We've had many different brands of TV's over the years. We are very impressed with this latest Sony. Awesome 4k picture, great in daylight (no glare), and easy to use. Love the voice control function on the remote. Highly recommend.

Overall a great TV. Brightness levels are excellent so this TV would work well in a bright room. I have two issues with this set. The first is that the Android operating system can be slow at times. Doing simple things like changing the volume has a significant delay and navigating around the apps can be very slow. My other issue a little more serious in that the set uses edge lighting. There are two back-lights, one at the top and bottom. Instead of full-array lights that flood the whole panel, this one suffers from gradients at the top and bottom of the screen.

I recently purchased this Sony XBR65X930E as a replacement for an older Pioneer Elite plasma TV, taking a chance that I'd be as impressed with the black levels on the TV as the reviewers were. We recently moved and I needed a TV that could perform better in a living room with poor light control than my plasma TV. In spite of being a long-standing plasma (and now OLED) fan because of their great black levels, and even though the X930E is an edge-lit LCD, I am VERY impressed!
As the reviewers said, this TV a 'light cannon' (capable of over 1,300 nits - sustained) so it does an outstanding job in my living room, which has lots of ambient light during the day. Its light output also makes it an amazing TV for 4K HDR content!. Talk about 'pop'! The 4K images this TV generates are simply jaw-dropping.
Although I had planned to purchase an X900E since it is a FALD, I went with the (more expensive) X930E with its edge-lighting and Slim Backlight Drive Plus for several reasons:
1. Better black levels as mentioned above were supposed to be better than the X900E. I'm amazed that an edge-lit LCD can have such good black levels, without very noticeable (or distracting) blooming or haloing. (I watch TV at night in a totally darkened room with just a bias light behind the TV.)
2. Future Dolby Vision capability with a firmware update (as well a HLG capability). My 2016 OLED has Dolby Vision capability and, having seen Dolby Vision in action with streaming content, I'm convinced it's a great feature to have on a TV and provides a definite step up from HDR-10. I'm looking forward to seeing something 'substantial' with Dolby Vision on a 4K blu-ray.
3. This TV has an X1 Processor Xtreme, rather than the X1 Processor, like the X900E. This was important to me because I watch a lot of cable (a.k.a. horrible compressed signal) TV, and my LG OLED doesn't do as good a job as I'd like handling those poor quality cable signals, especially in darker areas of the image. The X1 Xtreme processor was attractive to me for this reason since it has a reputation for doing a great job of hiding compression artifacts, upscaling to 4K, and minimizing all that pesky countouring (banding) that I see frequently with cable content. The X930E didn't disappoint in this area. I was very impressed - once again!
Although it's just my wife and I watching at night, and we sit pretty much in front of the TV which is about 8 ft. away, I can just about start to see a hint of some shift in the picture when I look toward the extreme edge of the screen, but it's not bothersome to me at all (and certainly nothing like what I used to see with older LCDs!). So, yes, the X930E still has a problem with off-axis viewing (after about 15 degrees or so), but it's not the TV's fault - it's a short coming of the way LCD technology is implemented on most TVs. Surprisingly, this hasn't bothered me, or distracted me, one iota.
In spite of some Web posts saying that the Android interface on this TV (version 7.0) was slow, I've experienced absolutely nothing like that. It's extremely responsive and I haven't noticed any hang-ups or other problems. There really seems to be a LOT you can do in the Android App area and I haven't even explored a fraction of it yet. Sometimes the TV is a bit slow to switch between inputs/modes, but I'm not sure this is as much an Android problem as a problem with the TV in general.
The remote is not great, but usable. Perhaps I'm not used to it yet, but I find the remote a little cumbersome to use and a little anti-intuitive (at least for me). Maybe I haven't found it yet, but it would be nice to have a way to switch quickly between picture modes rather than having to go through the Action menus or through settings. Hopefully, there's a way to do this, but I haven't been able to find it yet, which leads me to the documentation and user guides...
I think the documentation that's supposed to support this outstanding TV is really terrible. It basically tells you nothing other than what you could find out by just poking around the menus yourself. I think it's a shame to have to search the Web to try and find out what some of the things on your own TV do! I can't fault Sony alone for this, however. It seems to be a very widespread, non-customer oriented trend among many (or most) TV manufacturers these days. (I'm using the documentation that came with my Pioneer plasma as a point of comparison. It was excellent.)
Overall, apart from the horribly inadequate documentation and poor remote (which both prompted me to take off 1 star for in my rating), this TV is absolutely outstanding. I would have loved to be able to step up to a Sony Z9D, but to be honest I'm glad I saved the extra money because this TV does everything I want it to do, and it does it extremely well - better than I ever though an LCD could.
As I saw one of the reviewers of the TV do, I really have to bow to the engineers at Sony for producing a phenomenal TV and working some real magic. I'm amazed at how far LCD technology has come since I had my first LCD in 2007. Fantastic job!
OLED TV vs. the X930E? VERY close, and each TV does something just a little better than the other. I absolutely love the blacks I get out of my OLED and it's great not to have to worry about off-axis viewing in my family room where the theater seats are spread out far off-axis. On the other hand, the light output from the X930E makes 4K HDR content look amazing, and the colors are just knock-your-socks-off vibrant. And as I stated earlier, one of the things I'm VERY happy about is the X930E's truly remarkable processing capabilities in terms of making low-quality content look good, and getting rid of those annoying contours when viewing a uniform background on the screen, and up-converting non-4K material to near 4K.
I love 'em both for different reasons! But I think if you have your sights on an X930E, you will be amazed at what a phenomenal TV it is. For me, this XBR65X930E with its Xtreme processor is definitely worth the Xtreme price tag. You get what you pay for, right?

Will do my to keep this short. Will start by saying that it ha always been somewhat discouraging reading reviews of 4k tv's as most reviewers do not bother to explain what kind of regular tv signal they receive. We live where there is not enough wifi speed to stream 4k stuff, nor receive much of any ota signal. Our choice is satellite, and we have Direct. Purched the x930e 65 inch from Best Buy about a month ago. My deciding factor was reading reviews of past year sony 4k tv's with respect to how well they improve the picture with their upscaling prowess. Am on the bandwagon with the x930e and it's beautiful picture thanks to the upscaling.
I am also pretty amazed at how well the x930e is able to saturate the screen with it's color yet, still look very realistic. I also purchased sony's new 4k blu-ray player and hdr content is gorgeous. 1080p blu-rays are upscale so well that I won't be doubling them up by purchasing the 4k blu-ray.
We do have enough wifi speed to easily stream Netflix and the rest. Once again with the x930e's upscaling, it takes stuff like Daredevil, Mar Polo, etc, to a point a noticiably beyond 1080p. And again those saturated realistic colors...
To have been able to upgrade from an 9 year old plasma for under four thousand dollars-and that includes the sony 4k blu-ray player X-800, plus stupid Cali taxes, makes me feel pretty good. By the way, the blacks are quite good, and the blooming described by pro reviewers really isn't that bad, and I watch the x930e in a very dark room. I only hope updates appear automatically as I have not figured out the menu to check for updates.
Am now a sony tv fan-this is my second one, not the last. Got the bedroom to think about.

I started out looking at inexpensive TVs over the Black Friday weekend. But I noticed a very significant difference in image quality looking at the cheaper sets versus the higher-end sets. Then I started to look at the fancy OLED televisions, and spoke to two employees in the magnolia area of my Best Buy. Based off the criteria for the large, brightly lit room this was going to be installed in, they felt that having a little bit brighter output would be more of a benefit than having the ultra-dark darks of an OLED or similar-type TV. I think that was the right advice, and it also saved me a couple hundred dollars. The TV has great contrast, bright brights, and dark darks even when the room is saturated with sunlight. At night the TV has similar performance to an OLED, although the darks aren't quite as dark, but you do get to see a little more detail in those areas. We are very impressed with this television, even the upscaling of standard definition inputs is very good for the most part. I was also able to compare this to a Samsung 9000 Series, and a Vizio m-series at two different Best Buy stores that have these sets located next to each other, and the Sony did look better to my eyes than either of those models. I imagine if you don't have as bright of a room as I have, the M series Vizio for about half the price, or the 900 or 850 series Sony's would suit you just fine. This was not an inexpensive TV, but considering we had our last one, a Sharp Aquos, for almost 10 years, we figured it was worth upgrading to a high-end set that we can enjoy for 10 more years.

I first saw the 930E at Best Buy and I was lucky enough to talk to the Sony rep who was visiting the store. He explained how the 930E compares to the OLED TV by LG. After much thought and reading of reviews, we decided to purchase the XBR65X930E. We have been enjoying the 930E for 3 weeks now. The 930E compensates for our bright living room. First impression: the colors are vivid with impressive contrast, no need to purchase a sound bar as the 930E has great treble, midrange and bass. By far this the best flat panel TV we have owned.

Picture Quality: A+
Outstanding picture as the colors are accurate in both SDR and HDR after only minor adjustments. Upscaling is the best I've seen on any television and can make any 720P signal source look near 4K quality. Truly amazing work Sony thanks to the X1 Extreme processor.
Sound: B
The audio from the built in speakers aren't great, but which speakers these days really are minus the new A1E, but it isn't that bad either. Just be prepared to get a sound bar to do this tv justice.
Build Quality: A
I like what Sony has done here. The bezels are super thin all the way around on the front which gives it a nice sharp look from every angle. This tv is Heavy! Definitely not as light as most TVs we see nowadays which makes mounting a little more challenging. I like the cable management system in the back as there are panels that come on and off as needed to plug in inputs. This gives it a clean look and works pretty well.
Overall: A+
If you're like me and not ready to jump in on OLED just yet for the issues of burn in and nit peak brightness levels then you cannot go wrong with this set for 2017. It has everything you could possibly be looking for in today's industry standards gearing towards 4K Dolby vision soon. The black levels on this set are fantastic and not leaps and bounds worse than the 2017 OLED models out there to make me suffer the trade-off of worse upscaling and a darker picture for 4K and HDR content that was made to be brighter. This set goes almost toe to toe with the Z9D but for almost half the price and has better viewing angles for a larger room. If you're having any hesitation I say go down and look at it for yourself and you won't be disappointed.

This is probably one of 2 TVs that hit over 1000 nits required for vibrant HDR. OLED while having super deep blacks they are not close to hitting those light levels yet. It’s honestly a coin flip in picture quality between the X930E and OLED as they both excel in different areas but my decision came down to fear of OLED burn in.

It's a Sony - picture is wonderful - I upgraded from a 2 1/2 year old Sony 65X850B in order for the HDR capability, and I was curious about the Android TV. Works fine but out of the box I found it annoying - instructions were as incomplete and terse as possible - just the sheet showing how to put the feet on it was awful - like a set of Lego instructions - no words just pictures that weren't quite obvious. We got there but it wasn't pleasant. To continue in the same vein, no user's manual to speak of - I had to poke around and experiment just to figure simple things out. Evidently documentation is no longer necessary.
The Android TV is OK - it's convenient to download an app and run it - I've used the HBO and Starz apps to watch stuff I missed on cable and the quality seems better than my DVR. But the Android screen is full of icons I have no interest in with no apparent way to get rid of them. Again - with no documentation I'm simply experimenting.

Awesome TV...setup in less than 30 minutes including networking, Netflix account and audio...great picture with loads of options to tweak it to my own preferences. The television has amazing colors and great clarity. It it was easy to program and I was able to use it the same day it was delivered. Installing the wall hardware was tricky and the television was heavy. It requires two or three people to hold it. Would recommend paying for installation. It is clearer than our two year old smart tv.

I wanted to watch this TV for a few weeks before writing a review and I have. Very impressed with its overall picture quality and brightness. Bit of light bleed into black bars with letterboxed movies but very minor. Lowering the black levels which on Sony sets is actually brightness helps immensely. The actual brightness setting is backlight on other TV makes. Upscaling of 480i DirecTV satellite feed is very good and 4K streaming looks amazing. It's a heavy television especially in the 65 inch model but well worth the money and I couldn't be happier with my purchase of this TV. Black and white films on Turner Classic Movies is a real treat as well.

Picture is great! I couldn't see $600 difference between this and an OLED LG. Picked this up and so far am not regretting it.

My personal opinion:
PRO - Picture is great. Brightness, Contrast, everything you look at is awesome. 4K HDR is fantastic.
CON - The interface is garbage. Sluggish, loaded with junk apps. I picked up a NVIDIA Shield and that Android TV interface is so much cleaner and FASTER than the TV. I just use the Shield for everything.
I DON'T KNOW - It has speakers, but I've never used them. I've got everything running through a receiver for audio.

Decided on this TV after reading reviews that It had the best upscaling, a higher brightness level than other Sony sets, therfore it seemed more suited for rooms with higher light levels. We have a lot of windows so we needed something that worked better with brighter lighting. This filled the bill perfectly, plus I liked the fact that the frame was very sturdy (and heavier) which minimized problems with twisting the screen out of alignment during setup as has been a complaint with some of the sets with thin frames. Has a great picture, my only misgiving would be the sound, as it is average at best, but not bad enough to knock it down a notch.

I purchased it few days ago and this is my first 4K TV. I had a HD TV before. As a sports FAN and movie addict the picture quality is excellent!! I felt I was right there in the scene. The audio quality is very good. Only concern I had from expert review was the side angle view. But I have to tell you it is not an issue at all. It is just little darker but really that's a problem?

I really wanted to love this TV, but ultimately I had to return it. The picture when viewing 4K content is amazing, even just the You Tube 4K trailers online, as I didn't have a 4K source at home. It also does a very good job of upscaling regular HD content. If you do most of your viewing directly in front of the TV, you will be very satisfied by the picture. This TV is very bright, it was amazing how bright the lights in dark scenes would get. However, when viewed off angle, the picture quickly deteriorates as the colors look washed out. The reason I was forced to return mine was because the uniformity was bad on my panel. There were two vertical columns of pixels about 2 inches thick on the left side of my screen where the pixels were lighter than the rest of the screen. It was very apparent in scenes that were dark or mostly gray, although they were not visible in bright scenes or 4K content. Best buy was great about taking the TV back.
If not for this flaw, I would have been happy with this TV. But after having returned this, I am going to wait for the price on Sony OLED to come down.

I recently bought this tv and decided to give it a shot, since reviews seemed fantastic and even experts seemed to put it as a top ranking LED.
First, the good. Tv in 4K on uhd Blu-ray looks absolutely stunning. Blacks are fantastic, and the colors are bright and accurate.
The bad.
I turned the tv on to watch football and after spending hours! Calibrating it and adjusting every single setting I couldn’t get the motion to look right. It judders and blurs when any motion is on. For the price tag of this tv I expected no issue. My Samsung js8500 (which is 2 years old now) looks ten times better with motion.
I’ve been avoiding OLED due to burn In and in my opinion inflated price tags but at only 600 more the the LG c7 I will be returning the Sony, and getting an OLED.
I gave Sony a chance, and just like on the game consoles they’ve dropped the ball yet again.

This TV is great in producing life like pictures If you get lucky with the panel lottery i am in my 3rd set. Finally 3rd set was good.
4k picture quality is great it gives you that wow look at this tv feeling, not just your average tv.
Up scaling is one of the best if not the best X1extrime chip does the magic. regular content looks close to 4k picture.
Colors are great one of the best.
HDR is really good very bright and good picture quality. it can also do Dolby Vision as well as HDR 10 and HLG. at first Dolby vision did not work for Apple TV but after Apple TV update it started working. Over all HDR is a dim technology and a lot of tvs out there will give you that dim picture but not this TV HDR looks bright and amazing.
Black levels are good little bit of blooming but it happens with edge lit TVs especially the bright tvs like this. the only complaint is that when you launch Youtube or Netflix local dimming goes off for like a second and that's when you can see the backlight blooming. it will bother some people but it doesn't bother me.
HDR Gaming is great i haven't had any issues with motion.
Brightness is 1500 nits and it can sustain it for a long time.
Overall great TV but the panel lottery is a real thing with this TV. My first 2 TVs had a vertical line that's lined up with the back screws.
I highly recommend this TV very good picture quality one of the best that Sony made.
