Elegant and stable stand.
CONS:
Smart TV options are nice, but not overly responsive. I dont use them, as I use the apps through my PC.
No swivel on the monitor.
It's more of a smart tv than a monitor. I turn it off/on when starting or shutting down the pc.
The remote is pretty basic, but is needed to really use the monitor.

Samsung G8 vs LG 45 OLED

I have had the chance to use both monitors. If you are considering these two and not sure about them. Take my review into consideration. If you are looking for super bright, vivid colors, and want the best HDR brightness. Go with the G8. Clarity with the 3440x1440 doesnt hurt this monitors ppi too much. You dont notice too much even when using for work. In my opinion the QD-OLED panel is supurb. Samsungs burnin mitigation will do its thing. Once in a while you will notice the image move 1 px. Also if you have the ability, make sure you enable HDR in your windows display settings and adjust your brightness. I turned it up to 90% and it's insane how games like Fortnite look. I only returned this one for the LG 45 OLED becuase of an open box deal. I actually kind of miss the G8. The LGs brightness is lacking and the same 3440x1440 hurts it. My only complaint is the monitor does not sense input, I have a Mac Mini connected via Thunderbolt 4 and my PC on the mini Display port. It does not automatically wake or change inputs. I have to use the IR remote. The OSD is also slow.

I came from the G8 neo 4k monitor which was nice but 240hz in 4k is super hard to hit with my 3090 and 12900k so i feel this monitor was the perfect choice for size, 175hz and not being 4k so i can push more frames in demanding games. And not to forget that OLED is king and nothing comes close.

I am coming from a Samsung G7 4k 144hz. There is obviously a loss of resolution here, but IMO its worth it. The colors and the wide view in games is way more immersive!! Not too mention there is built in smart features and over the air updates which is huge! My only con would be Samsung using mini display port and mini HDMI for their connections. Not sure what they're thinking was behind this but they don't even include one in the box. Easily solve through Amazon but at the price it is sold do you think it would come with everything you need. That said this monitor is absolutely amazing, and if you can catch it on sale I got it for 1100 and it's totally worth it!!!

From a gamers perspective you can hardly do better than this picture quality but leaves a few things to be desired in other areas. The picture is amazing, deep inky blacks and very vibrant otherwise. The 175hz is only in game mode which has to be on with hdr and in my experience every time I tab out of my game the screen goes black for two seconds and comes back to life. It could be the choice from Samsung to use mini DisplayPort (which is incredibly hard to find a high quality cable at longer lengths) or just the monitors hdr setting. But turn game mode off and it works fine, you’ll just be stuck in 120hz which is annoying.
The monitor has a stunning design and is very eye pleasing but noticing right out of the box the glossy coating is going to be a problem. It looks like there are a few spots bubbling only after a month.
The monitor is loaded with same ui that’s on their tvs which to me is pointless and rather annoying when you have a Samsung tv or in my case two monitors and a tv in the same room. Anytime I use the tv remote both monitors go into the ui and start navigating around just as my tv does. And when I navigate one monitor with the supplied remote they both start navigating around the menus. So looks like all the remotes are in the same frequency.
With such a beautiful design I ended up buying two for my gaming setup, which unfortunately looks like I may have to return due to my issues. I think if they treated this monitor more as a monitor and not as a tv i could recommend it. But for now there are to many problems for me.

Stunning image quality
Beautiful design

Bubbling glossy coating
175 hz only in game mode

The ONLY thing that i dont like is that is has no hdmi. you need a micro hdmi to hdmi cord to be able to connect any console. and the cord best buy sells does not work. i went to micro center and a 4k cord works. the monitor has built in speakers, which was a must for me because most gaming monitors do not come with that. i hate wearing headphones for too long so this was a must. the 34 inch size is PERFECT size and the 49 inch is just too much for me. it has led lighting as well and its soo cool to look at. this was a great investment and a great price for how good this monitor is. ive had no problems with it.

I am completely serious when I say this monitor has made me tear up several times due to the beauty I witnessed with my very own eyes. I am so happy I bought this monitor. I play a lot of Apex Legends and it looks so good on ultra wide. The oled is simply amazing. Even the power on screen blows my mind seeing white text over basically a back void. It’s truly impressive how far we’ve come. Well done Samsung.
