Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the gameplay, story, action sequences, and controls of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. However, some players find the game's difficulty challenging, citing a steep learning curve and demanding boss fights as potential drawbacks. A few also mentioned frame rate inconsistencies. Overall, the positive feedback on the core gameplay mechanics outweighs the concerns regarding difficulty.

Even the shadows kill you. Very difficult but satisfying kills once you get used to the dance. Some great action sequences and story considering. I wish I had more time to get involved in games like these.

If you have bought this you have probably played or are familiar with From Software titles. This game is HARD, it is a different style of challenge than the usual blood/souls games. Hardest title from them thus far IMHO.

I've played all the souls games, bloodborne etc this game and its parry/posture/breaking mechanic is really good love the clash of steel sound plus flash, visuals and sound the usual FromSoftware Why not excellent though? well first off the camera is an angry donkey you'll be fighting with a lot and another is there are a couple jankey jumps and grabs that are infuriating to make PS Sword Saint is really that you'll see enjoy LOL

As a huge fan of Souls games Sekiro is awesome. It's hard. Really freaking hard. It's also very rewarding when you finally get passed a difficult opponent or area. The visuals and gameplay are great. A nice bonus is, unlike Souls games, it has a decent story that unravels. Wolf is a good character with cool upgrades. The enemies all have unique characteristics and you'll need different strategies to take them on. My only complaint is sometimes the main bosses crank it up all the way to 11 in terms of difficulty. It actually gets my blood pumping and feels so good when I finally beat them! I don't like COD or those kinds of games I'll take a great action-adventure like this.

Picked this up purely because I am a dark souls fan. Was worried it would be too much of the same. Gameplay feels familiar yet is new at the same time. Other dark soul fans will know what I’m talking about. Enjoying the story and the new dynamics of the game play. Recommend this to anyone looking for a challenging game that will frustrate you while also giving you are rewarding and fulfilling gameplay experience.

If you're looking for a challenge, this is the game for you. If you have played other From software titles like Dark souls out blood borne, there is a bit of a learning curve. The key to winning is less of a passive-dodge-attack method, and more of an aggressive-deflect-attack method which only makes you feel all be the more powerful as a player. This also has really great shots in it. My only inside with the game is that I wish there was more of an rpg element to the game where you could obtain different swords that have different stats. Or change your appearance for at least the sake of cosmetics. But other than that gameplay is solid and good luck.

While I'm a From Software newbie, having been intimidated by their previous efforts, the aesthetic and the setting really pulled me into this one. Also, I've always had a bit of FOMO with From Soft games, wanting to be in the conversation, but too fearful to try. Sekiro is a masterpiece. Is it incredibly difficult? Yes. One boss took me a literal two weeks to defeat. TWO. WEEKS! But the highs that come from finally getting that last deathblow on an incredibly tough enemy is where the addiction comes from. I finally see what all the fuss is about with From Software games - and immediately purchased Bloodborne as a follow up. If you're curious, give this a shot. Learn the system and try it. Maybe it won't completely click -- but stick with it until you beat a difficult boss. If it still doesn't click then? Maybe it just ain't for you. Me? I've just spent another week bashing my head against the Guardian Ape - and all I'm thinking about is strategy on how to take it down.

Really satisfying experience. The combat, level design, and story were all top notch. This game subtly teaches you how to become better, and there's nothing more rewarding than finally beating a boss after numerous tries.

Would give 3.5 stars if I could; I'm rounding up out of good faith. But, to put it simply, I'm torn on this game. Sekiro is a major step forward for FromSoftware, coming on the heels of Dark Souls 3. Swimming, jumping and climbing, the grapple hook, high speed movement and combat, and the lack of stamina limitations all combine to make this game a wonderfully different experience from Miyazaki's previous adventures while still feeling comfortably familiar. Thanks to all the mechanical improvements with character movement and kit, exploration is a blast. The world, though somewhat lacking in the visual variety we've come to expect of FromSoft, is nigh-labyrinthian and is the first to fold back in on itself the magical way Dark Souls 1's world did. There's danger around almost every corner, all kinds of interesting little nooks to discover, and lots of items to grab. The prosthetic tools add another layer of reward, too. Exploration is always worth your time and always enjoyable and exciting. The problem is the boss fights. They're all terribly unintuitive while also having simple tricks for winning (such as constantly walking left, or simply dodging a particular attack and poking for some damage ad nauseum). The intended methods of approach to boss fights also run counter to how both the game and the marketing suggests you play. In the tutorial section, taking your own approach and scoring creative stealth and sneak kills is encouraged. The movement abilities and grapple hook reinforce this. The marketing taglines "kill ingeniously" and such also echo this mentality. But boss fights are a totally separate and alien affair where you're expected to face the enemy head on and apparently get your teeth kicked-in repeatedly until you either accidentally figure out the key to beating the baddie, or you break down to the point of looking up a guide online. My issue is how Sekiro differs from the Soulsborne games in this regard. I played those past games blind and made my way through the boss fights just fine, because those game's bosses gel with the rest of each respective game's gameplay. Sekiro's bosses being so different from the rest of its gameplay only makes for a frustrating and confusing experience. My last note will be about the visuals: even on base PS4, the game is graphically stunning. This is easily FromSoft's best visual work in terms of technical execution. I would say the art direction in Bloodborne is superior, but Sekiro is beautiful throughout, and the inclusion of actual daylight is a breath of fresh air we only got a slight taste of with the Dragon Shrine in Dark Souls 3. So all-in-all, Sekiro is pretty impressive despite also being irritating. I've found it a mostly enjoyable experience if you're willing to accept clues as to how to beat the bosses. The high points of exploration and visual fidelity mostly make up for my distaste for the unintuitive boss fights. It's a solid buy at $40 ~ $45 if you're patient and looking for another Miyazaki game to loose yourself in. Maybe it actually does deserve four stars after all . . .

I played Demon's Souls because I wanted a challenge. I didn't think they'd make a more challenging game, but they did. However, while this is more difficult it is not as punishing. Great graphics and story either way!

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is not a SoulsBorne game in terms of mechanics. It is unforgiving which is the commonality between the FromSoftware games. And your patience will be pushed to the edge with Sekiro but it is so WORTH it. Upon defeating a boss, you will sit back and relish their defeat. And then soon after you will anxiously move forward to see what awaits in the new area that has opened up as a result of the defeat of said boss. What I really liked about Sekiro is that it allows the player room to breathe compared to past games like Bloodborne or a Dark Souls game. If you're feeling pressed by an enemy, you can flip backward, dodge sideways or sometimes grapple to temporary safety. That said, Sekiro rewards you for being aggressive and having quick reflexes. Basically, you have to unlearn what you were taught from Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Your muscle memory will adjust and in no time, you will be aggressively slaying enemies that had destroyed you an hour before. The visuals of Sekiro are breathtaking. Not since Bloodborne have I been this impressed with the landscape in a FromSoftware game. If you're like me, you're going to explore every nook and cliffside that lead to secret areas. And there are PLENTY of secrets. And yes, Sekiro isn't an RPG like other FromSoftware games but you are encouraged to upgrade your side abilities which there are a lot to choose from. So, sharpen your blade, take a deep breath and prepare for an emotionally taxing adventure that will be worth the rage.

Pros: - exhilarating combat - movement feels wonderful - (mostly) great boss fights - beautiful aesthetic - brilliant sound design - just the right level of challenge Cons: - story is a bit disappointing - less replayability compared to other From games - No multiplayer (if that matters to you) - feels a little light in terms of content Overall, Sekiro is probably my favorite Fromsoft game. One thing to note is that Sekiro DOES NOT play like a traditional soulsborne game. So if you go into Sekiro expecting souls, you might be disappointed.

Although I am still only in the early stages of the game, Sekiro is already becoming an amazing spiritual successor to the legend that is Dark Souls. Veterans of that series will quickly realize that although Sekiro is Dark Souls and Bloodborne's successor, the same formula of playstyle in those games cannot be applied to Sekiro. The AI can be brutally cunning and does not allow for many mistakes. The toughness of the game may turn casual players off, but the satisfaction of overcoming Sekiro's punishing and yet visually stunning world is tremendous.

Sekiro is a game that is chock full of enemies ready to cut you down. Luckily for you, and unlike the Soul series you don't have a stamina bar, so you can block with near impunity! Master the art of the parry and you shall win the day. It also looks fantastic which is a definite plus and the stealth is made all the sweeter by the fact that you sneak up and take down enemies as a ninja who wears ORANGE, dattebayo! If you haven't picked this already and don't mind the challenge (death is your constant companion in this game) it is worth the price.

    A Great Yet Challenging Game

Sekiro's reputation as a challenging game became well-known the moment it was released. It is definitely warranted, however, underneath that brutal difficulty is some of the best action in a long time. While sharing many similarities with FromSoftware's popular Dark Souls series, Sekiro is different in how you should approach each combat scenario. Instead of being patient and dodge-rolling like crazy, your best bet is to stay aggressive and in your enemy's face, trading strikes and parrys back and forth at lightning-quick speeds. If you have patience and can appreciate overcoming frustrating bosses, you will be rewarded.

The game is amazing! Graphics fidelity is incredible and gameplay is difficult. This game brings me back to the days of old, when video games challenged you both mentally and physically. You had to learn the patterns and level design if you were to succeed. The same is true here. Only the true gamer will the see this game through to the end. If you’ve played any of the dark souls games you know what you’re getting into. However, the one thing that is missing is online cooperation. If that feature was here this game would be game of the year.

First of all, I need to say that this is my first From Software game...and I love it. It's so refreshing to have a game that doesn't hold your hand the way modern games do. You don't upgrade weapons, you'll finish the game with the same sword. The fighting system is truly amazing and very rewarding. Don't get me wrong go into a fight against even a non-boss enemy and you could get into trouble. But that's what makes it so great. The graphics are top notch and it has a good soundtrack as well. All in all, if you'd like a challenge then look no further than Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
