  • QuestionWho bills you for the monthly taxes?? OOMA?? The State?? The County? Who do you pay?

    Asked by MikeInKennesaw.

    • Answer You get one bill from OOMA & somehow they pay any and all taxes & fees from that. I have their basic service & it costs me $5.64/mo. My AT&T landline bill was over 10X that per month. After I switched, AT&T kept calling offering phone & internet combo packages & I kept asking what part of $6/mo vs $60/mo don't you understand? I think they finally caught on. Also, OOMA will include their premium package for 30 days (or maybe 60 days) at no cost. Normally it's $10/mo extra but when I went to cancel it they offered it at $5/mo. Wish I had accepted, but $10/mo really isn't bad. Also you have to call them at the end of the trial period to cancel the service or they assume you want it & will automatically bill you for it. There can be a slight lag initially when someone one calls but it's normal after the first 5-10 secs. It's most noticeable when telemarketers call so it may be something with their calling system or process. For me it's a small price to pay to save over $55/mo.

  • QuestionThis is all new to me....I assume I would cancel my PhonePower service and just use Ooma with my existing cordless phone plugged into the unit? Am I able to use wireless home phones as well?

    Asked by Dee.

    • Answer Yes, I canceled my phone service with Comcast. I still used my AT&T base unit with 3 other wireless phones. It works perfect. That was one of my concerns also. I thought I might have to buy some VOIP phones. Not so. I tried using the wi-fi connection with the Ooma 2 but I didn’t like the connection. It’s been almost a year so I can’t recall how bad it was but I connected my router to the Ooma using an Ethernet cable and it works great. So all you need to do is then connect your phone to the Ooma 2 using a phone cable. Follow the setup procedures. I moved my original phone number to my new Ooma service. It took about a week so don’t cancel your phone service until it switches over. I hope this helps.

  • QuestionIs there an activation fee?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer There is no activation fee. You will have to pay what the monthly taxes on the service would otherwise be. Ooma also offers a premium service. Be careful, as you will be automatically enrolled unless you opt out,. There is a $39 plus tax charge if you want to port your existing phone number.

  • QuestionIs there a delay is service when upgrading from an older model to the current model?

    Asked by SUBVET.

    • Answer No there is no cost. I just upgraded to this model from an Ooma base that I’ve been using for 10 years. The one thing you MUST do is call the customer service number to upgrade your device if you’re a current Ooma customer. They don’t say this anywhere in the installation and setup materials. They tell you to do everything through the app or online but if you do it will just set up a new account as if you are a new subscriber. It’s much easier if you just call the number and get the customer service person to switch over your account to the newer equipment. It takes about 16-24 hrs for the changeover to go through then you get a phone call telling you to connect the new box and you’re good to go.

  • QuestionCan you add your cell number to these plans when establishing service?

    Asked by chitown.

    • Answer The Ooma device simultaneously rings both your home phones and your cell phone if you choose. Or simply ring your cell phone. There are several options depending on what your requirements are. To ring your cell phone. use either the Telo app or call forwarding without changes to your cell plan. My Telo is configured to ring at home and simultaneously on my cell using the mobile application. It forwards calls to my cell number if the Telo device is offline. The call forward can be to any number.

  • QuestionDo you pay for porting a number? What is the cost if you need two lines

    Asked by Jack.

    • Answer You get to port your number in for free when you first start the service but you have to call the customer service first. If you want to port in your current number you cannot do it on the setup app that they tell you to use. If you don’t care about porting then you can set up the service through the Ooma Telo app from any App Store. When you do it that way the app gets you to enter in your area code and you get to pick a phone number that you like from a list. As for the second line, if you pay for the $9.99 Ooma Premier service you get a second phone number included for free along with caller ID, telemarketer blocking, call forwarding, 3 way calling and other features. For me, with the Ooma premier service and all the taxes and fees my phone bill is only $16 a month. Without the Premier Service it was a little over $5 but you don’t get names or the caller ID and the other features if you just have basic service so for me it was well worth the extra $9.99. Additionally, with the Ooma Telo Air you can use it with the Ooma Security system. It can be controlled or make calls with Amazon Alexa as well. To add functionality you can purchase a 4G cellular adaptor that will let you connect the Ooma Telo to 4G cell towers in the event of power failure at home. The adaptor has a battery in it so you can use the battery as a power backup for your home phone service. For the cell service feature there is an $11 service charge I believe. I hope this helps.

  • QuestionIf you get this, what do you actually pay for service? I mean, I know you would be paying your internet service, but do you pay a "phone" bill, too? Not sure how that works.

    Asked by George.

    • Answer Ooma requires an internet connection, so you would pay for that service, and the only other charge is for the related taxes on your phone service. My tax is $7.12 in my area, and no other charge. You can check to see what the phone taxes are in your area, as they are different depending on your location. I am very pleased with the Ooma. Works great!

  • QuestionI am moving can I just bring ooma to the new house where I will have a different internet provider and connect to that wifi and be immediately good to go with the same phone number? Or will it be more complicated than that?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Yes, it is that easy. You'll want to log in to ooma.com to update you home address so 911 service can find you in an emergency.

  • QuestionCan my handset be plugged directly into the telo unit rather than using a phone jack?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer The telo unit has a specific place to plug in a phone so yes, you do not need a phone jack. I have a Panasonic phone with an answering system plugged in although the telo unit has an answering system itself.
