This versatile router does everything EXCEPT be its own independent unit. Upon purchase of the Google OnHub Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Router I was led to believe that it was a stand alone router. Wether that was a misunderstanding on my part or bad info from he sales person IT DOES NOT replace your home router. Nevertheless it does provide you with a powerful option of disseminating your wifi signal to any device connected. It also allows you to decide the length of time you can prioritize any device. For instance, if you want your computer to be at maximum bandwidth for about 2 hours you can do so through the easy to use OnHub application. The router can easily handle up to 50 devices (the package says 100) and manages to run them all smoothly. It does not have an onboard cloud service (at least not at present). There are two different versions, so consult your sales person for specifics. Bottom line is this devices delivers real well on its intended purpose. That is to separate and manage your wifi channels. Other uses: provides guest with wifi lines, prioritizes channel use, app lets you manage usage, and fast ease of connection. This is a great router that even got my internet company to drop a charge for its dual bandwidth channels in the given router. It is an overall great product.

After suffering with very poor internet and telephone service from Time Warner, I decided to take their repair tech's advice and purchase my own WiFi Router. The set-up was super easy and I have not had one hiccup from the time it was installed. I love the sleek profile and the fact that it talks with my phone to tell it if something is amiss. However, I would not have chosen this if I did not have the assistance of Best Buy's very excellent and knowledgeable tech person who guided me through the attributes and price points of various routers. I am very happy with my purchase.

If you are looking for a first router then this is a perfect device for you. I really love the look of the TpLink Google OnHub. It would look great in any room of my home. Its very easy to use and not complicated at all. I was especially amazed as how easy it was to set up with the Google On app. The app is available in both Android and iOS. The app walks you through all of the setup and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. You just plug it in, set a network name and security key and let it worry about how to connect all your wireless devices and keep them running smoothly. It has a USB 2.0 port but is not operational at this time. Im sure that software and firmware updates in the near future will fix this. I was also reading that it has a built in Bluetooth 4.0 and ZigBee radio (Im guessing for smart home automation devices) that will be turned on sometime in the future. I see this turning into a very valuable asset to my home network. Range and speed of the OnHub is comparable to other dual band routers I have had. Overall I was impressed and will be leaving this hooked up. Im really excited to see what software and firmware updates TpLink has in store for the Google OnHub. This was a review of a free product received from TpLink as part of a review program.

Lots of routers are fast, but fast, stable and providing dense coverage across a 3 floor townhouse, this has always been a challenge. I gave up long ago and the monstrosities from Linksys, Asus, etc... with 3 giant antennas and runway lighting and went to an Airport Extreme. And while not perfect it was... adequate. So I was skeptical when one day Google just announced the OhHub and figured it would equal the Airport at best. I am happy to report I was wrong.
The antenna array on this thing is amazing and the range is unparalleled, I get coverage in the far corner of my third floor and outside the garage on the lower level. I don't get bandwidth sags in the evening as all the neighbors come home and the many other routers in range of mine go into use. How good is it, stuff that I always insisted needed a wired connection are now on WiFi and having zero issues.
2x tablets
2x smartphones
1x Windows 10 laptop
Nest Thermostat
3x Lifx bulbs
FireTV stick
Sony SmartTV
Apple TV (2015)
Chromecast Audio
PS4 (wired port)
The app is simple but easier to navigate and gives far better control than Apple's AirPort app. I've been doing IT support for 17 years, when I get home I want my stuff to just work. The OnHub delivers exactly what I was hoping for and then some. Five stars, would buy again.

A Smart Router for the Smart Home

I heard about this router as soon as it was released, so I read all the reviews on the Verge, Cnet and ARS to find out if it was worth the premium price tag. I didn't NEED a new router; I had a year-and-half old mid-range AC Linksys paired with a two-year-old Airport Express but the connection was dropping badly in a back room where the airport was located. I'm streaming Netflix, HBO Now, Amazon and doing some Xbox Live gaming in two rooms so I figured an upgrade in throughput would be helpful. I bought the OnHub because the setup is super simple, and connection problems are self-diagnosing so issues are resolved quickly and easily (if there ever are any issues). It may be an expensive router, but the ability for it to update through firmware in the future makes it worth the price-tag. To be honest, I also bought it because it's nice to look at and I'm a sucker for aesthetics. The only caveat to that- and I didn't knock off points for this- but the nice looks come at a cost to wired connections. It only has one (1) ethernet input. I recommend prioritizing what you're connecting especially if you're gaming and/or have older legacy devices that don't have wireless adapters, otherwise I totally recommend it!

Google's attack on the ISP

I think it's safe to say that most people have ISP routers. Those guys milk you for $8 or $12 monthly rental fees on cheap equipment from obscure companies.
That's still a lot better than buying a supposedly superior router than not knowing what you're doing. A thing that requires nothing of you other than an angry phone call to Time Warner is better than a nice thing that requires you to be the support admin of your own network.
This router is for you. So painfully easy to setup. So painfully easy to run it. It has a giant glowing ring where the teal color (lets just say green) basically means "you're good bro". If it has any other color, just open the app on your phone and it'll tell you all the happenings. The hardest thing I had to do was unplug my modem and plug it back in to satisfy Mr Onhubberd.
The app has mostly Ok information. It doesn't let you edit your devices on your network, or set up actual traffic shaping. No security features to really speak of outside of wireless protection. You can't separate SSIDs to force a 5ghz connection to actually benchmark the device.
Did all of that sound english to you? then you might want a different router. If I just spoke gibberish above, then you're perfectly fine for this router.
I will say, compared to some popular routers out there, the lack of feature bloat sped up my internet considerably over popular alternatives with Firewalls and features galore. This router is a very snappy internet machine.
Will Google steal your information with this router? Not quite. It's $200 and not a free internet service. Google is attacking bottlenecks where they can. Google Fiber, Google Project Fi, Google Public DNS. They just want you having a better shot of accessing their services that actually does collect information for adverts. I'm not a sky is falling consumer here. Google makes great stuff and they're not forcing your hand in anything.
Same goes for the Onhub.

The Google onhub is an excellent router for a high performance home network system we have a very large home and we were able to remove the range extender that we needed to use with our old router the Netgear Nighthawk. and there is no more buffering on any videos so far on any devices the setup was very easy and I like the ability to view my network on my phone to see the performance anywhere . we normally have around 19 devices running including 5 video streaming devices and two phone lines and have not overwhelmed the routers performance to date. This router is definitely a plug and play device and cannot wait for google to update the router so we can unlock all the functions that this router is able to perform

My IPhone 6 and IPad Air doesn't want to hold the signal. I have never had this problem before and this was product suppose to be so great. I am terribly disappointed as I don't have time to always keep trying to get my products to pick up my internet and stay on it. I have a really good internet service for my are. I have never had this trouble before now.

I read many articles leading up to the release of this router as it's from Google, and when I received it last week, it certainly didn't disappoint. It took me about 10 minutes to set it up (most of the time was spent downloading and updating the app on my iPhone) and the throughput is amazing! I've had issues with coverage upstairs in our home with the router set up in the opposite corner of the basement, but this covers it with ease and have had zero dropouts since this was installed. Some of the advanced features aren't available such as guest networks, IP and MAC address filtering, and ability to change the type of security (WPA2 Personal is the only option), but this is an awesome router and you will not have buyers remorse!

Got it the day after it was released and can say the wifi performance is great. Only having one ethernet port is annoying, but high throughput switches are cheap so it wasn't an issue for me.
The downsides are as follows:
-Cannot rename devices
-No Web interface (would be nice, but I didn't knock off any stars because of it)
-Cannot view wired usage (shows up as unknown)
-Can only prioritize devices in intervals of 1, 2 and 4 hours (no permanent device prioritization, no tiers)
-Cannot view Internet usage in graph form (again a nice to have, no stars knocked because of it)
Overall, my gripes are ONLY with the day one features. I have to assume that Google will expand functionality over time.
Performance you expect from a $200 router, but a significant lack of features for the same price tier.

While there are other routers that might have a longer range (not by all that much) this provides a more stable connection. Certainly my top choice if I had to game on WiFi. Additionally the other AC routers that will give comparable performance are at least $100 more, if not $200+
It is also incredibly simple to use so if you are looking to get a router you don't have to mess with it's perfect.

I can only basically repeat what professional reviews have said: the initial and ongoing setup is simplified, but the features and controls you get are limited. The range is excellent, but not without hiccups.
Do not buy if you don't have an Android or iOS device you are comfortable using, as you can't setup or manage the router without one.
Only buy this if you're willing to pay a premium for simplified setup and management, otherwise there are routers with similar performance and more features (support for a USB printer or hard drive, and more wired LAN ports are the big ones).

I have used Linksys/Cisco/Asus routers - usually requiring 2 routers to cover the house. Then coverage and speed is spotty, with drop outs, etc... Bought this router, covers entire house, and speed is over 100 Mbps, wireless. This router uses an app for setup, no webpage interface. The app has decent features for setting up the router. No tweaking of wireless channels, or similar features. Does allow setting static IPs, port forwarding, and similar functions.
I gave it 4 starts (instead of the 5 is deserves) because in bridge mode - almost all features are disabled. Had to purchase a larger switch and revised my network, and convert a PC to wireless (instead of hard wired). Thus if your network is all wireless - and you wont need bridge mode or custom settings - this is the router.

Looking for a new wifi router can be confusing and stressful. I did a lot of research and decided on this Google Hub because of features, looks and capabilities it has. I've had my router for a few months now and I'm absolutely happy with my purchase and so is my family.
With the app that you can download on your iOS and android device you can control it from literally anywhere you are. It lets you know what devices are being used. You can setup passwords for your home and guests wifi access. I created a list with all of the devices my kids use and I'm able to pause their internet with a push of a button!! They're not that thrilled about that...lol. You can set up a timer for how long their wifi will be paused.
The cool blue ambient light is quite nice, I really like the looks it gives it, plus you can buy different outer covers for it to make it match your homes decor. As far as I know, the speaker doesn't have any functionality yet, but do to the fact that this is and updatable router I read there will be use for it in an update google will do in the future.
I'm just glad I get wifi in my whole house and even out in the street. Even though I have old plaster walls, this router delivers a signal to my devices. I have over 15 devices easily and about 7-8 running at the same time. This router has the ability to detect which devices need more megs of internet so you can stream on two television sets at the same time your browsing your phone and your kids are playing on their iPads. I have a 60megs internet service and this router throws 62-67 at me! My old one was giving me 32-40 causing everything to lag.
Overall, it's a great router and for the price, you can't got wrong. Have a huge house? Get two, you can bridge them!!!

I bought my previous router over 4 years ago and was very happy with it until the last 3 or 4 months when it would occasionally drop Internet service to all our wireless devices. I would reboot the old router and every thing worked fine again... for awhile. Eventually, the dropped service was more frequent until it completely stopped providing service altogether. I did some quick research and asked a few tech savvy friends and relatives. My new router choice was obvious, Google's OnHub. My son told me it would be like going from 3G to 4G. I bought the OnHub and the difference is phenomenal. I don't understand the spec-techs, but the speed, range, and number of devices I can connect are a significant improvement over my previous router even when it was new. I am very satisfied with the Google OnHub router and suspect I shouldn't wait 4 years to upgrade electronic devices.

I went from a linksys to the onhub. My speed is crazy now. 40 mps to 140 mps near the router and from 15 mps to 40 mps on the other side of the condo. It also finds the best channel which is hard in a condo with over 20 other routers in range.
