The WEMO switches worked well with the other three way switches so I did not need to replace all my switches to smart switches. This has allowed both my Alexa and Google devices to control the lights without investing more money than necessary. The addition of screw free face plates delivers on a very clean look in comparison to the traditional light switches and face plates. So much so that after seeing the final product on installing the first three switches and seeing how easy they were to install, I quickly moved to purchasing four more. I have had the previous version of this switch operating my master bedroom light now for more than three years with zero issues. Even after upgrading my home network and purposely changing over to a new SSID, it was simple and easy to make the change which is what led to purchasing more of these Wemo switches. End of the day, its a solid and reliable switch for the money. My only regret is I did not purchase them sooner.

These Wemo switches are very nice, stylish, and easy to install. I had no problems installing this with the limited wiring knowledge that I have. Instruction booklet is laid out nicely. It provides you with diagrams for all wiring options. I use one switch for a 3-way circuit, and the other one on a single pole circuit. The only problem I had was having is I had to clean up my junction box as the back of the switch is quite deep so the wires got in the way, so I simply had to shorten all the wires in the box to make provide room for the switch body. The app was simple to use and works as it should. From the app you can turn the lights on and off and also set up Schedules, On/Off timer and Away mode. I set up the switches with my Alexa app with no problems and they work perfect. (They work with Apple Homelink and Google Assistant as well.) I also like the way the switch lights up where you push it on and off. It even acts like a little night light in a room. This light will change colors and or flash to indicate its status. Once connected it stays solid white. These switches come with a clip-on faceplate that I did not use. I imagine you would use these with a new switch installation or a single switch box. All-in-all you can’t go wrong with these switches. So nice to have a product that worked without problems out of the box. Hope this review helped you out. Cheers!

Easy Install / Setup Took Time

After turning off the breaker for the first switch I was replacing and checking wires with a meter,I was ready to start the installation process. Removing the old switch and replacing it with the Wemo switch was a pretty straight forward process following the included instructions. Putting the switch back in the electrical box was a bit more challenging and I had to go back and shorten some of the wires to create more space. Once I finally got the switch mounted back inside the box I began the setup process using the Wemo app. Following the steps in the app everything appeared to go smoothly, the switch immediately appeared in my WiFi list, connected easily and installed correctly. I immediately got a message there was a firmware update available so I took care of that first. So far so good. The switch is in the Wemo app and appears to be working the way it's supposed to. We have iPhones and use HomeKit so the next step was to add the Wemo switch to HomeKit. I navigated to the "Connect to Our Smart Home Partners" option in the Wemo app and clicked the Apple Home app option and started the process, scanned the code in the setup instruction book and got a message the device was already installed, but nope not listed in the HomeKit app and trying to have Siri turn the light on/off had no effect. So I did a full reset on the switch and started the process over, this time removing the switch from the electrical box and scanning the code on the back of the switch. Same result. I followed the exact same steps on the third try as I did on the first try and apparently the 3rd time is a charm as I got a message in the HomeKit app that it was setting up the new switch. A quick test with Siri when it was complete and it appears to be working correctly now. Overall the actual hardware installation was easy, so if you've ever installed a light switch before the biggest challenge might be cramming all the wiring back in the box to get the switch to fit. Getting the switch installed in the app had some hiccups, but did work and so far the switch is working the way it's supposed to and I like the option to have the app turn the light on at random times when we're away from home. The second switch will get installed this weekend and I'm hoping the setup process improves

I’m really happy with these switches overall. The installation was much easier than I imagined it would be and they integrate perfectly with Google Assistant. The switches also have a nice understated look that blends in well with my existing switches. I consider myself a novice when it comes to electrical wiring, but the included instructions were very easy to follow and I was able to remove my existing switches and install the new Wemo ones with very little trouble using everything provided in the box. Getting the new switches back into the wall was a little bit of a struggle since the backside of these switches are quite a bit larger than the switches I was replacing, but I was able to get everything back in there, though it was tight. Setting everything up in the app was pretty easy, though the app on my Pixel phone crashed a few times during the setup. Once I got through that it was fine though and I was able to use the Wemo app to turn my switches off and on and also connect them to my Google Assistant. I have some Arlo cameras that I use and my goal is to have these switches work in conjunction with them (if the system is armed and detects motion, turn on hallway lights). The Wemo app has support for this built-in for the Belkin Netcam and a couple Wemo sensors, but nothing else unfortunately. I think think this could still be achieved with IFTTT, which the Wemo switches support, but it’s going to be a little more work than I was hoping it would be. The switches themselves work well, though I do wish they had just a little bit more ‘click’ to them. I have them installed as 3-way switches and my other switches on the other side continue to function as normal without affecting the smart switch’s functions. I plan on converting all of my main rooms to Wemo switches. I’ve always been a fan of smart switches over smart light bulbs and now that I’ve had the chance to use these I can do the rest of my house with a little more confidence.

I got this installed and ready to setup and the app continually fails during setup giving me the error "our cloud servers have drifted away" been having this issue for over 4 days now. I called Wemo and they said its becuse apple is releasing a new version of iOS so their app is down. I am on android... so let that sink in for a minute So I basically just installed a fancy blinking 3 way switch that doesnt have any wifi or smart capability since it cant ever actually be setup. Waste of money and waste of time. I bought this when I moved into my house but it took me awhile to get around to installing it during my firts month of being in my new home and now the return period is expired so I am stuck with this garbage. Dont buy Wemo junk ever...

      Hello, Brad,

You may try force closing the Wemo App or uninstall and reinstall it for isolation before proceeding on setting up the Wemo WLS0403. Trying it with another handheld device may also help. We’d like to further investigate on your case as we’d also like to have our Product Experts assist you with the setup process by sharing this to email at [email protected] with your case number or phone number and the link of this review, for our reference.

Upfront I am a certified electrical instructor for the state I live. The good is that it works and is a quality switch so far. Wish the mounting part for the switch was metal where the screws go into the box as a lot of pressure can be put on the switch during the attachment phase to the box. I was careful to push the wires all the way into the back of the box with some lineman's pliers. Installation was interesting as a few steps were missing in the connect part. Also box fill is huge. I have deep boxes but the 3 way switch and house wires are a full box fill. I used smaller wire nuts and attempted to reduce where I could, but never shorten your house wires as they cannot be made longer at a later date without great difficulty and creating other issues. The app works but I am still working on how to make this show up in my Google Home App. No instructions of any kind for the Google App which is soon to be the master app for most devices. WeMo immediately went into update firmware mode after everything was connected. I like the ability to schedule lights on and off while away is a great security feature. Also if you have a wireless receptacle you could put a boom box on it and turn it up full blast. I will most likely get a few two way units to finish up my remote projects.

    Smartest of the smart switches!

There are literally hundreds of different smart switches out in the market but what makes these stand out from the rest is that they are indeed “Smarter” than other smart switches. Pros: • Straight forward install with detailed manual • Robust App • IFTTT, google assistant, alexa support, apple home kit Cons: • Requires neutral wire (not compatible with older wiring) • Initial App pairing can be troubling • Bulky “guts” that makes install tricky Install was easy with their illustrated guided booklet. The gut of the switch is bulky, but no bulkier than other smart switches, and can be tricky to reinstall back into the wall. What makes it tricky is tucking all the excess wiring and the gut of the switch in such a tiny cavity. Most of my smart switches sits kinda wonky and not flush against the wall due to this. Pairing with the app took me a few tries but not too bad. It does create its own wifi signal for the initial install so be prepared to spend more time in the app than the actual physical install. The app is robust and allows for a whole host of features. Scheduling and auto-off timers are standard across most brands but the “Long Press” is what I find unique to the Wemo switches. I can long press on one of my Wemo switches and it will turn on/off all Wemo switches. My favorite IFTTT recipe is if my Ring doorbell senses motion, then turn on my wemo light switch. I do recommend the Wemo switches if youre looking to make your light fixtures part or your quest to a smarter home. Do plan about 30 mins for install as the trickiest parts are cramming everything back into a small cavity and app setup.

I decided to test these switches because I had two specific locations where I wanted to be able to control the lighting remotely as well as have them set to randomly turn on when we're away. Unfortunately my house was built in the 60's, and for some reason there is only one switch in the whole house with a neutral wire. I'm sure there's a reason for requiring a neutral wire, but I also know that there are at least a few brands of smart switches that don't require it. Granted, on the back of the box, it clearly states that a neutral wire is required, but I didn't know that beforehand. Even though the one switch that did have a neutral wire didn't control either of the lights I wanted to control, I decided to replace that one switch anyway so I could at least give some feedback for installation and control. I'm not an electrician, but I'm fairly comfortable doing DIY wiring projects, so installation took me about 10 mins or so. Once the switch was wired and the app was installed, the app walks you through completing the install. I had a small hiccup when the app was connecting to the WiFi of the switch, but I just hit 'Try again' and everything initialized properly. Once I added the device in the app, the firmware for the switch was updated seamlessly. All of the functionality worked as stated, although I couldn't test some functions since I could only install one of the switches. One other problem I ran into was with the app itself. When I first tried to install the app, I was using an older phone that runs android 5.0. The app wasn't available for that version of android. I called support and was told that the minimum android version is 5.1, but the box states the minimum version is 6.0. This probably isn't a big deal for most people, but I usually install apps on an old phone first for testing purposes. Overall, I think this is a good product, I'm just disappointed that I can't really use it. The switches seem to be well made, and so far the one I've installed has functioned flawlessly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these as long as your house has neutral wires where you plan to install them.

    Expecting More

These light switches do exactly as described but I was expecting one feature that this device should have. The light switch was an easy install and only took me minutes to take out two of my old fashion switches and install these smart devices. The final setup of connecting to the wemo app was even easier. All you have to do is (within the wemo app) turn on your camera and let the app see the code for each switch. Then the wemo app takes it from there and connects your switches and lets you rename them. The app also allows you to adjust features like have a timer or put the switches on night mode where it will turn lights on and off like your home for a set period of time each night while you are away. You can also setup parameters to allow you to use any of the wemo switches to be controlled by any one device. Meaning I can hold down my wemo switch in the bedroom and it will shut off or turn off all of the wemo lights. You can configure this anyway you want and with any switch you want or all. Since I only have two I have it so I can turn off or turn all on. Additionally, I have alexa enabled so I can tell these lights to turn off anywhere in my home where there is an alexa. Also I have one these switches in my master bedroom so all I have to do is say alexa turn off the lights after I am done reading, etc. and the lights will turn off and I can roll right to sleep. Now for the disappointing part..... these Wemo switches do not dim and this is very inconvenient. Wemo does make a dim switch but I would have assumed that these would have as well. I will probably get the Wemo dim wall switch in the future for my living room with cathedral ceilings but I really wish this model had it built in. Also, these switches do not include motion. Wemos app has it blocked out when I look it up for my current switches and says I have to purchase another device? I feel as though that also should be built in. Overall a great device. Does exactly what it says it does and very well. A great feature to have in your home and to build upon with other wemo products.

The Wemo Smart Light Switch is as advertised. It allows physical and virtual (phone/tablet app, and voice) control of your lights or ceiling fans. I like that you don’t have to use a hub with Belkin’s Wemo products. Install a device, use the app, you’re on. I use it with Alexa and IFTTT and it’s so easy. The app allows you to set schedules so your place is lit up, or dark as needed. I run my apartment and my dad’s house in another state via the app. I think the design is clean and really attractive as well.

Make sure your electricity is upgraded!!

I was so excited for this item!!! I am turning my 126 year old house into a smart house- and this was one more step. Until... This is to go on my stair well to replace a three-way that was not working that well. So, power is turned off, tools assembled, temp light shinning...ready to operate. Yes I have done a few of these in my lifetime. I take the plate off, gently unhook the lines...and I discover the wiring for this particular switch is older than I am. So, I will get an electrician...sadly. A couple of things I noticed, and MUST be taken into account with this smart three-way...this is not a mechanical switch (hence the fifth wire) so you will need to hook that up as well. The box is also bigger than a typical box so be prepared to either replace it entirely or use a BFH. The 4 stars is because of these. This is breaking my heart but it is NOT the fault of the switch, it is the fault of the idiots that only upgraded 75% of the electricity in this house. I cannot wait to make this switch part of my Smart Home!!!

I already own a Wemo plug, a 2-way light switch, and now a 3-way light switch. So, this isn’t my first time installing a Wemo product or light switch. Installation was strait forward for me. I’ve changed light switches and outlets before in my house, so I’m familiar with my electrical wiring. And even though my house was built in 1974, it had all the necessary wiring (Neutral, Common, Load, and Ground) to work with this product. I once tried to install a smart light switch at a family member’s home, but the electrical was pre 1950s, and the neutral wire was not available. So, if you find you are missing wires behind your light switch after you unscrew it from the wall, please do not continue with the installation. At the very least, you’ll damage the device, and at worst, you’ll run the risk or an electrical hazard within your home. Another tip to consider is, if your light switch has an electrical outlet next to it (see picture), make sure you not only turn the power off at the breaker or fuse box for the switch, but also turn off the power at the box to the electrical outlet. They may be on separate circuits and killing the power to the light switch may not necessarily kill the power to the outlet. If not, you run the risk of touching the hot outlet wires while working on the light switch wires, and you’ll shock yourself in the process. After physically installing the switch, I was able to easily pair the new switch to the Wemo app. It’s important to note that the switch will only work on the 2.4 GHz wireless band, not a 5 GHz band. So, if your wireless router runs dual bands, make sure your cell phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz band during setup. This is very common nowadays with Mesh routers. Both bands usually have the same network name (SSID), so it’s hard to differentiate which one is the 2.4 GHz band. One way to achieve this is to log into your wireless router’s settings page and temporarily disable the 5 GHz band before adding the new switch to the Wemo App. Doing this can reduce the chance of the app not discovering your new device or having issues joining your network. After setting up the device in the app, you can enable the 5 GHz band on your wireless router again. Knowing these tips ahead of time really made the installation easy for me. In terms of using the Wemo app to control the light switch, I can do the basic on/off control from my phone, but I have never been able to get any rules to work. More specifically, every time I try to create a rule, like setting the timer to turn off the light after an hour, the app fails to save my custom rules. I’ve had this problem for years and I suspect it has to do with the older Wemo devices on my network. All my devices have the latest firmware, and the app is the latest version, but I think I read somewhere that I’ll need to start over and factory reset all my devices, as well as uninstall and reinstall the app to resolve this problem. I’ll get to that someday, but it’s not high on my priority list. Obviously, others are not having this problem, so it must be unique to my setup. Being an earlier adopter of technology has its benefits, but also its drawbacks. Overall, I’m really happy with how this 3-way light switch works. I finally have a way to make the 3-way light switch in my kitchen a smart switch. I can still use either switch to control the kitchen lights, but now I can do so through my phone or through my Google Assistant. It’s nice now being able to have the ability to tell Google to turn off my kitchen lights without having to be in the kitchen. And once I solve my app issue, I’ll be able to enjoy the full functionality of this device.

This at first seemed intimidating to tackle as a diy home project. The whole electrical wires and possibility to have something go wrong for me was something I stressed about. When I took a look at the instructions for this thing though, I felt it was going to be easier than I thought. The part where you install the switch does take a good chunk of time but if you know your way around basic electrical and can read the manual, you are set. I did dick a star because once everything was hooked up and running, it took way to many attempts to get it looked up with the Wemo app. It just didn't want to finalize the installation. After what seemed like the 25th time (no joke) we got it setup with Google Home. The looks on this switch is amazing. I'm glad I took the time to get this setup

I was glad to learn WeMo finally made 3-way smart switches. As with the other WeMo devices, installation was pretty easy since the product comes with great instructions. The switch also has an upgraded look and I must say it is nicer than the previous design. The switch works like it should. Only drawback for me is I had to buy a 2-pack when I was only looking for one switch at the time. Overall though it was a good purchase.

Best smart switches ever! Waited a long time to get true 3-way control out of one switch, regardless of what position the “dumb” switch is in. It took me a while to get the wiring correct but they make it very easy. The overall switch is a little larger than a normal switch so make sure you have space in your wall. Never loses connectivity and has a very quick response time. Apple Homekit compatible!

    WeMo - 3-Way Light Switches

I just finished installing both WeMo 3-way switches. I had two lights that were each controlled by 3-way switches (a total of four switches in two circuits). I used one WeMo 3-way switch for each light - there's no need to change out the other 3-way switch in the circuit. If you want to use two WeMo 3-way switches in each circuit, you can do so per the instructions but I think most people would want to use just the one. This install will NOT work if the Neutral (white) wire does not exist in the switch box. The instructions were very clear - removal of the old switch and installation of the new one were straightforward. This is easy enough if you are comfortable working with electrical wiring and switch connections. Otherwise, leave it to someone else more experienced. I appreciated the fact the the WeMo switches had no exposed wiring screws so were safer to work with. Using the WeMo app on my phone to complete the install for each switch was also easy. I just told it that I had a new light switch and it guided me through the hookup to my WiFi. Each works flawlessly with the other 3-way switches in each circuit. Initially, I was slightly apprehensive about the install but was pleased with the overall process.

I was skeptical about this, but when I put this in, it just started working. I put power to the light switch and I got a notification from Alexa that I had a new device and my HomeKit just added it too. So that was really easy to do. Works perfectly with the 3 way switch - I didn't think it would work, but it works great. I'm not a fan of the wemo app, but I use homekit and alexa for most of my interaction with this. The app has gotten better in the last year, but I still don't trust it with schedules.

These have been great especially since you only have to buy one switch for each three-way circuit. The options from GE that I looked at all required you to replace more than one. I have one switch control in the three-way lights in my hallway and another one covering the outside floodlights. It reads the voltage on the traveler wire from the old-style switches to figure out what state the light should be in very cool. Super easy to set up and I have them integrated with smart things as well
