Stream Sonos content over an existing stereo.

This device allows you to stream Sonos content over an existing stereo system. It also allows you to add an external music source to Sonos via analog RCA stereo inputs. I had no trouble adding the Connect to my existing Sonos Network which consists of a Bridge, Play1, Play3, and Play5.
I use a Bridge for two reasons, to activate SonosNet and to activate the Ethernet ports on my players for use as web enabled uplink ports. Plugging an Ethernet cable into one of your players will accomplish the same thing and eliminate the need for a Bridge, but that was not an option for me. If you plan to use a Sonos uplink port it is advisable to use a standard CAT5 or CAT5e network cable with your third party device rather than the flat Ethernet cable that Sonos provides. I'm using an AirPort Express for AirPlay into my Play5 and the AirPort will not maintain a consistent network connection with a Sonos flat Ethernet cable connected to the Play5’s uplink port. The AirPort maintains a perfect connection with a CAT5 cable connected to the same uplink port.
I am sending audio to my existing stereo via the RCA analog output ports on the Connect and it sounds good. The D/A converter in the Connect seems to be of acceptable quality. You also have the option of bypassing the D/A converter by using either the optical or coax digital outputs, but that was not an option for my existing stereo setup.
I'm happy with the system's performance but I am deducting 1 star for the device’s white color and high price. I swapped the included white cables for black cables but the Connect still looks odd sitting in a cabinet with all black stereo equipment. I also think this device should sell for around $150, the current price of $350 is too high for what you get. To be honest, the only Sonos product that I feel is a good value is the $199 Play1. The other components are very expensive for what you get.

Purchased this to integrate my third party sub with my Sonos. Performed inconsistently. I had audio drop outs. I believe it is way overpriced for what it does. When it did work it was great. I returned the product and will consider purchasing it again when i can isolate it from the rest of my equipment to make sure there is no interference. I had this wired to my router so I couldn't understand why it was inconsistent.

I purchased this item in hopes of connecting my surround system to my Sonos ecosystem. It works well however it’s not as perfect as I would like it. The volume is a bit low but with some fine tuning you can adjust the volume on your receiver. My current system is a Marantz receiver with 5 BW’s and a LoganMartin sub. Overall I am very pleased.
I am current running my surround, 3 play 1’s in different rooms, and a Playbar in my master bedroom. Everything syncs in perfect harmony.
I would recommend to anyone who has a high end surround sound that wants to sync with Sonos products.

Great software to store and retrieve music. Communicates with Alexa giving you voice control of music to play and what speaker to play it on.
Difficult to set up. I had to call Sonos help desk.

I bought the Connect to incorporate my existing A/V system (a traditional receiver with two speakers and a subwoofer, connected to a 300-disc CD changer, Blu-ray player, 5-disc DVD carousel, and the "cable box") into my Sonos speaker system. This permits me to now listen to my music library from the A/V system (CDs, DVDs, music channels from the cable box) on the existing A/V system's speakers AND on any of the Sonos speakers I now have throughout the house. This is great because before I was limited to listening to my large collection of CDs in just one room where my CD changer and A/V setup was located.
I had been looking for a wireless speaker system, but Sonos is like manna from heaven because it is so much more than a simple wireless speaker system! So, I got exactly what I wanted for a wireless solution to extend my A/V system, but also everything that Sonos offers (its universe of music stations/selections, including your Pandora and other similar accounts).
Two things you want to make sure you understand before you get the Connect, however: 1) that you will actually be able to plug it into your A/V system in a way that lets you listen to whatever you want to through your A/V system. For example, your receiver will need an available line-out connection to push music into the Connect and to all of the Sonos speakers, AND you will need an available line-in connection to be able to use your A/V's speakers as part of the whole system (the latter is not required for functionality if you don't care about using it this way); and 2) the connect cannot actually control your A/V receiver or components - for example, I have to physically push play on my CD changer to start it up and the A/V receiver has to be configured properly for the components sound to be routed to the line-out connection going to the Connect. For these reasons, I strongly recommend you thoroughly review Sonos' online manual and its set-up descriptions to make sure it will work with your system the way you want it to.
Overall, a great product!

Hooked it up to the receiver of our whole-house sound system, joined it to our Wi-Fi network, and we were good to go. Everything is done via a phone/tablet, so the whole process is wireless, except for the physical audio connection to the receiver. It's an expensive product, but well worth it!
Only Downside: If you want to connect it to a different Wi-Fi network after you initially set it up, you have to physically hook it up to the new network's router via Ethernet. There should really be an option to "forget/delete" the existing network within the app and then be able to choose a different Wi-Fi network.

Finally, my Sonos sounds as good as my personal sound system. As much as I like and enjoy my Sonos speakers that are scattered throughout the house, nothing comes close to the sound system in the Living Room. The Sonos Connect works like a charm (It's controlled either by Amazon Echo or the Sonos app on my PC/smartphone). I cranked up the volume at the receiver and control the playback volume from the remote device. Alexa (Echo) can also grossly control the volume/ In any case, lots of flexibility, easy to set up, and the sound is excellent. A little pricey, but isn't everything audio that is any good a little pricey? Worth the money, go for it. You can always return it if you are disappointed but pretty sure you won't be.

The Sonos Connect does what I was hoping it would - integrate a stereo analogue line-level audio signal into the digital wireless multi-room system as well as through line level analogue outputs which allow playing through a standard stereo amp or powered speakers. The system introduces a 70 millisecond delay which ensures that the audio playing through said outputs will be in synch with the other speakers in the system, preventing any latency-echo between rooms. (Potential purchasers who might wish to use this system for live sound of any sort should bear this delay in mind..) My one beef with this system is that it won't function without the Sonos app being engaged every time you want to play music, which has to be set up again every time. I deducted one star for that and one more because the app just held me hostage without warning to an update which hijacked my access to the system for more than "a few minutes", then mysteriously granted me the use of itself again after making me wait for a password reset email which still hasn't come.. Not fun when I just want to play a record!!

I have an old but very good quality Yamaha Audio/Video Receiver and some built in wired speakers throughout my house. I now control this Receiver and these wired speakers with the new Sonos Connect along a new Play 1 wireless speaker. Everything sounds great and was easy to set up. My iPhone or my wife's iPhone can now play a wide variety of music in different rooms. Very satisfied.

My experience with Sonos speakers has been positive. I had been looking for a wireless method to have my music and music services such as iTunes, Pandora, Amazon music, and a few others to play in every room for a number of years. The Sonos ecosystem has this far worked perfectly for me. I already had a Play 1 and a Play 3 in other rooms. I was looking at the Playbar for my living room, but it seemed a bit pricey considering that I already have a functioning surround sound system. So, adding the Connect seemed like a no-brainer. The set-up was easy due to already having an existing Sonos network. The sound quality has been excellent too. Don't hesitate on this one if you're looking for a wireless method of connecting audio to every room in your house. You won't regret it!

I have three Sonos 1s, a Play 5, and now the connect. Easy setup like all the others. Only complaint are the limited options for hook up. That said, I made it work and can now stream the game throughout the house from my home system. All in about 10 minutes from in-boxing. As always, great sound and a great looking product wherever you put it.

It took a while to get my tower, lap top, tablets, and phones to hook up to the sonos, but with a little patience and reading the instructions, the sound that I get out of my stereo system rivals that of being directly hard wired to a dvd player. I'm a little surprised, but very pleased with this purchase.

Hooked to my home stereo system. More than easy setup. Can listen to any radio station, my TV, my DVD, my MP3 collection, basically anything and it plays through my home stereo speakers. Added a Play 1, 2 and 3 for upstairs of my home, garage and bedroom and can listen to anything on all speakers or can select individual speakers to play something else in another part of the home. I can listen in the garage to local radio and my wife uses her app to listen to her music collection in the house while doing daily activities. Does exactly what I want to do anywhere in the home as if I hard wired the entire house.

I use this in an existing home theater setup with speakers already installed in walls for music listening during dinner parties. The quick, easy setup and effortless control really set Sonos devices apart from the competition. It's spendy stuff, but there are no headaches involved!

I'm a long time Sonos fan and very early adopter. A Sonos system is so easy to set up and allows me to stream so many different formats of music though my house. This is my third Amp and I also have two different speakers. I would recommend Sonos to anyone who like their music

The Sonos Connect is living up to its reputation in my newly remodeled home. I have it in the closet of the guest bedroom and hard wired with channel switcher to speakers throughout the house. Anyone in the family can stream their music from their phone (one at a time of course). Phone calls and notification sounds don't block the sound. Range is fantastic on all 3 floors. Love the connection to Pandora and iTunes! My two nitpick a are with regard to Apple integration. 1. We have iTunes Match which allows for streaming of our entire iTunes library without having to download it to the phone, the only music however that Sonos recognizes are the songs that have been downloaded to the phone. 2. Apple Music (Apple's new subscription music service) currently does not work directly with Sonos Connect. I heard there was a work around by connecting it through Apple TV.

Have known about Sonos for a long time, and I finally had the chance to work with it at a relative's new house, and I was really impressed. I attached the Sonos Connect to the receiver for our whole-house music system, got it connected to our Wi-Fi network, and was up and streaming music in almost no time. The Sonos remote control app is simple and easy to use with only about a 10 minute learning curve. Great choice of music sources and radio stations, including satellite radio (if you already have a streaming subscription). I also connected my Airport Express router to the Sonos so that I can listen to my iTunes library through it via the Sonos line-in source using Apple's Remote app.
The only downside (sort of) is that Sonos products are pretty pricey, but they are definitely worth it.

I added in this Connect component along with a couple of Sonos wireless speakers, and now my small stereo system with two bookshelf speakers and a phonograph is suddenly able to provide full room sound and has access to Sonos' huge selection of online music. Very easy to install and set up (although the directions are quite limited in terms of any written material, everything is explained online, more or less). Great feature to be able to start up music from my computer, my smartphone, or a tablet if you have one, from anywhere your WiFi network is accessable. High quality sound, no issues with buffering or interruptions in the playback. You do have to route the phonograph through the Connect device in order to play your LP's, so at this point the receiver is really only a way to connect to the existing wired speakers, but at least this way I still get some use out of my older equipment. I would definitely recommend this solution.
