- Answer Don't expect any miracles. These units are designed to get you through a power failure with some additional time to allow you to do a safe shutdown. That will deteriorate with battery age. The more equipment you have on it the shorter the run time. The display along with beeps keeps you alerted to whatever runtime is left. It takes a long time to completely charge a battery that has been totally discharged. Don't get me wrong these units do a great job but don't think they are going to run for hours during a power failure.

QuestionMy iMac desktop is plugged into an 11 year old GeekSquad 1500VA UPS. Power went off, the screen went black then came on a split second later at the login screen. Is this normal for UPS? What does uninterrupted really mean? I'm puzzled!

- Answer No this is not normal. Uninterrupted means there is a battery inside that keeps power into whatever you have plugged into it. The length of time it continues to provide power depends on a number of things, but most should provide at a minimum 15 minutes for you to save what you are working on and shutdown the computer safely. I would say yours is bad especially if it is 11 years old. Batteries do not last forever and it is either time to replace the batteries in the UPC you have or buy a new one, which would be the wise choice as battery technology is much better today than it was 11 years ago.

QuestionWould this be suitable to use as a battery backup for a wood pellet stove?

- Answer I don't see why it would not technically work. Since wood pellet stoves consume such low amount of energy (for the blower I assume) it should not be a problem from the power. HOWEVER, I would be concerned that batteries and heat sources are not really friends. If you did use it for this purpose I would be consider how close it is to the fire. The unit already gets quite warm in normal operation. Personally I would not do it.

- Answer I have never found any of these to be noisy. Mine sits under my desk and the only noise is when there is a power outage. Then it beeps to let you know.

- Answer First off, all the answers provided are not wrong but also do not touch the fact that this wiring fault light also comes on if there is a fault with the UPS itself. I recently had to replace my UPS due to a wiring issue as it will also behave this way if it has an internal short (fault) that connects the output of the UPS to its input (via the internal fault). Best test is to try other outlets and if the light is still on, its the unit itself. My UPS would immediately shut off whenever power fluctuated. I pulled the batteries and tested then and they were still in good shape but anything power was lost from the wall, the unit would shut off due to this short.

- Answer I use mine specifically for my cpap machine and it definitely works well with mine. Many times my electricity went down and my backup performed well. It does the trick every time.

QuestionHow long would this power a typical wifi router

- Answer I have a 1000VA model from the same company (linked as a recommendation), which is powering only my DSL modem/WiFi router from the battery backup. It's indicating a runtime of around 390 minutes, so the 1500VA model should be able to do about 1.5 times that -- call it 9.5 hours! (My 1500VA one is powering my desktop.) I've had it power the modem/WiFi router once for about 2 hours so far, with it still showing over 100 minutes of runtime when the power came back on.

- Answer I'm not aware of a way to set them all up for surge/battery. I own more than one of these and all of them are configured the same. I try to use the non-battery plugs for things that don't lose all memory if the power goes not.

- Answer Advertised run time at full load is 3 minutes; at half load, 11 minutes. Now this unit has a nominal 1500VA rating, but it's only good for 900 watts full load (per CyberPower site). Your PS is rated at 1000 watts, but it's almost certainly not fully loaded. I'd say 3 minutes is a very safe time to shut down and anything beyond 6 minutes is pushing things. You could easily be good for 8+ minutes when the UPS is new, but that would fall off over time. All UPS run times are guesses after a few weeks in service, so I'm going pretty conservative here. Putting a meter on your system power line (a small Kill-A-Watt meter is about $25) could refine your actual power draw, but even that will vary, depending on what you're doing. A precise UPS runtime number will be precisely wrong.

- Answer Hello Nate, If you need to use an extension cord with the unit, to stay within the terms of the warranty the extension cord will need to be 14AWG or thicker and can only have a single output. The power draw should not be an issue. Thank you for submitting your question!
