    Great Capture Quality!

I purchased (exchanged) this Dash Cam as a result of previously purchasing a less than operable Car&Driver dash cam.Even though this Dash Cam was significantly more expensive it is certainly worth the price. Given the price I don't think a dash cam this expensive will be for everyone but since I uber/lyft on the side, I determined it might be a worth-while investment. I have not been disappointed by the front facing dash cam and the video captures saved on the SD Card from working have been very good quality (including the audio). The reason that I gave this dash cam 4 stars instead of 5 is a result of the IOS Application that is used to connect to the dash cam. The Application has trouble maintaining a secure/consistent connection and being connected via wifi doesn't seem all that practical. I think bluetooth would have sufficed. Even when the App is connected, the dash cam seems to disconnect after a minute or two of non-use on the IOS device. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but it would be nice maybe to have the phone display the rear cam while driving out of curiosity? (I have purchased the rear cam for this product but am still waiting for BB to ship to store for pick-up). That being said, the only complaint are issues with the free application being somewhat annoying to connect to and retrieve information in general. I can only hope that the application is updated sometime soon in the future. Fortunately the Dash Cam works just fine without the application and there is an indicator light (rec) which displays whether the dash cam is recording or not, also the dash cam will announce upon turning on that dash cam is in fact recording. I was unsure what to expect the first time I looked at the files on the microsd card on my computer but I was not disappointed. The image quality overall is great with the exception of trying to read license plates from oncoming traffic at night. However this is understandable but reading plates from behind at a vehicle slower speed seems to be just fine. Overall I'm very satisfied with this product and expect to get lots of use out of it while driving for lyft/uber. Even though license plates might be difficult to read, I would expect any accidents/incidents would require speaking with the other party involved or at minimum visually getting their plates if necessary in person so I don't foresee that too big of an issue. Also, even though there are phone application connection stability issues, I don't think this is a deal-breaker if you simply need video evidence of an incident. This will capture the video regardless of connecting to a phone or not. Just make sure to copy over the video asap after an incident. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED Image 1: While driving slowly at night Image 2: Folders on Microsd (continuous recording, event recorder, manual recording, motion timelapse recording, parking recording.

First of all anyone who has anything negative to say about this model, other than the minor issue of no screen, it's probably user error. I have used, returned, and threw away many dashcams in the last couple of years. Either they just didn't do the job right or failed after a few months. So I figured since this model had Rave reviews on Amazon and it was on sale at BB, I'd give it a shot, and boy can I say, this is what a dash cam should be. Yeah no screen, but the hotspot connection is quick and awesome plus it gives it internet access so it can warn you about red light cameras and if your driving way over the speed limit, if you want it to of course. And it talks to you so you always know what it is doing. Led indicators and knightrider style security led is a plus. I would highly recommend the hardwire kit, for fellow diyers out there, you can't splice the power cable it comes with because it doesn't have a 3rd wire. The power adapter it comes with is just power and ground from your cigarette lighter. The hard wire kit is 3 wire, a constant 12v, ING or ACC 12v and ground. Hence how it knows when to switch to parking mode and when to start continuous record. And it speaks and tells you as such when it switches. Parking time lapse is awesome and still detects motion during time lapse. Haven't had the lane departure or speed warnings go off but then again my music is always too loud so I probably didn't hear them anyways. The video quality is great however nighttime recording is freaking excellent. Haven't gotten a rear camera for it yet but I probably will. Oh and when you get in the car and start it, it will tell you how many incidents it recorded while parked both g sensor and motion, but even if zero, you still have the time lapse recording. Timestamp speedstamp and model overlay on video is exactly what you would expect from a dash cam. It's basically set it and forget it. One thing that I can say that is negative is that the mic quality sucks terribly, but having audio isn't really that important, if anything it would condemn yourself when presenting evidence. Comes with a 16gb microsd a USB micro sd reader, a mount plate plus 1 extra adhesive pad. 3 or 4 wire clips with adhesive backs that can be repositioned and the camera of course. Extensive feature set, very simple straightforward to use. Although the initial setup is a bit weird, you connect to it's wifi, talks you through the process, and then it automatically reads your hotspot info and you have to turn your Wi-Fi off and then hotspot on and it will connect. Make sure you deselect only allowed devices and once it connects add it to the allowed list and then turn on the only allowed devices feature of your hotspot. Haven't used the pc viewer yet but it looks awesome. Very pleased with this dashcam, yeah it's a bit pricey but it's worth every penny and then some. Solid product, no gimmicks, no bs, it does it's job, and it does it very well. Can't wait for the F900 to come out!

I have had this Think ware F800 dash Cam for about 2 weeks also have the rear camera and Best Buy hardwired the unit so I can take advantage of the parking mode. I also got a 64GB micro SD card for longer recording time. It has been easy to use, I think the parking mode is great and the video is very good for night vision Best Buy did a great job at a reasonable price for hardwiring the unit so I can take advantage of the parking recording.

After much research, I opted to purchase the ThinkWare F800 dash cam. Install was easy, and setup was a breeze, for the most part (more on this, below). The materials used on this unit have a premium look and feel. The device is pretty small, and sits nicely on the windshield right behind my rear view mirror which makes it less noticeable than other cams. Out of the box the unit comes with everything you need to get up and running, quickly. A quick start guide, 3M adhesive pads (for mounting), cigarette lighter power adapter, 16GB SD card and the unit itself. It took me about 45 minutes to install everything and get it powered up. I opted for the hardwired kit (TWA-SH). I think it could have been cheaper, but it was helpful in the sense that I didn't want yet another plug consuming a cigarette lighter port. It hooks up to the same wires your stereo uses, and keeps the device powered up when it should be. The other advantage to using this kit is that some vehicles don't power the cigarette lighter adapter when the key is off. You might think that's a good thing, but then you might not be able to take advantage of the parking recordings (someone messing with your vehicle, breaking in, etc). when the vehicle is off. My only real gripe with the unit are the Apps used to change settings, view recordings and see live video. With an iOS device (Apple), it's a breeze and there are ZERO issues. I can't say the same for Android, however. There are two apps on the Play Store to choose from, and one of them pretty much doesn't work at all. So, skip the headache and download Thinkware Cloud. Outside of the Apps being less than desirable, I still did have an issue on Android, which is kind of a big one.... connecting to the device. On Android, you need to go into your WiFi settings menu, choose the Thinkware network, connect using the default password (123456789) and then in theory, you should be able to change settings, view live and previously recorded video. This is NOT the case (on my Pixel 2 XL at least). After some research, I found that if I wanted to view live or recorded videos using the cloud App, I needed to put my device into Airplane Mode, turn WiFi back on, connect to the Thinkware network, and only then will I be able to achieve viewing of videos. This is super inconvenient, and I hope they find a fix for it soon. Again, this is NOT an issue on Apple, only on Android (and I don't believe it's all Android devices, just certain devices and carriers). I'd give this cam a full 5 stars if it wasn't for the issue/rant above about WiFi/App connectivity. Outside of this, I am very pleased with the price and quality of the device. So much so that I am considering adding the rear camera as well.

I had Best Buy Autotech install the front and rear cameras for the F-800, and the video quality is amazing! Clear images at highway speeds, driving through the city, and while in parking mode. However, the Thinkware app definitely needs improvement, it pairs to your smart phone via a WiFi signal built into the camera. Allowing you to view live footage from the front and rear cameras, and download video to your smart phone without having to remove the memory card and stick it in your computer. Although if you are going to review a day's worth of files, I would recommend removing the memory card from the camera. I like the fact that the clips are about 1 minute each, as opposed to longer so you aren't storing/sending large files. I wasn't able to locate a 128bg card, so I settled for the 64 gb, and no issues thus far. Also I love the fact that the system tells you how many incidents there were while the vehicle was parked overnight, motion detection, incident detention, etc. Finally to my surprise, it has a built in GPS, and speed camera, mobile camera alerts for avoiding those unwanted tickets!

Easy to install, no difficulty downloading the App for iPhone SE. No difficulty obtaining WiFi connection from iPhone to camera. Easy to use with great clarity. I bought my first one for my Jeep and after a couple weeks of use I bought another one for my wife’s Subaru. Very happy with this product, I will be getting the rear cameras for both vehicles as well.

Very impressed with the clarity of the dash cam so impressed that i ordered the night vision rear cam at amazon. overcast days gives a crystal clear view of everything around you. night vision is very very impressive. i even got good night view with rain on the windshield. the only thing i dont like is that i have to have a hotspot to use the cloud. i can still do live view via wifi but no backup footage to the cloud w/o a hot spot service. make sure you buy a 64 gig card as the 16 is only good for about an hour and a half. the f-800 will not take a 128g card

No screen to worry about. Talks clearly when active, notifications are helpful, & GPS tracking to show route driven are nice features. Buttons on unit are easy to use. Highly customizable through software. I use the laptop and IPad configurations which work really well. Limited to 64GB card, but plenty if you save what you want or need and clear what you don’t use. Easy windshield mount with double sided 3M tape and bracket. Purchased direct battery hardwire kit but cigarette adapter works well if you don’t mind the cable. Installed the rear optional camera. The 3M tape for it does not work well to keep it secured. May try rear view mirror adhesive to see if it’s any better. A little pricey but worth the money and protection it will provide. Looking to upgrade to the pro version due to larger capacity & ICloud storage capabilities. Overall, it’s a HD camera with more options available than the others currently offer.

    Connection Resolved for Me (iOS)

Super easy to install and get video recording started. I was able to stop on my way home and get it working fairly easily. Nearly plug & play (record). Excellent Quality video MacBook app worked really well to review video Had trouble going through WiFi set up. My solution was to update firmware and then eliminate spaces from my Personal Hotspot SSID for my iPhone Once I did that the connection seemed to work just fine. I'd prefer to give it 4.5 stars due to expense but in the end I rounded up. Mostly to offset the 1 star rating I saw earlier which I feel is way too low even with the issue that we both had setting unit up.

Works great. I gave 4 star rating only because the unit is a little bulkier than expected and is very obvious between the mirror and the windshield. I was expecting the unit to be a little more sleek. It does what it is supposed to do, though.

After becoming confused with the huge variety of dashcams and price points, I decided on the F800 because it seemed to offer the best picture quality. I figured that if I ever needed to review footage, I would be extremely annoyed if the picture quality prevented me from reading license plates. I had this hardwire installed for free with Total Tech Support. The picture quality is very good and I appreciate the safety warnings and extreme temperature settings. Drawbacks are that the user manual is confusing and the WiFi streaming to my phone when reviewing footage is usually choppy/laggy. However, customer support is very responsive and you can pull the included microSD card from the camera to review the footage on your computer without lag. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and would buy again.

I chose this camera after reading many reviews on dash cameras. I installed it and used the cigarette lighter plug for power the first few days until the weekend when I had the time to hard wire it. Installation was super simple and including the installation of the rear camera. The instructions could be a little more detailed showing how to navigate the camera operation and playback. I like the blinking light that is visible through the windshield while in parking mode. I'm am going to put a switch on the always hot power wire so that I can turn it off while parked at home and recording is not necessary. Overall, I am very happy with this camera.

Until something new comes out there is nothing else Best Buy carries that can beat this camera. The day and night video is amazing. You can read 90% or all the licence plates day or night. The app is a little buggy, and needs updated, but after a few videos I figured it out. I wish best buy would carry the rear camera also.

This unit has great quality video, is easy to install and setup, and is easy to pair to your device to view real time as well as download videos. You get all this a a fair price. I think less expensive units are out there, but none this easy to use and high quality.
