  • QuestionHow well does this TV peform in a well-lit room? I REALLY want an OLED and have a 6 year old Samsung that does horrible in sunlight with dark scenes. I was lookg at the Samsung qn90a but was told that this set performs just fine in bright rooms/sunlight.

    Asked by jBurd3.

    • Answer Do not fall for this sales pitch! QLED is simply an LCD TV with LED backlighting. It is the same LCD screen technology that gets washed out in any sunlight, and although it may be brighter backlighting you will still have the same issue. OLED gives true black and does not have light bleed like LCD. It performs perfectly in direct sunlight or a dark room. I have the 77A80J in a very bright room and it is spectacular as compared to my last LCD TV with LED backlighting.

  • QuestionTwo questions: What is the precise (wattage and all) audio power of the A80J, especially compared to A90J OR the older A9G? How does the A80J TV compare with the older flagship, A9G, in terms of Picture Quality and sound? Thank you.

    Asked by Addict.

    • Answer Hi Addict, Thank you for your inquiry. Sony A90J is the successor series of A9G, and A80J is the successor of A8H. When it comes to the picture quality and enhanced features, the A80J is a more advanced TV compare to the A9G. The A80J is powered by the revolutionary Cognitive Processor XR while the A9G comes with X1 Ultimate. Cognitive Processor XR is able to deliver more realistic picture optimization as it cross-analyzes data, enhancing pictures in the same way that the human eye focuses on real-life color and depth. This TV has a unique ambient optimization technology with light and color sensors automatically adjusts picture and sound to your environment. The speaker system that is integrated with A90J and A9G are basically similar. They both came with Acoustic Surface Audio+ that is powered by 20W + 20W + 10W + 10W, while the A80J also features Acoustic Surface Audio+ that is powered by 10W + 10W + 10W for 55" and 65" class, and 20W + 20W + 10W on 77" class. Acoustic Surface Audio+ that is powered by 20W + 20W + 10W is quite a good speaker system that can delivers good surround sound for your favorite entertainment. Regards, Jess

  • QuestionWhat soundbar do you recommend with this tv? does a soundbar work well with the Acoustic Surface Audio? is it a noticeable improvement in sound by adding a sound bar? thank you

    Asked by Sound.

    • Answer Hi Sound, Thank you for inquiring about our BRAVIA XR A80J. The Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology in this TV is the best it has ever been with Dolby Atmos supported. However, if you want to get the full home theater experience, we recommend one of our soundbars like the upcoming HT-S40R with wireless rear speakers for the full 5.1 surround sound effect or our upcoming HT-A7000, or HT-A9 for even more immersion with Acoustic Center Sync. The A80J has the Acoustic Center Sync feature to pair with a compatible Sony audio product in conjunction with a full surround sound system. Acoustic Center Sync is compatible with Sony Soundbar HT-A7000 and Home Theater System HT-A9. When connected to a BRAVIA TV with Acoustic Center Sync using the supplied cable, both the soundbar and the TV become the center speaker in your home theater system. This enables sound to precisely match what’s on the screen for a truly immersive experience. Regards, Jess

The height of the TV stand when on a soundbar position is approximately 2 7/8 inch (72.3 mm) and the stand width will become approximately 40 7/8 (1,036 mm). • Questiondoes this TV have input for subwoofer

    Asked by baapio.

    • Answer Hi Baapio, Thanks for your inquiry. The A80J does not have a subwoofer output. A subwoofer cannot be connected to the TV directly. A recommended option is to add a soundbar that includes a wireless, powered subwoofer or have an amplifier or AV receiver that has a dedicated subwoofer connection to use with our A80J. To know more about the inputs/connections available for the TV, please check out the specifications of the product on our website below. https://electronics.sony.com/tv-video/televisions/all-tvs/p/xr77a80j Regards, Jess

  • QuestionDoes this have Bluetooth out to connect to Bluetooth headphones and if so what version

    Asked by HPPrinter.

    • Answer Hi Bluetooth, Great News! Yes, the A80J supports A2DP Bluetooth Profile. The TV has Bluetooth version 4.2; HID (mouse/keyboard connectivity)/HOGP (Low Energy device connectivity)/SPP(Serial Port Profile)/A2DP (stereo audio) 2/AVRCP (AV remote control). With supporting this A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can pair some wireless headphones, speakers, or soundbars to your Google TV through a Bluetooth connection, however, the devices must be compatible. An HDMI connection is required for soundbars without A2DP wireless audio support. I hope this helps! Jay

  • QuestionDoes the a80j have split screen abilities?? Can I watch something & cast of my phone at the same time or can I do 2 things at once on the tv?

    Asked by MustacheRide.

    • Answer Hi MustacheRide, Thanks for reaching out to us. We understand you would like to know if this TV can operate in split screen or watch two video sources at the same time. We're sorry, but the A80J does not have Picture-in-Picture (PIP), Picture & Picture (P&P), or Twin Picture (split screen) capability. These features aren't included with this TV model. However, similar functionality may be available through a third-party service or channel for sports, videos, etc. Check with your cable or satellite TV provider for options. You might want to consider checking our 2020 Android TV models except X750H series. These models support the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) function. You can continue to watch a program in a small window while operating the Home menu or an application on the TV by using your remote to select the PIP function. If Twin picture (split screen) is your priority, this is only available for our Android TVs with a “C” at the end of the model number. Please note that you can only watch a combination of inputs from the built-in tuner and an HDMI-connected device.
