Questionwhat is the difference between a Hamilton Beach # 49976 & a model # 49940 ?

- Answer I know the question is old, but for anyone else with the same question: I received both model #s for Christmas, and according to the boxes, there is no difference. Every word on the packaging is the same. The only difference is there is a slight color difference in the packaging. The only thing I can think of is they are for different re-sellers. The 49940 came from Sam's Club, and the 49976 (same as Best Buy) came from Amazon. There also appears to be a price difference.

QuestionDo you have to fill the single cup reservoir every time you want to brew a single cup? In one of the pictures its shows filling it..and it doesn't really say in the description.

- Answer The answer is Yes only does one cup at a time. One large cup of water which is what I use for 3 scoops of coffee fills the reservoir. But I love it because you can use the K cup or they give you the other fitting for your own coffee. Plus my husband using the other side for is pot of coffee...two coffee makers for the price of one...got to love it. OH and the coffee comes out boiling hot which is great...hate these makers that come out Luke warm...

QuestionThe description says the filter type is permanent, which would lead one to believe it is a mesh one that is washable... yet the picture shows a paper filter being used. Can someone please clarify about this feature ?

- Answer For the carafe, a paper filter is necessary as it is not mesh. The smaller filter, for use with the single cup, is mesh, but we still use the tiny filters with that, too.

QuestionWe used our single serve side for about 3 months then it stopped working. Said the needle was clogged. I removed the needle as per the manual and cleaned it, but it still doesn't brew. Anyone have any answers on how to fix the problem?

- Answer Response from Hamilton Beach team below is a flat out lie. This is a common occurrence. Same thing happened to my machine. Water won't pump from reservoir to cup. Not a needle issue as it was not clogged and I don't use the K-cups, only the adapter for ground coffee. Unfortunately mine is out of warranty and now can only use carafe side.

QuestionMy wife doesn't drink coffee but loves tea, hot chocolate etc. What happens If I brew a pot of coffee, & she wants to use the other side to make a cup of hot water for her tea etc? Are you able to turn the main unit back on to keep the coffee hot?

QuestionAfter adding amount of water to the single serve side, do you have to wait a long time for the single cup side water to heat before Brewing a cup, And can you fill the single cup side the night before so its ready right away for you in the morning.

- Answer It will take a minute but not much longer than that to heat up the water. Yes, I sometimes place the water in the single serve side at night and place the Kcup in the chamber so all I have to do is hit the button in the morning.

- Answer Yes it comes with its own adapter to use your own coffee. In other words you’re not stuck with using the Keurig coffee pods.

- Answer Regular sized filter. I use a Melita filter that works fine. Use a flat bottom filter, do not use a cone type.

QuestionWe bought our machine 6 months ago. All of a sudden it is leaking about 2 cups of the water out the bottom of the machine every time we use it to brew a pot of coffee, which is once daily. We use only bottled water and I checked for a plug. ????

QuestionCan you just get a single cup of hotwater?

- Answer Yes you can. The amount depends on how much you put into the single serve tank. Watch how much you put in because it brews that entire amount. If you fill the tank 14oz. you will get 14oz. so make sure your cup can hold that amount.
