----- SUMMARY ----- Verdict: Every living space is unique, so there shouldn’t be a “one-size-fits-all” approach to home security. SimpliSafe does an excellent job providing you with a variety of sensors and cameras to build your own custom security system, and the DIY setup process is easy. This 12-piece security kit helps ensure your whole home is covered inside and out, and additional sensors or cameras can be added as you see fit. Based on my experience so far, I feel confident that each sensor and camera works reliably well. Its versatility, ease of use, and performance make this SimpliSafe kit an ideal choice for whole-home indoor and outdoor security. Pros: - Quick, simple installation - System is controllable via a mobile app - Outdoor cameras are wireless - Indoor and outdoor cameras have great video quality - Sensors are reliable - Quick response from 24/7 monitoring center Cons: - Indoor camera isn't wireless ----- DETAILS ----- Unboxing & Setup: This 12-piece kit is one of the most all-encompassing security packages I’ve seen from SimpliSafe. You can always add more sensors or cameras to it, but what’s included in this kit will satisfy most homes in terms of overall coverage (both inside and out). In the box, you’ll receive the base station, keypad, six entry sensors, a motion sensor, an indoor camera, and two outdoor cameras. There’s also a thorough owner’s manual, a yard sign, and window stickers. The SimpliSafe app (available for iOS and Android) is where you start the setup process. First, you’ll create an account and the app guides you through each step of the process. I applaud SimpliSafe for providing instructions specific to each component of the security system and for the level of detail. It was easy to follow, and I had everything set up in minutes. The only exception was waiting for the outdoor camera batteries to charge before I mounted them. It took a couple of hours for them to charge, but the batteries last 3-6 months on a single charge, depending on your usage, and settings. SimpliSafe App: When you open the SimpliSafe mobile app, the “Overview” tab is the first thing you see, and it puts the ability to arm or disarm your system at the forefront. Below that, you might see some motion history from your cameras, if there is any. Other tabs in the app include “Cameras”, which allows you to hop into a live view of any of your indoor and outdoor cameras, and “Timeline” which gives you a breakdown of events, such as when you armed/disarmed the system and when a camera detected motion. For the camera motion events, tapping on the event in the timeline will show you a recording. Notifications and a variety of other device settings like camera motion detection sensitivity can be managed in the app as well. It’s an easy-to-use interface that puts system management at your fingertips wherever you are. Outdoor Cameras: Mounting the outdoor cameras is simple. There’s a dome-shaped mounting bracket that you attach to the desired location using two screws, then the camera magnetically attaches. The design allows you to easily swivel the camera around to find the best angle. The one tricky part was finding the optimal location for the cameras. Several locations did not work well because of a poor Wi-Fi connection. There was some trial and error to find the right spot for each camera but afterward, the setup went smoothly. With 1080p resolution, the outdoor cameras capture clear and colorful video. At night, it automatically switches to night vision which you can choose to be infrared (black and white) or in full color with a spotlight. I like the spotlight option because it shines a bright light when motion is detected which could scare potential intruders away. Motion detection has been reliable during my tests, and you can customize the sensitivity in the app. There’s also two-way audio which allows you to hear what’s happening or broadcast your voice through the camera’s speaker. With high-quality video, night vision, and intelligent motion alerts, the SimpliSafe outdoor cameras are an effective way to keep an eye on your home. Indoor Camera, Sensors, and Other Features: Like the outdoor camera, the indoor camera offers 1080p resolution, night vision, two-way audio, and motion detection. In terms of features, not much is different from the outdoor cameras. The main differences are that one is designed for outdoors and is weatherproof, and the other is not. For peace of mind, there’s also a privacy shutter on the indoor camera that you can set to automatically cover the lens when you’re at home. I just wish the indoor camera was wireless like the outdoor camera so that it could be placed in locations that aren't near an outlet. The entry sensors are ideal for doors and windows, and the motion sensor is ideal for any key areas where an intruder could pass through. I initially worried that the motion sensor would detect my cat when I’m away with the system armed, but I haven’t had any issues. SimpliSafe says that it works great with pets up to 50 lbs, but they also recommend installing the motion sensor 6-10 feet off the ground with the test button on top for pets under 30 lbs. For pets over 30 pounds, they recommend installing it button-side down, about 4 feet off the ground. Whether it's the entry sensors or the motion sensor, each mounts easily with the already attached adhesive tape. Just peel the paper backing off and stick them in the desired location. By default, they will trigger the alarm but you can set up “Secret Alerts” in the app as well. “Secret Alerts” is a neat feature that sends you a text, email, or push notification when a sensor is triggered but doesn’t alert the monitoring center or sound an alarm. Perhaps there’s a drawer or cabinet that shouldn’t be accessed by children. You could use an entry sensor that triggers a secret alert upon opening. Monitoring: With SimpliSafe’s monthly plans, you pay to have 24/7 monitoring and dispatch, and other features, like allowing the monitoring center to access your camera feeds (with your consent) for visual verification and priority police dispatch. The plans are described well on SimpliSafe’s website, so I won’t cover all the details here. However, you can choose to forego the monitoring plans and keep track of your system yourself. Again, details on what you do and don’t have access to are listed on SimpliSafe’s website. My experience with a 24/7 monitoring plan has been great. When I had a false alarm, I promptly received a call from the monitoring center, and when I told them it was a false alarm, they still asked for my safe word to confirm it was actually me. The person who called me was kind and courteous as well. ----- WHAT’S IN THE BOX ----- 1 x Base Station 1 x Keypad 1 x Indoor Camera 2 x Outdoor Cameras 6 x Entry Sensors 1 x Motion Sensor 1 x SimpliSafe Yard Sign with Stake 2 x SimpliSafe Decals/Stickers 1 x Owner’s Manual

This home security system has been a blessing since day one. In the past I had used the 100% hard wired solutions that have been the go-to until the recent wireless times. This kit involves little to no screws too and can nearly completely be set up without a screwdriver. As most pieces of this bundle have adhesive backing, it really makes the process smooth. The companion app that manages all of these pieces is very intuitive too and really walks through the management process of this system. As mentioned above, this system comes with every piece a medium sized house needs to cover all access points, both internal and external. It comes with several indoor and outdoor cameras, 6 door entry access points, a motion sensor as well as the deterring yard signs to let everyone know your home is covered. The keypad is also very easy to use, while arming and disarming the home. The base station needs a clean line of sight to the sky as it acts as your mobile access point too, which, out of the entire process has the potential to be the most annoying part, depending on the design of your home. The only addition to this set that i would add would be an additional external camera, it feels that 2 is adequate but 3 would give much better coverage. All in all, if you are looking for a home security system that is mobile friendly, has a great intuitive companion app and can easily be expanded in an ala cart fashion, then I would highly recommend this as a solution to your needs as set up is easy and it delivers on what is promised!

Complete package. Do It Yourself Setup. Nothing could be easier. This is the system for you if you want 24/7 monitoring and DIY install. In this set you get 12 pieces which include one Base station, one keypad, six entry sensors, one motion sensor one, indoor camera, and two wireless outdoor cameras. This is more than enough to get you started with a home security system. You will start by downloading the app to your mobile phone. The app will guide you through the setup and installation process. The app is fantastic and really does a nice job of walking you through the installation steps for each specific item. You want simple? Then go with Simplisafe. The name says it all. They have worked hard to keep tusk simple for the end user and I applaud their efforts. Well done. The design of the unit and all the prices is nice. White casing and sleek designs. Should blend in and match most decors. Our doors and windows are white so they really blend in nicely. You forget they are event here. The system is expandable. You can easily add other Simolisafe products/accessories as needed down the road to fit your specific needs. I do appreciate the keypad is a separate unit. Some systems the keypad is sort of the base station which limits where you can place it. Here the key pad is separate from the base station so you can place it where you are most likely to access it.

Simple & Secure DIY Home Security

SimpliSafe's 12-Piece Whole Home Kit contains all you need to build your own home security system. The 12-piece system comes with the SimpliSafe Base Station (STR-10023), a keypad, 2 wireless outdoor security cameras, 6 entry sensors (for doors or windows), an indoor SimpliCam, a motion sensor, a yard sign, yard sign ground stakes, and SimpliSafe window decals. Additional pieces can be purchased directly from SimpliSafe and installed at a later time as well. To begin the installation, you first need to install SimpliSafe's mobile app and create an account. After creating an account, you are prompted with security monitoring packages, each with several convenient options, depending on your specific security needs. To highlight their 2 primary plans from lowest to highest in service offerings and price, the Self Monitoring with Camera Recording plan includes viewing unlimited camera recordings for up to 5 cameras and notifications of your system sent to your phone or their Interactive Monitoring plan includes police dispatch and video verification (SimpliSafe team can verify if the alarm is a false alarm). All SimpliSafe plans are less than $30 a month, allow you to cancel anytime, and do not require signing up for a contract. After choosing a package, you are then prompted to setup your security devices. On the mobile app, you are able to select the specific device you'd like to setup and the app walks your through the steps you need to take to complete the device's setup. This made it extremely easy to setup and I personally did not experience any hiccups throughout my time setting up each security device. I loved how easy it was to setup all devices and if I did have a question, each device has a video to walk through the setup as well. Now for information on the devices. The SimpliSafe Base Station has the option to use cellular signal (available with the a Interactive Monitoring plan) for system updates and police dispatch as well as your home Wi-Fi. For power, it is able to work from the included AC adapter or from battery power (AA batteries) in case it is disconnected or if the power in your home goes out. As a security system, these options are nice to have. If interested in ordering more sensors, its important to note that although the base station looks like the Gen 2 model, it supports the Gen 3 accessories. Additionally, SimpliSafe supports 3rd party smart assistant controls and has the ability to arm the system through voice commands. To have smart assistant controls such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, you will need to be under SimpliSafe's Interactive Monitoring plan. SimpliSafe's indoor SimpliCam camera is a 1080p HD camera and I noticed it worked well both in daylight and during the night. Specifically regarding it's night vision, it can recognize a figure while at night and will send a notification when it detects motion while the alarm is set in away mode. One of my favorite features of the indoor camera is that it has a Privacy Shutter feature. This allows for the camera to not actively monitoring you and closes its lens when not viewing the video live via the app or when home. Depending on the settings set for when away, at home, or off (not in use) modes, this feature can be activated. I noticed a few other things about the remaining devices that were nice additions. The entry/door sensor would reset the timer for the alarm to activate if it was set and you had to return inside your home if you forgot something (like I did). The motion sensor captured movement from over 23ft away, although it does not work well if angled. It's field of view was about 90 degrees when I tested it. Overall, I loved how easy it was to setup the security system. I recommend it for anyone looking to save money on their home security system. Not only was it super easy to install, but I found SimpliSafe's prices cheaper than the larger security system companies. While you do have to pay for the equipment up front, I found that after the first year, it pays for itself when compared to signing up with another security system provider.

    An Easy Home Security

We’ve used a more traditional security system for the last 15+ years but were looking at something that was a little more customizable while saving us some money. This checked all the boxes in what we were looking for. First and foremost, the installation process of this system is incredibly easy. Most of the installation can be done without tools, or with a Philips head screwdriver. If your outdoor cameras are going to be installed into brick or concrete, then you will need to use a drill. Since the entire kit, except for the indoor camera, run off batteries you don not need to run wiring. You download the app first and then setup the base station, the app walks you through step by step how to install all the various components. Most of the time it also includes little videos within the app on how to install it properly. You never leave the app to see how to do something. I did run across an issue with trying to setup the indoor camera on the Wi-Fi, but after moving closer to the router it was resolved. The two outdoor cameras are a very easy setup, once again just make sure you look at the live view to verify that your network reaches to where you are tying to install it. I ended up doing part of the installation on different days, but the entire installation process took less than an hour. Most of the installation process was just trying to determine where to setup the cameras, but once we made up our minds it was simple. A neat feature SimpliSafe has once you have installed your system is that your system is under practice mode. They give you 3 days to get acclimated to your new system before they would start notifying police immediately if your alarm is triggered. Say you didn’t realize that your doggo would set off the motion sensos when in Away mode, you will get to try it out before having to deal with safe words and calls. The software is easy to use with 3 main buttons to toggle between alarm modes: off, home, and away. If you have used an alarm system before then these should be familiar. We use Android and iPhones in my home, and I really love the widgets that are available on Android, I hope they bring those to iOS soon. The software is robust when it comes to the installation process, but simple once you are just setting alarms or monitoring your cameras. SimpliSafe also offers Google and Alexa integration so that you can use those assistants to set your alarm, but they will not disarm them for you. I could easily recommend this system for anyone looking to customize their home security and save some money. The setup is laid out to you step by step and can be mostly done with just a Philips head screwdriver, and most cases without tools at all. No running of wires at all, just setup and plug in to an outlet. It gives me everything I received from my previous alarm system at a fraction of the cost. We will end up saving more than 50% off our previous security system cost. Go get this.

A System That Could Have Been A Contender

As a whole, the SimpliSafe 12-Piece Whole Security Kit is a technologically sound home security system that offers its users, out of the box, a very good monitoring system. But there are some issues that make this system a bit “iffy.” The system comes packaged quite well...more than able to withstand the rigors of today’s parcel delivery services. Each component comes packaged in its own self-contained carton so there isn’t any chance of pieces banging and clashing together. The kit comes with a base station, keypad, six entry sensors that can be used for doors and windows, an indoor camera, and two outdoor cameras, and all the necessary cables and charger. After laying everything out, it was simply a matter of following the user’s guide to get everything installed. This required downloading the SimpliSafe app which is mandatory in order to install the different components. Once the keypad and base station are installed, everything else is installed through the app. Entry sensors were quite simple, as were the outdoor cameras. Now, I did not mount the outdoor cameras to the house, but left them free-standing, so this was actually extremely easy as well. SimpliSafe does offer the option to hard-mount the cameras using a screw-out base that can be attached using two screws. I placed the keypad just inside the front door using the double-sided tape attached to the back of the unit. This is a stand-alone keypad that is powered by four AA batteries. The motion sensor can also be mounted using the attached double-sided tape, but I opted not to use it, but let it stand on a hard surface. After everything was installed and placed where I wanted, it was time to test it all out. The keypad does require a pass code in order to arm and disarm the system. There are three modes: Off, Home, and Away. Arming and disarming are as easy as pushing a button on the keypad. When disarming, you simply enter the pass code. If it is not entered correctly, the alarm goes off, and if you have a paid subscription plan, the appropriate actions are taken according to the settings of the particular paid plan you opted for. As I messed around with the app, I was able to view each cameras field of view. The outdoor cameras offer great resolution, and also allow night-time viewing, which is particularly good resolution as well. The indoor camera is very good, and offers a very wide field of view. So far, unpacking, preparation, installation, setup and operation were all simple and easy. SimpliSafe deserves a huge round of applause for putting so much thought and effort into making the installation and setup almost fool-proof. If it was so easy for me, I know anyone can do it. But now for the iffys I mentioned. As I said, out of the box the SimpliSafe home security system offers the user a great monitoring system. And that’s it. When I tested the system, I was alerted almost immediately via the SimpliSafe app that camera motion was detected, or that a sensor was activated. This is all well and good, but you do not get a visual of what set off the system. In order to see what set off the video alerts, you must log into the app, and then go through the wait time of having the camera wake up and finally give you a visual of what is going on at home. The waking and accessing the video feed takes several seconds, and in a break-in situation, that can be almost an eternity. I was blown away by the fact that SimpliSafe chose to do this. On every other system I have used, an image was actually sent to my cell phone of the trigger event...whether it be a photo of a person, animal, sometimes even wasps and hornets. But all you get with SimpliSafe is an alert saying “Camera Motion Detected” along with a stick figure of a person. Also, all images are stored off-site. There is no option for saving photos to an SD card or other device at home. I can only imagine an event occurring when there is no wifi, or the phone service is down to one bar...or is non-existent. This feels like a strong-arm attempt to force purchasers of the home security system into purchasing a plan that ranges in cost from about “.33 cents a day” up to “..about .93 cents a day.” So many other systems offer the ability to record to a USB thumb drive, an internal SD or MicroSD card without having to sign up for any type of plan. So again, as a non-subscription stand-alone system, you are left with a rather pricey monitoring system that will not allow you to ever know who or what set off the system. That’s a real head-shaker at this price point. Although I would consider recommending this system to a friend or family member, I would do it with some hesitation.

    A Complete Home Security System!

SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Security Kit is a complete security system and installation is quick and easy. It took less than 30 mins to install the base, control pad, motion sensor, and entry alarms for all doors/windows. The packaging is excellent, and it came with a Base station, keypad, six entry sensors, a motion sensor, an indoor camera, two outdoor cameras, Batteries, Security Decals, a Yard sign, and 3 ft. Stake. Setup is easy by downloading the Simplisafe app from the App store. The instructions are very clear in the app and followed the steps by adding the base station first followed by entry sensors, motion sensors, and cameras. The design of the base is good, and the size of the entry sensors is very compact as well. There are many options under General Settings to adjust alarm siren volume, voice prompts, Base station light, Alarm Siren duration, Exit Delay, and Entry Delay for Home / Away modes. In Device settings, there are options to set Instant Trigger, change Alarm modes with Alarm, Secret Alert, and Disabled options. Under Camera settings, there are options to set camera behavior for Home / Away modes, Motion detection, Picture Quality (max 1080p), Night vision, and Status light. Privacy shutter is a nice feature to disable video during the home mode. The option to create an arming remainder is a great feature. I was able to rename the values by specific location in the keypad so that they can be identified which is open or closed. I was able to install the outdoor cameras and installation was a breeze. The video quality is outstanding for both indoor and outdoor cameras. The night color vision is great. If you’re looking to do all the home monitoring on your own, you can do it for free with this system, but the features will be very limited. It will allow you to arm and disarm from the app, get to see a timeline of events (arming/disarming, doors opening/closing, camera detections), and option to view a live feed of your cameras, but camera detections will not come with corresponding recordings. The interactive Monitoring plan includes 24/7 Police Dispatch, Unlimited Camera Recording, 24/7 Fire & Medical Dispatch, Video Verification, 24/7 Flood & Extreme, Temperature Monitoring, Subscription lifetime warranty, and Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings plan has Unlimited Camera Recording and up to the 1-year total warranty. It is a perfect product for those who don't have an existing pre-wired for home security system. SimpliSafe provided products to satisfy those user needs with competitive pricing to enable home security.

I have always had security camera’s thinking that with the notifications that they send me will give me peace of mind, that was until our house was broken into from an area the cameras didn’t cover. In steps SimpliSafe, Our new system has a keypad for by the front door, six door sensors and a motion sensor, two external camera’s and an inside camera. Set up was a breeze, plug in the base, set up each sensor, then set up the cameras and your off and running. The system is also compatible with google home or Amazon Alexa, has a great app to arm and disarm from anywhere, see what set off your cameras, check on your pets from the inside camera and much more. The Motion Sensor can be set to a lower or higher sensitivity, if you have pets. There is a home setting which sets the system for outside cameras and door sensors, but the motion sensor is off. I love the fact that the base unit dings whenever a sensor is opened, I can hear it all throughout the house. You can set up silent alerts if you have a sensor on a room or a cabinet that needs to be monitored. We have a hall closet that we keep some valuables in and have a sensor in case a house guest wanders into the closet. You can also share alerts with friends and family when you are away so they can keep tabs on your notifications and cameras without an issue. I am starting to travel more and will feel comfortable knowing that I have a multi-level security system protecting my house and loved ones.

Easy to set up the base station, keypad, door sensors, smoke detector (purchased separately), and internal camera. However, the two external cameras did not connect with the WiFi - I spent literally two hours with the customer service rep on the phone having him walk me through various steps. In the end he said the cameras are defective (seriously, both of them?) and that I can‘t use them.

The system seems really great. It setup very easily. I had a delay in setting the system up by a couple weeks. I set everything up but did not mount the outside cameras yet. After 10 days one camera was dead. I spoke with SimpliSafe and they recommended swapping the battery with my second camera which I did then mounted. After a week the battery is dead again. It appears the camera is staying active after event detection. Best Buy policy is strictly good for only two weeks. I contacted SimpliSafe for support and they have no record of this sale or they would replace it. Best Buy has been no help and apparently has no leverage with this vendor. Buy the system yes, just not from Best Buy

We love simplisafe. This is a replacement of our original simplisafe system which is about 5 or 6 yrs old

We had one at our old house and loved it. I bought this for my mom. It gives us peace of mind knowing she's more secure. She's 80 and it was easy for her to figure oit how to use it.

My son set this up on one day. The costumer service was a big help and they will walk you through the setup as well. We bought everything including the solar panels for the outside cameras & other extras. We registered the alarm system with the police department and we're good to go. Super easy to safeguard your home.
