When I unpacked the DVD-VCR Combo, I saw that there were NO INSTRUCTIONS nor ANY MANUAL included. I called the store and, after being transferred to several departments, NO ONE could help me.
I then tried to contact TOSHIBA, but all I got was their website - NO PHONE NUMBER! I downloaded the manual which was extremely complicated. What I did learn from this was there SHOULD HAVE BEEN additional cables that were NOT INCLUDED!
I also went to the store where NO ONE knew how to connect and set this up!
This machine is of no value to me if I cannot connect it to my TV and learn how to use it.
(What I really want is for someone to come to my home and set this up correctly)!

Thank you for the review, Naminu18, and sorry to hear that you've had difficulty setting up your DVR620.
Please see page 22 of the User's Guide at support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=2842852 for details on how to make VCR and DVD connections.
If cables were missing from the box, I believe Best Buy will be able to provide them.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

if you're willing to put in the work, this machine will pay for itself many times over... just one minute at a time. everybody has seen electronics stores or even groupons for transferring old VHS tapes to DVD. $20 per VHS tape? please. if you need 10 done, this machine would be the same cost. it's a no-brainer.
the only catch is you have to transfer everything in real time. this isn't like burning a dvd where you pop it in and have a finished copy within 4 minutes. no no. if your VHS is 2 hours and 48 minutes, you have to wait the entire 2 hours and 48 minutes for it to "record" into the machine's memory, but then the actual burning of the dvd is super quick. that's the nature of the beast when it comes to analog formats, though.
if you're patient, and would rather sacrifice a few hours of your time reliving the old memories you're trying to preserve anyway, i couldn't recommend this machine any more enthusiastically. enjoy!

This product is great for the price. With my old LG recorder when I typed titles I had every letter available. With this product you have to remember which number to use for each letter.

What makes this unit excellent is it will record + or - DVD disks. Some will not do that. I always use the + disks in order to be able to make additional copies for storage use and backups.

It is on the pricey side. The instructions are a little tough to follow. And it seem like you have to have the remote. I guess with all the options. It would be nice to see a push button option to do what you want to do instead of many steps. It takes about steps to record vhs to dvd.
But there is a lot you can do with this unit. Once you figure it out. It works great. My wife like it. She has recorded old shows you cant find any more. The quality seems good so far.

I have a lot of old home videos, some from ancient VHS recorders (back from the days when they first came out with "portable versions" with multi-pound battery packs through the evolution to the digital realm of the mini. In addition, A couple of decades ago I converted to VHS (using a film capture editor) a number of family "heirloom" 8 and 16 millimeter films made beginning in the 1930's. In the past few years I had a few VHS tapes converted professionally to DVD format before they degraded and before the inevitable absence of VHS machines from the marketplace. So recently I decided that I should begin the conversions myself (too expensive to do hundreds of videos through commercial services). At first I tried using my computer and video capture conversion devices. It was tedious and challenging. So I decided to go "lower" tech and bought this VHS/DVD player recorder. I works well - though the picture quality is a bit less than the commercial product versions; but the quality for these videos is satisfactory. The conversion using the dubbing mode is relatively simple, although the manual lacks some specificity as to certain portions of the process. Online help (Google searches and Utube) provided the necessary explanations, so all is well. I've converted numerous VHS tapes now and they are working fine. For a simple method of analog to DVD transfer, this is a good and efficient means to accomplish this task.

plays VHS and DVD's very well. Beautiful picture. easy to hook up with an HDMI cable. with the other cables forget it if your not tech savy . The other features like recording a VHS onto a DVD, editing your recordings, formatting a DVD, finishing your recording, etc. are great if you can figure out how to use it. I tried to read the directions and gave up. Couldn't even get a DVD to format so I could record something. Guess I need some young person to show me how to use it. It's very stylish. Looks great sitting on the entertainment center. would recommend to anyone who is good with electronics . If you're not , buy something simple and pay someone to copy your VHS tapes to DVD s

Bought this DVD recorder for my wife so that she could transfer all the old family VHS tapes that we have to DVD. We have had it a month, and after I showed her how to use it (she's not the most technically capable person), she's been using it on her own ever since. She says that she checks every DVD to make sure that all went well, and I have yet to hear a complaint or cry for help. So it seems to be a very easy machine to use. I purchased an HDMI mini cable for our newer camcorder that doesn't have a tape, so when she's done with the VHS tapes, she'll start doing the transfers from the camcorder to DVD (instead of using the cumbersome camcorder software). My own experience with the recorder the first time we used it showed me that the VHS tapes' tracking should be steady prior to recording, and that's no easy task for any machine with old tapes and this machine handled it ok.

met all my expectations for convenience of operation. Playing programs recorded on other machines worked very well. Rewinding tapes is a kittle slow and the sudden tape stop gives me concern for wearing out or damaging tape. Haven't tried recording dvd yet but playing dvd is great.

I purchased this vcr and dvd combo player about 1 year ago. I purchased it to replace one that I had owned for years. It was worked great ever since my purchase date. I don't have any problems with any media that I am trying to play. It was a little pricey when I found it online but a different store had it for a lower price and Best Buy was great and honored it. It is easy to set up and operate.

I bought this for my wife who is not really good with electronics. We had a ton of old vcr tapes she wanted to convert to dvd. I set this up and walked her through the 1st tape. She has not completed almost 50 tapes to dvd. One thing to remember is you have to finalize the disc once it's done or it won't play in other dvd players. Overall, very pleased with this product.

If you still have a few of those pesky VHS tapes around and haven't made the step to Blu-Ray, this is your machine. Upconversion on the DVD gives you near HD quality. The VHS player is, well VHS. Plug in the power cord and hook up the HDMI and you are ready to go. Make sure you use the HDMI to get the best picture.

First off, I will say it's nice to have both a VCR and a DVD player in a single unit, and it's also very nice that the DVD player doubles as a DVD recorder, BUT! It cannot convert VHS tapes to DVDs using its VCR and DVD recorder. If you want to convert your VHS movies to DVDs you will most likely need to also purchase what's known as a video enhancer in order to do this. All in all not a deal breaker but very annoying...

The first thing you need to know about the Toshiba DVR620KU is that it has a flip-down panel just below the brightwork-line in the photo that reveals an extensive set of controls, so you are NOT limited to the well-laid-out remote control for every function other than turning the unit on.
The second thing you need to know is that it will NOT record on CD-Rs or CD-RWs (though it will play them); it is limited to DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD-RW. But it will also record to videocassettes and will go either way between disks and tapes.
There is an extensive set of editing features which can be more trouble to use than they're worth; you'll have to decide. I have yet to try recording a disk, but my deck works as great on playback as anyone could want.

I had to return the Toshiba VCR/DVD recorder when I bought it as it was making a terrible mechanical noise when a videocassette tape was inserted. Best Buy exchanged the defective recorder for a new one, and I've been very pleased with its performance on the VCR side. Great picture and sound. I haven't tried the DVD recorder to record DVDs yet but DVDs play great so far as well. As you may be aware, no new VCRs will be manufactured, so if you are in need of one to transfer your home videos to DVDs, or if you just want a VCR to watch videotapes on, this is a great choice.

I have a large library of VHS tapes that I'm trying to convert to DVD's. This unit handles a number of different formats when it comes to DVD recording which is nice not to mention the fact it has Firewire so I can also dub my Digital 8 and Hi8 videos from my Camcorder. That's a boom for my video editing and production work. I had some issues with this unit that required me to replace it after a year and a half but thanks to my Geek Squad Protection Plan I was able to replace it for free with the same model. Since then this DVD/VHS combo unit is working just fine with no further issues. I'm very satisfied with this product.
