While purchasing other items at Best Buy I saw this item on the shelf and realized its potential. Cloud backup is slow and restore is equally slow. This device gives me 8 Tb of storage and backups and restores are relatively fast. Having 2 USB ports, it also allows me to backup from 2 devices simultaneously.

The Best 8TB Drive!! Huge Capacity, Small Price

This is one of the best Hard Drives I have had, this Seagate Has 8TB of data which about 7451GB is Free Available Space (if it's in NTFS File System) I have had it for a year now and It's still going strong.
If you have a lot of data to back up and want the biggest Hard drive, you should get this one, this drive uses a power brick which is not portable ofcourse but you get a Huge Capacity.
The Speed it's Good, I usually get around 30-70 MBs/Second while backing my data from other drives.
It has a light indicator, but it's only to let you know if it's On/Off.
Notes: The Drive takes some 5-8 seconds to load when first plugged in, but that's normal, don't worry, and when you disconnect it from your PC it takes about 10 seconds to fully power off so you can safely move it around. The noise is not big so it's quiet, and the two USB ports on the hub are great to charge devices.
****One Huge advice: If you decide to buy this Drive, know that you are getting a great drive BUT DON'T rely on it enterely, like you should have at least another place where your data is backed up too, just in case this one fails unexpectedly, since most Hard drives will fail eventually (statistics say that most drives will last 2-3 Years or even more depending on their use and care), so you should get another drive to back your data, not only this one. That's the best recommendation I could offer you, take care of your Data by having it copied in at least 2-3 different places.
This would be the best way to protect All of your precious Data:
Have a copy of all your data on:
1: This or any other Hard Drive/SSD.
2: A Second Hard drive, with the same Capacity.
3. A cloud (Internet) backup in case of a fire, earthquake, robbery, etc.
That's the best Backup Plan I can give you, other than that, enjoy this huge 8TB Seagate Hard Drive :)

I wanted a good local backup solution with lots of storage. The Seagate - Backup Plus Hub 8TB fits the need. Easy installation, USB 3.0 speed, 8TB of NTFS space immediately recognized on my Win 10 computer. While it's great for backup, note that this is not appropriate for heavy R/W usage because the overlapping track layout means that adjacent tracks must be rewritten when new data is written. Also doubles as an all-in-one data hub and recharging station.

I thought I was caught up with the latest storage devices as far as space goes. With all of the video editing I do, my 3 & 4TB units got maxed out and my two computer hard drives were packed! I needed space!! I went online to Best Buy and saw the Backup Plus 8TB unit by Seagate. I did some research and decided to give it a try. Glad I did! Easy install plus it has two USB ports to charge some of my other devices. Definitely worth the price!

I was a little apprehensive about buying this product. Some of the reviews on other Seagate external hard drives (the 6/8 TB size) left me a bit wary, and considering WD. I needed more space though, and already had several other external hard drives. I know how hard drives can be, and regularly back up my back ups. I am also using a USB hub, which I won't need now because this unit has one built in. My hope was that with this new external, I'd not only have plenty more storage, but could potentially get rid of the hub and clean up my messy cables. Although the description listed the ports as USB 3, I was slightly alarmed upon opening the package, and seeing black USB ports (which much more often signify USB 2, as opposed to the blue color that more typically comes with USB 3 ports/connectors). I fired up USBViewer and was relieved to find that they were reporting as USB 3 ports, and I also transferred some data to confirm that things were being transferred at USB 3 speeds. Fortunately, everything was fine. I was nervous about plugging in two other USB 3 external hard drives into the ports on the front, but the USB controller on it handled them fine. I've also read some worries about the Seagates getting hot, but even after a number of hours of continuous operation (transferring over 5 TB onto it), while it was a bit warm, it was not concerningly so (seemed to be reasonably in line with my WD drives after such use).

I've owned this hard drive for a few weeks now. It's very easy to set up. It has it's own plug in power source to keep it up and running smoothly. I stream media throughout the entire house and this Seagate 8TB has been an excellent upgrade. I no longer need to worry about which movies, music or photos are the most important... They ALL fit now. My only complaint would be that since it is advertised as designed 'FOR MAC' I'd like it to have a thunderbolt connection instead of a USB 3.

Great desktop drive. Perfect way to have a drive to sync data to USB drives on the desktop, and bring 2 USB drives to the desk and be able to see the blinking light on this drive. The huge capacity makes it great for media (Plex) or photo archiving, with the ability to plug in a smaller USB to take a couple shows on the road.

This is an 8TB external drive. I can finally merge several smaller drives into one drive. However it is only 5400rpm so it isn't a very fast drive. But for archiving and offloading files from my internal SSD, it works just fine. There is no ON/OFF switch so you cannot turn it OFF at will. it goes OFF when my laptop is either in SLEEP or HYBERNATE mode. I am not using any of the secure access features, Just using it as external storage/backup drive. The 2 USB ports on the front come in handy and I can connect my other external drives to it. Overall, this is a very nice 8TB external storage, especially for the price I paid ($167) during Thanksgiving Week. Best Buy shipped it super fast. I got it in my hands less than 48 hours after I ordered it online.

I got it for 230 from Bestbuy, who later made a low pain pricematch with TigerDirect when it was offered there for 180, so consider that a benchmark as of April 2017. In general, it meets the arc of larger capacity drives being cheaper per gigabyte, so as one of the largest drives on the market it is among the cheapest for data storage. Otherwise, it does its job of storing data and allowing easy access to it. I haven't bothered with using the USB ports much, and only use it with one computer. I do appreciate the lack of the mottled/ridged appearance both WD and Seagate have been using for some external hard drive lines recently.

Lots of drive space. Has 2 USB ports. Costs less than some other large external drives without a USB hub.
My only concern is, it's noisy and I don't like that it stands on its side instead of flat.

As a recording engineer for my local Public Radio station I need a lot of space to store archived audio. I filled a 2 terabyte drive in three years. The 8 terabyte Seagate backup + hub solves my storage problem while extending my USB inputs. It is fast as well as reliable for my purposes. I also store a respectable amount of video on the drive.
This would be the perfect drive to back up data from any small business or movie enthusiast.

The Seagate - Backup Plus Hub for Mac 8TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive:
1. Was very easy and quick to install.
2. Takes up very little room.
3. Works seamlessly with the Apple Time Machine software.
4. Makes clunky noises when backing up, but not too terribly loud.
5. Inexpensive peace of mind as an additional backup to my Apple Time Capsule.

Couldn't find a better product on the market than Seagate's USB 3.0 Backup Drive with the two USB 3.0 ports on the front of the product. My laptop only has two USB 3.0 ports since it's a slim and lightweight HP Spectre x360 15" (also purchased from BestBuy.com at a cost that was cheaper after taxes than online conglomerates / competitors) offered at the time and even to this day!). I researched the best 8TB USB 3.0 hard drive with the most cost effective and reliable reviews and ratings. Seagate wins over Western Digital, hands down. Drive is not loud during periods of heavy use / activity. I've had two drives, 8TB each, in use daily at home and my office...moved back and forth between both places too many times to count...my fault for not using a secure cloud storage solution, but realistically the cloud will never be the safest repository or most secure and conveniently available method for storing your data. A second backup off-site is simply a best practice. Using a locally-owned and accessible portable device like this one for your primary archival or storage solution for your system backups is convenient and secure. I used the built-in/pre-provided Seagate Backup software to backup my other smaller portable hard drives and my 6 desktops and laptops! The application encrypts data using Dept. of Defense encryption algorithm algorithms like 512-bit or 1024-bit AES or Blowfish at 132 MB/s at the cost of $200 on sale is a best buy, hands down. Thanks guys. Honest review by a very picky, critical techies in the IT workforce industry.

The Seagate 8TB Back Up Plus Hub was the perfect solution I was looking for for my media library.
Not only it has a large capacity of 8TB, but the additional 3.0 USB included makes it perfect for my needs.
The only drawback to me was the external hard drive is a bit noisy and not silent like others I have experienced.
Overall, an excellent product from Seagate.

The hub seems slow but I wanted it for capacity not speed.
These super large drives present an interesting problem. They keep a lot of stuff in one place. If they break then they toast a lot of stuff at the same time. So you need to balance access to a lot of stuff and getting a second or third to back each of them up.
Works fine. Lasts a long time. Won't rust Won't bust. A product you can trust.

I normally avoid Seagate, but thought I'd give this a spin seeing the size of the real estate and the price. I've been pleasantly surprised. It's fast, offers itself as a USB hub and there's a ton of storage in that box. When the TB's are used up, I'd buy another one.

Using this drive for backups. I work primarily from a laptop, so the build in hub feature is handy. It's faster than most other consumer usb 3.0 drives I've used in the past. G-Drives are faster tho, if you want to spend the money.
