- Answer In most cases yes... Ooma calls it "Porting" you old number. My previous service was CenturyLink. When you set up your Ooma, you select a temporary number from what I thought was a fairly wide range of available numbers. You can then put in a request to port your old number. In my case, the whole operation, from request to when my old number was active on the Ooma was about a week, but they warn that it could be 3 to 4 weeks. There is a cost for this, however. You can choose to prepay for a year of their premium service for about $120 and they will port your old number for free. Or you can choose to pay about $40 to just port the number and stay with their basic service (which is free, except for taxes, which are about $5 per month). I hope this helps!

- Answer Yes you need internet. Are you asking what the cost of internet is? That depends on your provider and level of service. The cost of using the phone itself is nothing, except for taxes as the other answerer touched on. That cost is minimal. I believe it will cost extra for international calls but check Ooma for details.

- Answer Yes. But, you must notify Ooma Telo Customer Service you are replacing the Ooma Telo Unit with a new one and supply them with the new Ooma Telo Unit's Serial Number and MAC address. They do the magic to complete the installation.

QuestionDo I have to cancel my phone service with my present carrier before attempting to "port" my number to my Ooma device?

- Answer Do NOT cancel your service with your current provider! On the ooma website request a number port and provide them with the current number you wish to port. You will need additional info including account number and port PIN from your current carrier. I had to contact my current carrier to get the PIN. Their stated time to perform this is 3-4 weeks, but ours was accomplished in 6 days. When the port is complete your old carrier will discontinue service. They kept us updated on progress via email. There is a charge by ooma for this service unless you have signed up for premier service. Leave your phones plugged into the old equipment until the port is complete then move the rj11 jack to the back of the telo. Hope this helps.

- Answer Yes. I have a Panasonic 3 handset DECT cordless phone system, and they work the same as when I had them through Comcast. Easy set-up. You don't need Ooma linx either which is what I had wondered. The DECT works the same as it did before - the handsets are all synced.

- Answer yes...hook up phone line to the back of your printer. and hook into Ooma....use splitter coming off of Ooma box to accommodate double phone lines. Dial *99 and then your 10 digit phone number.

- Answer Yes, I do. Set it up with your least favorite card. It is very difficult to cancel the service. The best way is by cancelling the card used to pay it. I am currently very satisfied with the service.

Questionso the Ooma device plugs into the router and the phone base plugs in to the Ooma... which means my phone needs to be by the router, correct? Right now the router and phone are in different rooms. Would I have to move my phone base to the computer room??

- Answer Yes. Although, if you have phone lines in the house from an old land line which is no longer connected, you could connect the Ooma to that jack. This is what we did to replace our VOIP phone service from ATT.

- Answer I have Ooma and I do not use the linx device. My setup consists of plugging the Ooma box into the router on one side and into my houses phone wiring. All of my wired phones work by plugging into the phone jacks around the house. To do this, you need to have a house that was wired with phone jacks. I previously had Spectrum cable TV and phone service. They connected their router into the houses phone network and I just plugged the Ooma box into that same location. If you didn’t previously have a cable phone then this would not necessarily work.
