Q: QuestionI am replacing a GE Profile model JE1860SB 1100 watt microwave. Which microwave models will fit in the same trim kit with a cabinet space 26 in deep? The GE trim kit opening I have is 24 x 12 7/8 in. I want to use the same trim kit.

• A:Answer *** UPDATE *** This is what the install looks like using the trim kit for the GE JE1860SB and the LG LMC2075ST microwave. Overall the fit is good. The one slight imperfection is that the LG microwave sticks out about 1/2" farther that the GE unit did, and hence is no longer perfectly flush. This could perhaps be remedied if was willing to modify the trim kit but this solution was good enough for me. As mentioned in a previous post, I did have to shim the left side (between the microwave and the trim kit stand) about 1/4".

Q: QuestionWhat is the replacement model for PEM31SM3SS which is built in above the counter. It includes a trim piece. Manufactured in 8/2010 serial #RT919237B Will the above model trim piece be reused? Will the existing opening need modified?

• A:Answer We just replaced a GE Profile JEM31 with a GE Profile PEM31. The installer didn't think it would fit and just left the unit and trim kit w/ us and said 'good luck'. However, in our case the replacement unit and trim kit fits the cabinet nicely. We used the new hardware to create rails for the PEM31 and attached the rail guides to the microwave. Easy. The chrome-looking high-quality plastic trim front actually gets screwed into the wood cabinetry around the opening for the microwave. In other words the new unit sticks out further than the JEM31 did but in our case that's also no problem. I've never installed a microwave before but this just took a few minutes. Screws were included and the directions were clear. Attaching are photos of the finished product. Good luck!

Q: QuestionI see customer photos of this microwave installed with no clearance on the sides, top or back. Are they risking damaging the microwave by installing it this way? Could I have it touching a cabinet on the right side, but not the left or bottom?

• A:Answer I just replaced my old GE microwave with this one. It fits into the shelf we have for it, though there is no real clearance on left, right, or bottom, and it is pushed back all the way. There is clearance above, though, which should allow ventilation of any heat from the back. It appears to work fine, and you should be okay. (However, the general installation instructions recommend having 3 inches clearance on each side and on top, and 1 inch in the rear.) The new model is slightly wider and deeper than the old one, so that the old trim kit does not fit around it. We shall try without trim. While expensive, this model is still shallow enough to fit in our shelf, so we don't have to sacrifice a lot of counter space.

• A:Answer Hello adny - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The replacement microwave to the JEM31SF01 is the PEM31SFSS. However, if you are going to build it into a cabinet, then the JX827SFSS 27" trim kit or the JX830SFSS 30" trim kit are required. The cutout dimensions for these trim kits are: 15" +/- 1/8" high x 24-7/8" +/- 1/8" wide. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

What you are seeing on the model in your home is the complete model number which includes an engineering digit which is added during production. This would be the proper replacement model. The dimensions of your current microwave are: 11-3/16 in high x 23-25/32 in wide x 12-9/32 in deep. The new microwave would be: 12-1/8 in high x 24 in wide x 12-7/8 in deep. The PEM31DFWW uses the JXA019K under counter mounting kit. If this model does not work, then we recommend using the JEM3072SHSS which is 10-1/8 in high x 17-1/4 in wide x 13 in deep, and it also uses the JXA019K under counter mounting kit.
