I was in the market to get a new DVD player. My old one broke. I was surprised how much they went up by because it’s been several years since I’ve had one but if you want a great DVD for a reasonable price this is the one to get and for those that say that it freezes up when you Play DVDs or whatever just plug in a Internet cord and you’re good. I haven’t had one issue playing Netflix or my DVDs on this DVD player. I have played 100 dvds in this blue ray player Great buy thank you sony and it works great with my sound bar

First off, great player overall that is very capable. Aesthetics are nice too. The simplistic minimalist approach. These are all positives. Now come the downsides, which was a disappointment when having a CD/SACD/DVD music listening session and the native features this player provides. The biggest downside, no control buttons in the front other than power on and eject! I would rather the manufacturer place simple tiny round buttons like the Panasonic DP-UB9000 at this price point. It would sooo help not having to reach for the remote just to play, pause, stop, forward, search, etc. Remote and streaming connectivity is good. A bit slow with reading, tray opening and closing, and other reactive controls, especially this day and age. With regards to streaming, very minimalist approach again with only Netflix, YouTube and maybe one more. Not a purposely built streamer which is fine by me since I use Apple TV anyway. But it is nice to have addition that handy at times. It would have a great bonus had Sony developed it a bit more to act as a good replacement for the Apple TV though for those who don't use the Apple ecosphere and to sell more Sony related services or products that replace a standalone streamer for sure!

      Him, RockZeKazbah,

Thanks for the review! We appreciate all the comments and feedback, as Sony strives to deliver the best quality products. We can definitely pass the word on and consider the ideas on the buttons and the device's design for future references. On the other hand, we are glad you are enjoying the Blu-ray player, as you can play 4K Ultra HD movies at 4x the resolution of full 1080p HD, letting you watch your favorite scenes with a level of detail and clarity like never before.

Thank you for choosing Sony, have a great day!

I recently purchased the Sony 4K Blu-ray disc player, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer! This player has enhanced my movie-watching experience to a whole new level. With its built-in Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity, I can easily stream my favorite movies and other content in breathtaking high quality. One feature that impressed me is the super quick start mode. It eliminates any unnecessary hassle and allows me to dive right into my entertainment without delay. Whether it's a movie night with friends or a solo binge-watching session, this player keeps up with my pace effortlessly. One of the standout qualities of this Sony 4K Blu-ray disc player is its dual HDMI outputs. It enables me to connect it simultaneously to my LG C1 65-inch TV and another screen, making it a perfect match for my home theater setup. The picture quality is stunning, and the colors truly come to life on my TV. I can confidently say that I love this Sony 4K Blu-ray disc player and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking an exceptional streaming and movie-watching experience. It's a reliable and user-friendly device that enhances both picture and sound quality, ensuring every movie night is a memorable one.

I read a lot of reviews on this player and it sounded great. Got it on sale which made it even better, otherwise I would have bought a different one for cast. Dimensions and design match perfectly with an Onkyo receiver. First time I played it for a few minutes just to test the connections it froze. Second time I played it to watch a full movie it did fine, but while watching the extras, it had been playing for about 3 hours and maybe it overheated because it froze again. After just these two uses I'm starting to lose confidence. This was to replace a very low end Sony blu ray player that quit working after just 2 years. Not sure if Sony is as good of quality as they used to be.

This Sony UBP X800M2 DVD player is rated number 1 vs a similar offering from Panasonic. The sony provides supperior sound and viseo reproduction in nearly all DVD sound and video formatss available on regular definition 720 P, High Defintion 1080p, UHD 4K, and someday 8k. It will upgrade lower definition video to higher resolution. The reviews say it is over engineered to reduce noise. What this means is the DVD mechanical operation is silent with no vibration creating no noise interference and since the mechanics are so well built you will enjoy this player for years to come.

It was easy to set up, however I wish Sony would provide better guidance about the PCM setting. We sold a inexpensive Sony Blu-ray player thinking that a higher end model wouldn’t have the same issues. We had rented countless movies only not to be able to watch them because we were unable to hear voices, only background noise. After googling and reading numerous articles, many of which I had no idea what they were talking about as I’m not an avid audiophile, I discovered the importance of the PCM setting. Other than that, performs exceptionally good!!!

Such a beast of a 4K machine. Plays great quality blu rays and 4ks. DVD can be a hit or miss depending on the grade but this is an upscaling machine. I opted to use 2 separate HDMI cables for my receiver and TV… totally worth it. I chose this version over the step down for the better build and the Bluetooth abilities. I actually set up my headphones to it and holy smokes it was awesome. I can’t comment on the app support cuz I just use my smart TV to handle those. I can say that I updated the system straight from the box via WIFI and had no issues. There is a blu ray feature that you must leave off if you don’t want this player to skip… something about Blu-ray data something… can’t recall but once I shut it off, I had no issues with freezing (I turned it on when I first set up the player and thought I bought a defective unit. Quick google search fixed it and no issues since). Get this player if you have a Sony or ARC set up on your receiver. I can use my Sony tv remote for the player and vice versa.

I like the layout of the remote control. The buttons aren’t jammed together on a tiny devise. Picture quality, sound and navigation are solid. Blue ray and 4k disc quality is so much better (especially sound) than streaming and you don’t realize it until you go back to using the old fashioned physical media.

Decent 4k Blu-ray player. On screen display is basic. Remote does not control TV volume or power off. Only three streaming apps - Amazon Prime, YouTube, Netflix. But 4k Blu-rays look and sound amazing! The player is quiet when spinning discs. SACD support.

This fantastic Sony product allowed me to consolidate two dvd players into one. Previously I was using another Sony Blu-Ray to take care of dvds and SACD audio and a Samsung Dvd player for my DVD Audio collection. Now I have one that does it all and at a very reasonable price and one less piece of AV sitting on the shelf. ********Highly Recommended*********

I was researching for quite a while on which 4K media player to purchase because I felt my PS5 was lacking in potential for physical 4K content. After comparing this and the 700 I’m glad that I made the choice that I did!

Improvement of earlier x800, the x800m2 adds Dolby Vision, Bravia Mode, etc... The Dolby Vision is a bit tricky since it needs to be applied manually in screen settings. For those with Sony Bravia displays the Bravia Mode located in screen settings seems to greatly improve picture. For my ear the Sonic's seem to be improved also.

I bought the Sony X 700 and just wasn't fully impressed. However, the Sony X 800 went on sale, so I decided to reteun the X 700, and when my X 800 arrived, it literally took me 7 minutes to install and connect to wi-fi. The picture is stunning. First, this is much more sturdy and heavier than the X 700. I played a couple of different 4k movies, and I felt like I was actually there. This is probably a little better than my PS5, not Pro, original PS5. Are there even better 4k/Blu ray players out there? Yes, but the X 800 is amazing. Mjst have.

I like this 4k player it not only plays 4k blu-rays but also blu-rays and DVDs, plus SACDs and DVD Audio discs. I hate that in this price range it lacks a front display, so that you have no clue what chapter or time in the movie your at. However this takes the load off y PS5 disc edition that I previously used as a 4k player also. SACDs sound great as well. I use my Logitech harmony 700 to controller everything as intended. You shouldn't have to spend 500.00 or more for a 4k player to get a front panel display, rediculous.
