Solid AT&T service. Basic / free plan provides 200 minutes, 500 texts and 200MB (250MB if adding 10 friends) of LTE data per month.
Provided you configure your device to restrict background data for all apps (except those with a critical need) and you set a hard data cap (Android devices), this plan is a great fit for those with minimal use.
One thing to note is that the calls are to be made using their app and are VOIP. Provided you have a good signal, a decent phone (specs), and are not in a fast moving vehicle, you should have a good experience.
Speaking of which, if done properly, use Google Hangouts to expand your calling ability (unlimited). Just keep in mind your data when using the FreedomPop SIM.
All in all, a great option for those wanting free service and whom do not use their phone much.

To be on the free plan, you should uncheck everything when setting it up. Besides the price of the SIM card, there is still an activation fee of about $1. Make sure to keep track of your usage to prevent extra charges. Runs on AT&T network but in order to make calls or texts, you need to install the Freedompop messaging app. Doesn't really work with the native dialer of your phone.

It does advertise free data per month, of 200mb, which is not much. However, the initial setup was a bit of a hassle, and they have all these extra fees, and stuff which you need to cancel before you get charged soon as the next monthly billing cycle approaches.

needed a cheap plan for short term - 3-4 months and this kit did the job perfectly. the provider leverages at&t's network so you have good coverage and if you are super dependent on great call quality - this is not for you as calls are VOIP with 4G connection.

Took less than 5 minutes to activate and go on line. Getting 200mins and 200 MB data for my spare phone at no cost, which is great. Data speed is ok and calls can only be made from freedompop app, which is not great. Hey, it's free, so can't complain too much.

Need to pay $0.99 for activation fees, got charged $10 for top-up, after that, you should read website on certain things you need to do deactivate to get the most basic and free plan. By default, will be subscribed to a few paid services, so, just be careful with the fineprints.
And you need to set your phone APN (it's quite easy)
Overall good if you are really low data plan user (200MB)/month.

This was a pretty good buy but you still need to activate the SIM card and if you use free plan and overuse data they charge you $20 and they don't notify you when your at 100% data usage.

The setup for data to work was very difficult but other than that its a great value. Calls do not work without wifi if you are out of data.

This is a great card if you want basic coverage cheap. When you activate, they try to upsells you. Just keep saying no and they will finally understand. Listen closely so they don't slip anything extra on to your account. Overall, great for a low usage person.

It take a little bit of time to setup but once it is done, it does work perfectly. You do need to restart the phone once done setup as the messaging and LTE might not work without rebooting the phone.
Also, in order to use the free basic plan, you need to uncheck those trial that popup during setup or else, they going to charge you if you forget to cancel it. Better be safe than sorry :) .
PS: I activate it online on my computer.

I have started the new service: Very confusing setup. Selected new number, after selecting got error message and had to resect three times to finally got a number.
Got charged 3 times for that without my authorization.
Contacted customer service. Accused me of changing my numbers on purpose.
Cannot use native dialer, no iMessage no FaceTime with your cell number. Only LTE, no 4G/ 3G fallback in rural areas.
Don’t recommend, will most likely cancel and go with a real provider.

Sim Card for Freedom Pop

Freedom Pop phone service is "OK". My original purchase was so that I could we could have a free service for an emergency phone for my grandson. You cannot beat the rates but you have to pay extra for everything, including customer service. Customer service is all via email you cannot speak to a representative unless you are activating a new account.
They use VOIP so it is a little different than what everyone is used to. Once you have everything set up and working it is fine.

Got this for kid. Easy to setup with an ATT phone, gives free calls and texts. Be careful of the data, its easy to go over the 200mb free, and they will charge $10 for the month.

Freedompop service works very badly. Often it's impossible to call, and more often imposdible yo receive calls. With the global plan, it's impossible yo receive Sms from outside the Usa. And if no data is used during 1 month, you are charged 0.99$. When you are outside the Usa, you can no more call or receive calls even withe the wifi. Plus if you can use the wifi outside the Usa, you will be charged 0.99$, as you can use no data! So I cancelled my account immediately before being charged, because automatic top-up is not less than 10$.

I purchased this expecting to sign up for the free account and get the bonus data from Freedom Friends, but FreedomPop changed the terms of use immediately after I purchased this. No longer worth the trouble to sign up for an account (the data given per month isn't even enough for basic phone use).

FREEDOMPOP likes to say it's free and have cheap plans but they have individual prices for every little thing. If it sounds too good to be true it usually isn't true. Check out for yourself at fresompop.com

Quick setup and it only costs $1 to activate. Activation was without hassle, no hidden fees. I use my own device. It's cheaper to buy in Bestbuy than anywhere else.
