QuestionWhat does the EC code mean and can the unit be repaired with this problem. My FAD704DWD unit is only 14 months old and has stopped pulling moisture out of the air. Fan works, filter is clean, power source is fine.

- Answer I have had 4 of these replaced under warranty with the EC code. The EC code means the sealed system and condenser is defective and the unit is not repairable. The coils are either freezing and stop functioning or just not condensing at all. You can temporarily reset it by unplugging it, but the unit is going bad regardless and will quit functioning pretty quickly afterwards. Frigidaire warranties the sealed system for 5 years and will replace it for you, if you contact them. Unfortunately, these units are not particularly reliable as I have not had any unit last longer than 3 yrs.

QuestionAfter the desired humidity level is acheived, does the unit turn off and then turn back on again once the humidity level goes above the desired level?

- Answer Hello, Great inquiry! The dehumidifier automatically shuts off when selected amount of moisture has been removed from the air and will automatically turn the compressor back on if the humidity level goes above the desired setting. Thank you.

- Answer Yes, but as with any high wattage device, you need to be aware of the cord length and the gauge of the wire. The safest bet is to use a cord designed for air conditioners. What should you look for? A grounded cord (3 prong), 14 gauge wire or lower if the length is 10 feet or less. You could go with a longer cord of up to 25 foot in length but the wire gauge would need to be 12 gauge or less (the lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire). Hope this helps.

QuestionOn many units, just not Frigidaire, I read that Fan's rarely shut off, when the condenser does. Can the fan shut down simultaneously?Seems like the fan should shut down when the condenser does to save energy. Is there a way to have the fan shut down also?

- Answer Greg, thank you for your inquiry! Our new dehumidifiers are designed to run at a consistent speed for a longer period of time using less energy. Appliances use more energy when they constantly turn off and on. Our dehumidifiers are designed to allow the fan components inside to run after the compressor turns off. This allows the internal components to cool and the machine to rest even though you may still hear something running. We do hope this information is helpful. - Answer Yes - and I did. The dehumidifier we had before this one was from the 1970's. The home's previous owners actually left us the owner's manual and receipt. It ran nearly non-stop for 40-some-odd years. But they don't build things like that anymore. The research I did on Consumer Reports and other review sites indicate the life expectancy these days is maybe 3 years at best. I got the Best Buy warranty to help cover what it seems will be the inevitable breakdown of the unit.

QuestionI bought this about 3 years ago and it has worked flawlessly. As of a couple of weeks ago, I can’t get the water bin to come out. It is stuck with no way to get it out. I’m hoping there is an easy way to fix it without breaking it.

To remove the bucket, press sides if bucket gently to unclip the bucket from the unit, use the front handle to pull the bucket away from the unit, until you are able to grasp the top handle to carry. - Answer No. A pump is not included with this unit. A hose can be connected to a floor drain.

QuestionI have a model fad704dwd the unit won’t shut off when the humidity level gets below what the humidity level is set at. It has increased my electric usage considerably. It should be shutting off because we only have to empty the bucket every 3 days .

- Answer My Frigidaire 70 runs pretty much constantly and shuts off for just a few minutes to maintain a humidity of 55%. I'm also concerned what effect this might have on my electric bill. Since mine drains directly into a sump pump I can't put a figure on how often I would need to empty the tank. My basement is about 2,000 sq.ft. and is dry to start with, so the machine is only pulling moisture from any air which gets into the basement.

QuestionThe humidity setting is now at CO when it is normally at 50%. When I pushed the button to increase the level, it didn't beep and didn't go up. When I push the down button, it beeps but doesn't change. I have reset it by taking the plug out. Any thoughts?

If your dehumidifier is icing up, you may want to raise the humidity % to a higher level as the unit may be working “too hard” for “too long” and needs to stabilize. You may also want to move the unit to a higher location, since heat rises, and the floor would be the coldest area of the room.
