The other routers didn't work well with comcast service. Haven't had any problems yet and everything stays connected. With the other 1 connection kept dropping and not reconnecting.

This item was a great purchase for the price and beats paying $15 a month for rental to the cable company. Plus it you shop around you can sometimes find lower prices elsewhere, at Walmart or other online locations; which of course BestBuy can match.Just have to do your research before you go shopping.CONS: It gets a bit too hot (SO KEEP IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA) and it should be plugged into a surge protector, as I had to reset it frequently when I had lightning surges. Periodically after a lightning surge I would have connectivity issues - this was greatly reduced after it was connected to an UPS. Sometimes the WPS button is a hit or miss too when you try to connected your WiFi devices to the modem via the WPS button / function.

I was being charged $10.00 a month to rent the same router from Comcast. When I found out that Best Buy sold the same router, I purchase it right away... and it works great!

Typical great modem from ARRIS production. Very easy to set up self-installation kit, and works great. The range of the wireless XFINITY router/modem is very short. I use my DLINK Router instead without issues. Note: You can disabled its router/wireless functions by admin via http://10.0.0.1 , as see a screenshot of how to disabled wifi/router - http://i.imgur.com/ZnOpmPT.png

This is an all-in-one cable modem, Wi-Fi router and telephony adapter that features a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with speeds up to 300 Mbps and dual-band technology for a reliable Wi-Fi connection. I was looking to buy this for many months, but it was not available. Now, two weeks after I bought it, it is not available again! I suspect Comcast buy all th e items to rent them to their customers. Now I have my own and I waived my $7-10 montly rental fee I was paying to comcast in the last 4 years! The cable modem is extremely easy to instal, no problems encountered and is working fine. It has two telephone outputs, four GigaBit ethernet outputs plus the wireless capability.

    NOT BAD

I just got everything connected! I spent about a half hour on the phone with Comcast support and was able to get the gateway setup with minimal issues. I was renting the exact same thing for $10 a month. People might worry about limited support if they are not renting, but Comcast is not going to leave you hanging unless the unit is completely dead. And to that note, I am an IT guy. I can tell you that you are rarely going to have a hardware issue with something like this. There are no moving parts, so save yourself some money if you have the triple play package. It will pay for itself in less than 2 years. Now to address some of those reviews about a poor wireless signal. They are correct! My wireless gateway is in my basement, so I have connected my old router upstairs to extend the wireless range in my house. Before triple play, I had a separate modem with a Netgear router. It had a much stronger signal than the Arris modem has. This isn't all bad, and here's why. If you haven't figured it out yet, Comcast uses a portion of this router to broadcast their "xfinitywifi" hotspot for anyone to use if they are a current Comcast customer. Even though it is completely segregated from my internal network, I don't want every bozo in my neighborhood sucking up my bandwidth. It sort of reminds me of buying a car. The dealers plaster their names all over the back of the car without asking. I didn't get a good enough deal from any dealer to give them free advertisement, and I am not getting that great of a deal from Comcast to offer up a free hotspot. As a matter of fact, if it was in a spot for everyone in the neighborhood to use, I would build a faraday cage around it (Look that one up!!). I am giving this gateway 4 stars for one main reason. Comcast has locked out the settings for the external DNS servers. They want you to use theirs (of course). Not a big deal to most people but prior to triple play, I was using OpenDNS for filtering out some of the garbage the internet has to "offer." There is a parental control option that you can turn on in the gateway, but it is terrible! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Comcast support told me there is no way to change it. Anyway, I am looking forward to dropping my bill another $10 a month. I hope this review helps and don't be scared to drop the rental fee!!

I bought this Router / Modem a few months ago and I love it. It also works for my phone jack as well. It's a 3 in 1 item. Super fast and easy to set up. I was able to change password and network name that comes with this modem to make it easier for me and my husband to remember. I give it two thumbs up...

I had a very old non-WiFi modem from Comcast. So I found out from Comcast what modem/router to purchase. They said this one. It is so much faster and it is connected most of the time. I don't think it is the fault of the equipment - I think it is Comcast. So I am much happier with this, and it does have Comcast's blessing - Wow!!!! Now that makes my day!!! It isn't cheap, but I hope it works for another 10 years like I had my previous modem.

Bought this after leasing telephony modem from Comcast at $10/month. Had BestBuy gift card to use so not out of pocket.Looks just like one I returned to them. Activated easily but had to call them to put it into Bridge Mode to connect with my router and support my home network. Could not Bridge it myself because firmware out of the box was outdated, support couldn't seem to do firmware update but happy to put it into Bridge Mode from their end, and shut off wireless. Two weeks later, after a major storm and 8 hour power outage, the firmware miraculously updated and I now have more control of unit. Knew it was firmware issue because unit I turned in had that feature in GUI but purchased unit did not, until after power outage! Does not come with battery for backup-I have it plugged into UPS and it worked fine when power went out, until I shut UPS off. Billed $10 for modem this week in spite of turning rental in but Comcast was quick to credit my account when I called them on it.

Pays for Itself in 24 Months

This is the same modem Comcast ships with their X1 system. It works the same, hooks up the same, is configured the same - everything is the same. You pay for it all at once instead of $10 per month, which makes sense if you're keeping Comcast for more than 24 months. 2 things to note - 1) Comcast set-up folks are pretty un-knowlegeable about setting up X1, so be prepared. Not the modem's fault. 2) If you already have a wireless router, ask the Comcast set-up person to turn off the wireless router in the modem, or ask how to get into configuration to do it yourself. You can't run this wireless router with another one. BUT if you don't have a wireless router, this is not a bad one.

I have xfinity service , and have been renting a modem for several years ... I figured out I could save ten dollars a month by getting my own modem. I looked on the Internet , and saw Best Buy had This particular modem fit for xfinity cable, and with the telephony hook up because I happened to have the triple play.. And this is the only modem that has that fetcher. A little pricey , but in the long run it will save you money. I only have had it a couple days ,but know problems , and it does have a wireless router fetcher , but you can hook up your own which I did, and not use the internal one.

I recently contacted xfinity to lower my cable/internet bill and i asked if the modem was available for purchase instead of an endless $8/mo rental fee. They told me Best Buy carried them. I went on line and purchased the same exact modem model for $199.99 with free shipping- easy as that! I ordered it with my Best Buy charge and got no interest for 6 months if paid in full. I have four more payments now and I will be all done- no more monthly rental fees- comcast makes enough money without charging outrageous rental fees on top of everything else. So, this will actually pay itself off in 2 years. I am happy with that!

I recently upgraded my Comcast cable (DoublePlay) to X1 from Xfinity TriplePlay. My previous Motorola gateway/router would not work with X1 (had the capability of setting up multiple VLANs) because it did not have telephony capabilities. When I called Xfinity support, they recommended this Arris as one that works well with X1. Product works great, but disappointed it does not allow you to have more than one VLAN. My kids invite their friends over all the time and do NOT like to give out the primary WI-FI password out to everyone due to security/vulnerability issues. Looks like I now have to go out and purchase a router to connect to the Arris and setup a VLAN through that device that the kids...and their friends....can connect to.

I bought this to avoid the rental fee from Comcast and it was the only option in the store so I don't know if reviewing would have any worth but here goes. It is reliable and fast. I haven't had to do the off/on routine since I installed it. Thankful. Getting up and running is simple except for the call to Comcast. Painful. The only downside to the product itself is the rudimentary setup interface. Docsis 3 has tons of advanced options that are not available. Oh well. It works and that's good enough. I'm only running a home network so I don't really care. If you need access to advanced features, look elsewhere or flashing a custom firmware.

Great Modem, Not Such a Great Router

Short Review: Great Modem for those that have Comcast internet and phone with them. Works well as a modem and stops the inhuman $12 charge per month of rent for one. Notice how I said great modem. The WiFi is complete rubbish that comes out of it, have 150 Mbps blast speed and was getting around 25-40. Also the range is very bad on that WiFi signal (was dropping down to 1-2 bars 20 feet away). Would recommend putting the Modem in Bridge mode and getting a solid router. I now average 170~ Mbps using the Modem in bridge mode and using an Asus - WirelessAC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Wireless Router. Would recommend to get rid of the monthly charge.
